something i adore about hadestown is that it still meant something, y'know what i mean? like okay, no orpheus's song did not convince hades to give up his empire. hades' love for persephone isn't enough to deconstruct the machine he's built and has convinced himself that he needs in order to protect what he has. but he let them go. he saw the love eurydice and orpheus had for one another and it convinced him to let them try. orpheus may have turned around but they still walked, they almost made it. doubt set it but they were right there. that's further than anyone else can say. nobody else had made it that far. who's to say someone else can't make it a few steps further? persephone is able to leave the underworld and go home again when she needs to. spring has come again, if we're lucky autumn just might too. will this change be permanent? we don't know. but it's something. it doesn't knock down the wall but it's one brick out of it. and that means something. it wasn't all for nothing. it's a crack in the wall. there's a reason we keep singing this old song.

#I finally finished it and... I have thoughts #not a lot of them are good #I liked some choices but others were just from bad to omg this is awful #the parts that I liked were mostly because of the acting and because I love this characters #the behind the scenes were a big part of the problem really #I know is an adaptation I get that some things are going to change but some changes I think weren't good ideas #for example Gabriella #I liked her character and I think I would be a little obsessed with her... if she wasn't Gabrielle #I wasn't married with the trans!Gabrielle hc but I think that taking away the gender non conforming aspect of her character wasn't good #like you could have make a similar storyline with an androgynous Gabi #but the scene where she tells him about not being a woman anymore of the cut hair scene would have been more impactful #if you didn't have her looking like cougar femme fatale #(not saying the actress wasn't hot because that corporative sexy look does something to me)#but I think it takes a lot of depth #same with taking away her subtle coldness indifference and tying Lestat to her until she gives him her jewels so he can run away with Nicky #her scenes were almost too caricatured. She was sexy evil seductive angry and cunning in a over the top way #when Gabrielle was so stoic and cold so you could never know what she was thinking #Lestat never knew how she felt about him until after he killed those wolves. Like she did things for him but was never directly warm #i wish they had talked about the reading part. We see her with a book but we don't get the impact of it #after learning she never taught anyone how to read just so she could scape them. Not even Lestat #those subtleties were missing all over the season #but this exchange was interesting and I love Lestat's reaction #the vampire lestat #amc interview with the vampire
