Not me distinctly remembering that DLDR was originally meant for GAY ships because homophobia in the 2000s was so bad that gay fics would get mass flamed if you didn’t put that disclaimer.

Used to be you'd join the biggest LiveJournal community for a fandom and you'd post your fic and if it was gay there would be people that not just actively ignored it but they'd rush to post literally anything to knock your post down far enough people 'wouldn't have to see it'. Then, if more than one person posted slash around the same time, within a few days the community would announce a new rule against slash [aka gay], because some people were complaining about you somewhere in locked posts with the mods. So then we would go make slash specific communities and the antis would try to join it to spy on us and talk shit and make lists of names to try to report, because they couldnt just let us do our own thing without 'bothering' them. Because we dared make things and read things that were gay, which they felt was an unforgivable crime for even existing. A lot of the best slash fic were on password-protected personal websites because no site would host it, so you had to get recs from other people and get in touch with the author and ask for the password and that they didn't think you were lying to gain access and get them in trouble.

And then, of course, strike-thru happened in 07.

Anon is from the UK and cheddar is the default cheese in most households there, but all of anon's American friends talk about mozzarella like that's the default, and their Turkish friend's default cheese is feta.
