We are heartbroken to share the tragic news of the death of Jonathan Joss—beloved actor, artist, and gay icon—who was fatally shot on June 1, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. He was 59 years old. Authorities are investigating the possibility of a hate crime.
Jonathan, of Comanche and White Mountain Apache heritage, rose to fame as the voice of John Redcorn on King of the Hill and appeared in acclaimed films such as The Magnificent Seven and True Grit. Beyond his screen work, he was a tireless advocate for Native sovereignty, queer visibility, and authentic representation.
In recent years, Jonathan came out publicly as a gay man and remained fiercely proud of both his Indigenous and queer identities. He is survived by his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, with whom he shared a life rooted in love, art, and community.
Jonathan’s legacy is one of courage, truth, and unapologetic presence. His impact on two-spirit and LGBTQ+ Indigenous youth—and on all of us who saw ourselves in his work—cannot be overstated.
We mourn his loss. We honor his voice. We demand justice. Rest in power, Jonathan Joss. You are remembered. You are loved.
Statement from Tristan Kern de Gonzales, husband of Jonathan Joss
"My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done.
Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic.
When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw.
While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired.
Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.
Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds. We picked Valentines Day. We were in the process of looking for a trailer and planning our future.
He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other.
I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved.
To everyone who supported him, his fans, his friends, know that he valued you deeply. He saw you as family.
My focus now is on protecting Jonathan's legacy and honoring the life we built together.
If your concern is how someone coped with trauma or how loudly they speak when recounting injustice and being ignored by authorities then you never truly cared about my husband.
Jonathan saved my life. l will carry that forward. I will protect what he built."
my brother got covid because he's a college professor and there's not much he can do to mitigate exposure when he has 200+ students per lecture. he's got a baby at home, so he does his best, but.
the governmental website for covid information is now propaganda. not a joke, not hyperbole, not an exaggeration: it's genuinely the definition of propaganda. this is biased misinformation determined to push a political stance. it is being hosted on a government server. it looks like something you'd find in a "top 10 weird internet conspiracy stories (and their origins)" youtube video.
my brother called me when he saw it. he had me type it into google. for a second i legitimately thought that i had typed something wrong. we have both taught college: we have both said "a .gov site is usually a reliable resource." i just stared at my phone for a long, long time.
i thought about how when i was a kid, conspiracy theories were mostly fun and a little spooky. unserious. i remember reading some long, complicated website about how avril lavigne is dead. how bigfoot is real. it used to be funny-and-a-joke.
over seven million people (globally) have died from covid. america has the highest death rate with over 1.2 million people.
the thing is - every time a person dies from something like a mass shooting or poverty or treatable illness - we are told don't make it political. we are told it's just something that can happen. we are told it's sad but what can you do!
the president of the united states is using a government website to try to erase the very-real deaths that he personally caused due to a complete mismanagement of the pandemic. the president of the united states is using a government server to host propaganda, undermine science and medicine, and encourage distrust amongst his followers.
nothing is going to happen. nobody's gonna, like, do anything about it. it's a thursday today, and we are just going to move on from this like we have been moving on from everything else.
yesterday my brother was outside walking his dog, mask included. a guy in a truck pulls up and shouts something about covid and whatever the fuck else. my brother has a good sense of humor, described it to me as enthusiastic! i hadn't ever been catcalled before, this was new and therefore thrilling! i do see why you hate it, though. like. i have actual covid, does he want me to cough on him?
my brother doesn't get extra time off work anymore, because the cdc practically doesn't exist. my brother said i'm not exposing 200 students to covid. his boss shrugged and said: who cares? they're going to get it eventually anyway. like it isn't a pandemic.
like it's just a fucking thursday, and who cares about it.
I don’t WANT a career. I want to cuddle and sleep and eat and read and create and love and be loved.
So uh, everyone’s also feeling totally normal about this, huh?
And then there's the other side. People on disability who can't have a career, live in pain every day, on limited income, no help, but have plenty of time to sleep. Capitalism goes both ways.
Here is the goggle doc on what to do! Even if you don’t need to live in New York, you can message the tourism board.
Do you live in New York state? Do you like being able to protect yourself from covid in a public space LEGALLY? Please do this.
If you do NOT live in New York state, please reblog this.
wtf new york

your intrusive thoughts disgust you for a reason. your intrusive thoughts scare you for a reason. your intrusive thoughts send you into a panic for a reason. your intrusive thoughts distress you for a reason. your intrusive thoughts upset you for a reason.
they're not things that you secretly think. they're not things that you secretly believe. they are the worst things your mind could conjure in order to make it difficult for you to get through the day.
And sometimes having intrusive thoughts might make you feel the need to perform an action or avoid something to lower your distress from these scary thoughts. This action or avoidance is called a compulsion and when you put it together this is the core of OCD. The best way to treat OCD is with Exposure Response Prevention or ERP. This is important information I wish I’d had before trying to find treatment.
Fuck I’m at a fencing tournament and literally a minute after I reblogged this my dad told me that he talked to the point people and I’m probably going to win a medal.

Tamora Pierce, I love you, I do, but why are your timelines so weird.
"Alan sent a letter to Imrah in 455 asking if he could do page training with him"
"Alan starts page training in 458. no one knows why (:"
"Elsren is 4 in Trickster's Choice and the next year he's 6 :)"
me, crying: what the fuck is happening
For those who'd like to see the website this is from, it's Pierce's official site! http://www.tamora-pierce.net/series-extra/tortall-timeline/
The Tortall timeline is the creation of all-time excellent individual @lisafer - detailed, thorough, and the most helpful fanfic resource ever!
I once asked Tamora Pierce about her timeline at a book signing. She said the mistakes are largely due to a type of math dyslexia she has that makes it hard for her to work with numbers.

I haven't been in the SPN fandom for many years but this shit made me laugh until I cried lmao

i feel like everyone’s forgotten some Covid basics so please let me remind you:
Your mask protects others more than it protects you
You can still spread covid even if you’re vaccinated or not showing any symptoms
The more this spreads around, the more mutated variants of the virus will appear and they WILL be stronger than the original
so like maybe stop being a little bitch and endangering others because you really, really needed to go out to dinner or get fucked up at a bar instead of in your home like a respectable person
[Tris] was just beginning to calm down when a shadow fell over her page. Looking up, she saw Polyam. "Now what?"
"Our children have better manners," the woman said tartly.
"Then go bother one of them," muttered Tris. She went back to her reading.

I’m going to go ahead and out myself as the PJ who wrote for atu2 for the last couple of years. It doesn’t matter at this point, right? Someone at U2’s official site posted an article about us yesterday and all of our names were listed. That made me feel quite blissful for a while! This little acknowledgement from the band is like dessert.
