We went to bed at 1:30am, we were asleep while the water rapidly rose. We woke up at 2:30am to water pouring into every log of the cabin. The waters outside were already waist- deep, while the water inside was rising to ankle level.
We pulled all the low level power plugs in the house because amazingly we still had power. I packed few and random clothes, food i thought was small enough to carry, a water jug, a one person pop-up tent, my cell phone and my cat.
When we tried to escape out of the door closest to the mountain, the water pressure was bearing on the door latch so tightly that the handle couldnt be turned. If it weren't for the screen door on the side of the house barely holding back the flood, we may have been trapped inside.
We climbed out and waded through the backyard in the dark through water that came up to our ribs, carrying my cat in his carrier.
Flashlights and lightning strikes lit the way across the backyard to the higher ground.
We spent the night on top of the quarry under a cluster of trees and in a flimsy tent with my cat. The tent wasnt waterproof so we endured the storm until dawn when it finally stopped raining.
When we assessed the flood at its peak, the water reached all but the top two logs of the cabin, inside and out. My car and my mom's car were mostly submerged and floating across the backyard. Large boulders, two 1-ton concrete blocks, and a scaffolding/platform structure near the front ditch had toppled over with the strength of the current.
As the floodwaters receded, one of my mom's vehicles was sunk halfway into the pond at the edge of the property.
We are thankful to have made it out in time, and thankful to our incredible neighbors who are providing us food and lodging at this time.
character that got chewed up and spat back out by their trauma versus someone who pushes them a little too far and is about to find out that the horrors also gave your guy teeth of their own. animal fear is sometimes whimpering and sometimes rabid.
making up characters is so fun because you can be like “this is johnson he came from my mind” and all your friends will go “yippe!!! horray!!! we love johnson!!!”
Due to my weird childhood and my weird brain, I have this very unhelpful compulsion to conceal Everything I do from Everyone. I Cannot be observed performing any action, no matter how mundane. My nervous system is convinced I'm gonna, like, Get In Trouble for eating food at dinnertime or sleeping in my bed at bedtime.
I've taken to asking myself, "Okay does this task actually require subterfuge or am I stealing a balloon on Free Balloon Day"
So there was just an entire booth full of wind chimes for sale at mountain fair. It started to get a little windy and they all went off at once. It was so pretty.
It's scary to be transgender in the world right now but if you're transgender I love you and we have to stick together and keep fighting and keep living and keep loving
