“Are you angry? You look angry. I know you are.” No? I am not? I am pretty fucking blank, what about me is making you think I am angry. Irritating. This happens far too much. I think I know what I’m experiencing more than you do. Thanks.
It's really something seeing people who aren't cluster A or schizospec discuss anhedonia. Because they always talk about how horrible it is, and how it makes life borderline not worth living, but there's always this emphasis that it's temporary.
"Anhedonia is the worst thing I've ever experienced, but don't worry! You can just get your meds changed and it'll go away! You'll be enjoying everything again in no time!"
"I felt like this before I got help for my depression. Don't worry guys, therapy can totally fix this!"
"This is how everyone feels before starting HRT lol. If you think you have this you should start questioning your gender."
I don't understand how you can talk at length about how serious a particular symptom is, but then turn around and treat it like it's this easily fixable symptom that no-one will have to deal with forever.
Chronic anhedonia is a thing. Some of us will spend most of, if not the rest of our lives like this. For some of us, it's not a side-effect of medication, or treatable depression, or being closeted. It's engrained into how our brain works. That reality deserves to be acknowledged too.

i know a lot of people don’t believe in the concept of “recovery” inside the schizoid disorder itself but hear me out. Recovery doesnt have to mean that you’re working towards “removing” symptoms, it’s more about being able to live with them. Maybe the right word wouldn’t be recovery but i don’t know any other word that would fit. Anyways to me the most important part of this recovery process was accepting that there’s nothing wrong with being outside the norm, not in a “it’s ok to be weird 😜” way, more in a “there’s actually no punishment for not forming a family or having friends”. And yes you may say there’s a societal punishment but there’s actually a societal punishment for almost all human behaviors, whether you notice it or not; and anyways, if you’re schizoid you probably have the “ability” to at least slightly remove yourself from what society wants so take that as an advantage and decide that you don’t care anymore. It’s easier said than done obviously but once i treated this issue in therapy i started being much more comfortable and accepted that the way i am is not as wrong as i always thought it was. I am ok
Having friends is embarrassing, dating is embarrassing, crying is embarrassing, being mad is embarrassing, being happy is embarrassing, expressing any emotion ever is embarrassing
It's pathetic how some people think all friendless aloof loners are either "mysterious", "mysterious wannabes", "weirdos", or "dangerous". ("Shy" too if you're in a country where closed-off people are called "shy" whether it's an actual shy person or a total misanthropic hermit)
"Normal social people" act like we're all either some shiny objects that they should befriend or date; dangerous because they "can't know your intentions if you don't talk" to them; or just a weirdo if they understand you're not dangerous but you're not attractive to them either.
We're all aliens to them, whether you're disordered or no.
