Eddie slid down, leaning his head against the back of the padded bench, waiting for Steve to come back with more drinks. He was pleasantly warm and happy, from the beers and the surprise company.
It was truly serendipitous, running into Steve on Eddie's first night out in the city after getting all his boxes and furniture moved into his new place. Like fate.
Not that he believed in fate, but if he did, well, maybe Steve's his. Oh, he's definitely more tipsy than he thought if he's thinking that. He rubbed his eyes with his palms,He hadn't seen the guy in nearly a decade, a good night of talking and laughing doesn't equal soulmates.
Besides, he's not the same naive guy he was at 23, he knows what he wants, needs, in a relationship now. And who knows if Steve can be that for him... though, he's starting to hope he could be.
Someone sat down across from him. He smiled, opening his eyes, and promptly scowled. It wasn't Steve. It was some young blonde guy with an arm already draped across the back of the bench, charming smile stretched across his face.
Eddie raised an eyebrow.
"You looked bored," the guy said, pushing a shot across the table and raising his own. "Thought you might actually want to have some fun."
Eddie flicked his eyes down at the drink and back up at the guy, speaking around a smirk. "Oh, honey, you couldn't even conceive of the kind of fun I want to have."
The guy's eyebrows went up, surprised Eddie came out of the gate so aggressive. His expression shifted, a slow smirk grew and his eyes went dark and hooded.
He opened his mouth, to say something smarmy no doubt, and a tray of shots slid onto the table, pushing the guy's single shot aside. He scooped it out of the way, glaring upwards.
Eddie looked up and grinned seeing it was Steve. Steve with a steely look in his eyes, jaw firm, and lips quirked in silent amusement, like he couldn't believe the gall of the kid. And other than the brief look at the guy when he sat down the drinks, his gaze was for Eddie alone.
The look lit Eddie up, melting his reservations that Steve wouldn't be able give him what he needed. Eddie wanted to slip his fingers into his short beard and pull his mouth to his.
Steve flicked his fingers, indicating Eddie should scoot over. Eddie scooted and Steve slid in next to him, twisting on the seat to face Eddie. He pushed his arm along the back of the bench, forearm resting warm against Eddie's neck.
Eddie twisted to match him, his knee hooking over Steve's, his hand settling on the bench between their hips. He leaned heavier into the back of the booth under his shoulder. From his position, it felt like Steve was taller than him, like Eddie was cacooned within the space of his body.
Steve set one of the shots in front of Eddie and picked up another for himself. Eddie held his up for Steve to clink.
He paused, gaze barely shifting to their audience before looking hard at Eddie. "To you, sweetheart, for sitting here and waiting for me so well."
Oh. What a marvelous turn of events. Though, if it was fate, which he still wan't sure he believed in, but if he did, then of course Steve would be perfect.
Eddie's breath caught as his belly clenched, heat spread along his cheeks. He smiled sweetly up at Steve as they clinked their glasses, tapped the table, and tossed the shots back, Eddie in a single gulp and Steve letting it slide down as he watched Eddie.
Eddie kept his eyes locked with Steve's as he flipped the shot glass, plonking it back on the tray, and opened his mouth, letting his tongue loll out.
Steve's eye darkened. He pushed his hand through Eddie's curls to his scalp and made a fist.
Gripping his hair, Steve tipped Eddie's head back. Eddie panted, body going lax. Steve looked at him like he was discovering him, wonder and heat warring in his heavy gaze. "Fuck, baby. You really just wanna be my good boy, huh?
Eddie gasped and tried to nuzzle into the hand holding him in place. "Please, Steve. Wanna-"
"Yeah? What do you want, baby? Gotta tell me so I can give it to you."
Eddie whined, squirming in place, hand pressing hard into the seat. "Want you to take me home. Please, Steve. Think you're perfect and wanna see if we could be perfect together forever. Please."
Steve smiled, radiant and lovely, eyes all crinkley and happy. His fist loosened so he was just holding the back of Eddie head. He leaned in, brushing his nose along Eddie's, and spoke into his mouth. "I can do that."
The last thing Eddie saw before Steve gave him his last, and most perfect, first kiss of his life was the blonde guy storming away with their tray of shots.
