Your post about how the Roger pirates treated Shanks and Buggy, made me think of au about when Shanks went to meet his birth family for his mission . What if yeah they were terrible people. But his brother and father(mainly his brother from what little we saw) genuinely treated him like family. It adds some angst possibilities because they are only acting like that towards him because hes blood. Adds some intriguing angst for Shanks to have to deal with. Especially with his twin brother who he finds out genuinely loves and worries about him.
I don't really like Garling all that much and can not see him acting like a genuine father in any capacity. To me, it always felt like he saw Shanks and Shamrock as a means to an end, rather than his children.
Even if he tried to pretend to be a 'caring father', I think Shanks would be able to see through it right away. The only thing that would be truthful is the pride he takes in Shank's strength, because he sees it as an extension of himself. Garling is the kind of man who thinks his kids aren't their own people, but are just extensions of him.
Shamrock is a much more confusing case. He is absolutely detestable in a lot of aspects. Despite this, he does genuinely care for Shanks. He seemed concerned for his well-being in the recent chapter, and talks about him disappointed rather than disgust or simple anger. If there was any aspect that made Shanks hesitate, it would be Shamrock.
In fact, he sometimes thinks about what would've happened if they had actually grown up together. Maybe on the Oro-Jackson, things could've worked out differently.
But Shanks would think that all their love is superfecial. It's only borne out of blood-relation rather than actually liking him as a person.
There are days where he feels angry at everyone, and it kills him to try and hide it. It takes everything in him to not snap at Shamrock whenever he asks about how he's feeling.
There are others where he's asking himself if its worth it. And if he what he wants really ever mattered. He thinks about whether this is what Roger truly meant for him. He wonders about hat exactly pushes Buggy away from him and if he could've changed anything. He just thinks a lot about unanswered questions those days.
Then there are the days where he just...misses. He misses his childhood, he misses Roger, he misses Rayleigh and Gaban and the other. He misses Buggy. He just misses when everything felt simple.
I would imagine there would be moments where he would compare his life on the Oro Jackson and realises just how much he misses his old life.
Just think about Shanks drowning in his memories, and having to mourn the fact that he'll never get back those days again. And the future he had planned will never come true, because that's not his 'destiny'.
He's sitting in a room, angry tears rolling down his face, as he's just cursing the blood that runs through his veins, the destiny that the stars have bestowed on him.
