Character appreciation: Kobayashi

It’s been quite some time since I posed something or even visited Tumblr in general due to private matters. I am back now and I think I’ll try to post more often because I really did miss this. 

In the spotlight: Kobayashi from Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon

Why is she my favourite Kobayashi-san chi no Maid Dragon character?

I personally think all the characters are lovable and the moe-ness of all of them is brought to the public beautifully. Kanna is adorable, Tohru has amazing dedication, Fafnir is Fafnir, … It’s hard to choose one, only one, character that deserved that little bit extra attention. I personally think that’s Kobayashi herself.

Why Kobayashi? Well, it’s clear to see that she’s an average woman: she works hard to get far enough in life and sometime likes to forget everything by drinking together with her buddy. She has many flaws and weird fetishes but that’s what makes her so human and in an anime about dragons, that is exactly what we need.

Another thing about her is how she’s way more mysterious than most people would think. It’s clear that things were so-so between her and her family and we never really got many details on that (hoping on that in a possible season 2). Also the fact that there’s alot of romantic tension between Tohru and her makes almost the entire fandom wonder if their lesbian ship is canon or not. Will we ever find out? Who knows! I absolutely love Kobayashi for being such a good care-taker, for being such a lovable and accepting human being and for standing up for Tohru at the end. She’s amazing.

However, for Bell Cranel, fame and riches are secondary to what he wants to find the most: girls. He soon finds out though, that anything can happen in Dungeon, and winds up being the damsel in distress instead!

My review: 

I’ve watched this with my boyfriend a while ago. Having seen the amount of waifu material, the fact that it’s with swords and thinking that it would be extremely badass, we were very convinced to watch it. 

When we started the series we were loving it. The protagonists were lovable and we just adored the relationship between Bell and Hestia. As they kept adding more lovable characters (maids, elfs, nekos, badass swordfighters,...) we couldn’t stop watching it. The characters aside, we couldn’t agree more on how the plot was fun too. In the beginning. 

After a while, about halfway the series we didn’t feel like bingewatching anymore. The characters were still as perfect as ever but honestly it felt as if the storyline had dissapeared into the air. At some point I had no clue what they were talking about anymore and I swore that if one more character appeared I would punch someone’s face. 

To bring back some positivity to this review: The animation was very nice in my opinion and I didn’t dislike the sounds. The opening was very catchy and cute but at the end of the series I preferred watching the opening rather than the anime itself. But that’s okay, I can clearly see that there was enough effort put into Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?. 

It’s just not the most exciting anime to watch, but others may think differently. Do you like cute anime girls, fantasy, anime stereotypes and fighting? Then maybe this anime is something for you.

Why is he my favourite 91 Days character? 

I must say, he was standing close to Avilio. When I started watching this series I was all over Avilio, mainly because of his looks and his mysterious vibe. But after a few episodes, I’ve come to love Corteo and everytime he got screentime, I was satisfied. In my opinion he had the looks I’d look for in such an anime: innocent, with a nice haircut and can’t forget the glasses! (I am a glasses-fangirl, please join me, let’s start a fanclub.) Aside from his adorable appearance, there is his personality which is even better. He’s kindhearted and if you’re close to him then you can count on his trust. He would feel terrible betraying a friend and that makes it obvious why he sees Avilio as a family member of his. I have to say, I cried when he died. I did. Really. I was heartbroken and wondering how they could have let such a cute face die. But it’s anime, so we got to live with it. Sighs. Overall, I love him and I’m glad he had a big role in 91 Days.

Review on Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid

Quick introduction:  Miss Kobayashi is your average office worker who lives a boring life, alone in her small apartment–until she saves the life of a female dragon in distress. The dragon, named Tohru, has the ability to magically transform into an adorable human girl (albeit with horns and a long tail!), who will do anything to pay off her debt of gratitude, whether Miss Kobayashi likes it or not. With a very persistent and amorous dragon as a roommate, nothing comes easy, and Miss Kobayashi's normal life is about to go off the deep end!

My review: 

To be real with you guys, this anime had already entered my top 10 anime list before it finished airing. The love I have for Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is so big that I’ll probably end up showing this to my kids later. We start off with what you can see in the trailer (see down below). Miss Kobayashi being relatable to many adults and even many students these days, she’s stressed out, does not have a well-balanced social life and the only time she actually has fun is when she goes out to drink. Meeting Tohru and accepting her as maid gives her life a twist that will change her forever. The relationship between Tohru and Kobayashi is complicated. Some people recognize a hate-relationship while others label them as straight-up lesbians (maybe not so straight-up). Personally, I like the option of a romantic relationship; but not to hunger my yuri-loving heart, I see them as a close family. The appearance of Kanna does make that look realistic, together with the other dragons that appear,one by one.

A slice of life with dragons. It’s something many people can’t see be put into a good, nice anime. I was one of those people, stress on was. After episode 1 I couldn’t stop watching. The characters were lovable and I was very curious to how the relationship between Tohru and Kobayashi would develop. Never had I thought that the side-characters would mean as much to be as the main trio, consisting of a hardworking lesbian(?), a maid dragon and a loli gothic lolita dragon. 

I have to say, there’s one thing that dissapointed me. (If you don’t want certain spoilers about the characters themselves, I suggest you don’t read this part.) So the dissapointment to me is Elma (the unicorn dragon, if you don’t know who I’m talking about). Not that she isn’t how I expected, not at all. I love her personality, especially her food-lover trait. Amazing, can totally relate. No. It’s that she got put into the series way too late for some fans to actually like her enough. She’s super cute and totally relatable, but she just seems like a minor character to me and that is kind of sad. If people ask about Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, there’s a big chance I’ll tell them about Kobayashi herself, Tohru, Kanna, Fafnir, Lucoa and even Saikawa and Takiya and Shouta. But the chance I’d forget to mention Elma is way too big. She’s also one of the dragons, so I would have loved to get to know her better...

Overall, this anime was amazing and I guess it’s also family-appropriate to watch. The characters are lovable and I need a second season on this. I NEED IT.

“Daughter of Evil” Musical Announced! 

A part of the popular Vocaloid series “Story of Evil” will be adapted into a musical titled “Daughter of Evil”! It’s not known how much of the plot will be explored from the Evil series, but it will definitely be a must-see for fans! 

About the Musical: 

The Aku no Musume Musical will be performed at Auru Spot, East Ikebukuro in Tokyo on the dates of June 4th-11th. Tokunaga Hidekatsu will direct and do the screenplay. Here’s the main cast:

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - UBreview

Grandeur and intricacy within a tried-and-true Zelda adventure by Samuel Wiener - Mar. 18, 2017

We all know the story of how this legend was born: a young, naive Shigeru Miyamoto explores his local wilderness, enthralled with the rush of adventure, only to capture that feeling and release it into toy stores years later. It’s an anecdote told every console generation, but now is the first time in years we can truly reflect on it.

Nintendo has met their elevator pitch exactly; an open-world, modernized Zelda, designed around the mystery, discovery, and reward cycle of the NES days. Not only does Nintendo deliver on this concept, but they transfer that experience into one of the most well-crafted open-worlds of the past decade. Breath of the Wild focuses on the freedom of discovery, of sidetracking rather than the freedom of approaching objectives. This is the note big Western companies have been trying to hit for years, emphasizing how open the methods of a linear mission are, never taking advantage of the space they encompass. Nintendo takes the time to ask “why is this place so big?” and scatters answers at every corner.

What enhances the freedom the player has in Hyrule the most is the unhindered climbing ability. Any slanted surface in the overworld can be mounted and scaled, how far depending on your stamina meter. Never have we seen a game give this much potential for exploration to the player; I was constantly finding treasures above cliffs, remembering just in that moment that I could reach it.

Of course, discovery needs reward, and in Breath of the Wild, the reward is discovery itself. When travelling on-foot, the player spots NPCs, their napsacks and village clothes shone by the dull light of hanging lanterns. Most of the time, they’ll strike up some small talk, offer items to buy or open up for trade. Occasionally, the NPC will stop you themselves, offering a recruitment into the “Yiga Clan.” Accept or deny, the NPC poofs into a Yiga Clan member, and right there, a swift duel begins. Strings are played over the battle, reminiscent of Mononoke. The Yiga Clan member zig-zags in smoke clouds, a crossbow drawn. The player sneaks in hits before their arrows strike. Victory! a drop of rupees and fruit for the player.

Something like this—a random encounter, teasing hidden story beats with a handsome reward—would be too daring by Zelda’s standards ten, even five years ago. Secret events in a Zelda game are nothing new, of course, but presenting them as such a non-sequitur, a mere one of hundreds that can manifest at even the plainest of grasslands is only a small part of Breath of the Wild’s addicting mystery.

This is Nintendo taking a risk for the first time in years, dipping their toes into contemporary design. There’s dozens of Western RPG/open-world elements thrown into the Zelda formula but it all ties together. Breath of the Wild is catching Nintendo up with the times, giving an imaginative spin to every aspect just enough to know what you’re playing. Climbing, cooking, buying, selling, mining, horse riding, using bombs and runes on the overworld…so much is available to the player, providing one of the truest definitions of the term “sandbox.” But with such an ambitious leap forward, there’s bound to be a couple missteps.

I understand why weapon durability is included, but I’m still disappointed that Nintendo didn’t get the memo during their research on Western game design: weapon durability is not good. Weapon durability has (practically) never been good, and it is not good now. Weapon usage and how it’s designed kind of make up for durability; any weapon that an enemy holds can drop and be equipped by the player, but there’s a nagging feeling the player receives whenever they’re alerted their weapon is going to be destroyed in ten more hits. This is something that could be solved by a simple patch, though, so I digress.

It’s clear to see that Nintendo aimed for a story that achieved the epicness and scale of the world they’ve built, but it feels a bit flat. The premise is interesting at least; the player goes through the aftermath of a Zelda game that never was, where Ganon actually won. It’s a tale related through hit-and-miss voicework and charming, instantly likeable characters that just don’t flesh out enough. I won’t get into spoilers, but the games end feels a bit flat as well. The player opens a gorgeous picture book and Breath of the Wild is forced to weakly shut it before any real words escape.

A slightly hollowed story is little in the face of what Breath of the Wild delivers, because the depth, mystery and genuine adventure the player experiences in this painterly vision of what a kingdom once was speaks a million words.

Review on Breath of the Wild and Nintendo Switch

This is my review on the Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game. Now, to be real I am everything but a professional gamer so note that I won’t be going into detail, but only what I’ve experienced and what I thought of it.

I got the oppertunity to use the Nintendo Switch at The Lab Game Hall. If I had to figure all the buttons out alone, it would’ve been an exciting adventure. But I didn’t have hours to get used to everything so my boyfriend and the people who work there or go there alot were kind enough to help me out. 

Finally starting to play, I must say that the controller was comfortable to hold and the buttons were easy to get used to. The concept felt alot like a PSP, but furthermore was a fun idea for actual gamers. I must say, I would love to buy it but I’m afraid I’d get addicted to it. 

Now onto the Legend of Zelda game: Breath of the Wild. Never have I even played a LoZ game, even though I really wanted to. I was thus very happy to find out I could finally make my childhood-gaming dreams become reality. 

I think we shouldn’t argue about this: it is beautiful. I love the graphics alot and having seen comparision videos of LoZ games over the past years, it has improved so much. The scenery is wonderfully done and I just wished I could be the one standing there. The game itself is a challenge, even if you’re not far into it. But even though it’s a challenge, you just want to keep on going even if it gets a little bit harder. In all honestly, there weren’t enough negative things to actually mention on here; an amateur gamer will barely notice any mistakes. 

Now this was a short review but enough to say that I loved it and that I recommend it to everyone who likes a bit of a challenge and an amazing game in general.

Spring 2017 Anime Season: What Will I Be Watching?

Spring 2017: What will I be watching?

I’ve heard a lot of negativity already concerning the spring 2017 anime. In my opinion, we’ve had worse seasons and there are plenty of anime I’m interested in for this Spring. On this list, you’ll find all the anime I’ll be giving a shot. This can either be while it’s still airing, but it’s also possible that I’ll keep some of the series until it has finished. I can’t exclude that I will drop some anime, which happens alot, because I am not going to continue my time on anime that make me want to choke, you feel me? Now onto the list! 

1. Shingeki no Kyojin: 2nd season (Alt: Attack on Titan)

Quick introduction: !!! SPOILERS !!!  Eren Jaeger swore to wipe out every last Titan, but in a battle for his life he wound up becoming the thing he hates most. With his new powers, he fights for humanity's freedom facing the monsters that threaten his home. After a bittersweet victory against the Female Titan, Eren finds no time to rest—a horde of Titans is approaching Wall Rose and the battle for humanity continues!

My expectations: Being a huge Shingeki no Kyojin fan, I am super excited for the second season. And after all the delays, it must be perfect, right? Now, without spoiling anything, I’m up to date with the manga so I know what is going to happen and I also know that (from seeing the trailer) some of the non-mangareaders will be confused from time to time. Some of the scenes we got introduced to were later chapters in the manga. But this isn’t necessairly a terrible thing: the first few chapters after the ending of season 1 in the anime were a little bit boring from time to time. But I must say, after the boring part it got so badass that I just couldn’t wait until I could read the monthly updates of SnK. The quicker to the badass parts, the more will become clear. I must say, if you haven’t watched Shingeki no Kyojin, like, ever...please give it a shot. It is pretty amazing.

2. Sekaisuru Kado (Alt: Kado: The Right Answer)

Quick introduction:  Kojiro Shindo. Cabinet Office Director-General for Policy Planning, is at Haneda Airport for a business trip. While the plane is on the runway, a giant structure suddenly appears out of thin air. The plane carrying Shindo and 251 passengers is taken undamaged inside the giant structure. After everyone disembarks, a man who looks like an ordinary human being shows up. He assures those rom the plane that they're not in any danger. Shindo asks him to identify himself and explain the situation. Then the outside of the structure is displayed on a large screen, and at the same time, every passenger's cell phone starts ringing all at once. On each cell phone screen is a message from this man, to every one of Japan's citizens: "I, Yaha-kui zaShunina, hereby notify you that I am going to intervene in Japan's internal affairs."What is this young man's goal? And will Shindo manage to become an intermediary between Japan and the Anisotorons...?

My expectations: I’m the kind of person to distant myself from everything that has any link to the word “politics”, even in anime. But for some reason I thought the concept of this policital anime sounded interesting to me. Especially since it is combined with fantasy. After watching the trailer I knew it would be a waste not to at least give this a chance, even though it isn’t my favourite genre. The artstyle looks cool and I’d love to know more about the man who looks like an ordinary human. It also looks like something more original and fresh that won’t have any troubles to distant itself from the anime series and genres that have lost their unoriginality. 

3. Roku de Nashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records

Quick introduction: Glenn is a part-time teacher at a magic school who is inclined to write "self-study" on the blackboard and then take a nap. One of his students, Sistine, gets angry and challenges him to a duel and he is easily defeated. However, when a terrible incident threatens the school, Glenn shows intense dedication to protecting his students.

My expectations: To be completely fair, I was not convinced to watch this after reading the intro and watching the trailer. As cool it may be looking, I didn’t think that the concept would be all that spectacular. However, with my undying love for Great Teacher Onizuka, I just could not skip this one merely because I live for anime teacher who stand up for their students; it’s so heartwarming. So even after all the doubts I had, I will definitely wait and see if this will be a fun thing to watch or not.

4. Renai Boukun (Alt: The Very Lovely Tyrant of Love)

Quick introduction: Guri is an angel with a mysterious item that turns any two people who kiss into a couple. She appears before a high school boy named Seiji Aino. However, there is a yandere high school girl named Akane who loves Seiji.

My expectations: Okay, I was so turnt off by this concept. An angel that turns 2 people who kiss into a couple? No, just no. Anime like this turn me off so much. It looks like such a stereotypical series that I knew wasn’t going to be good. And yet it ended up on my list, how weird. Now, we can always use some lighter subjects in anime from now and then, and since there’s a yandere I knew it would give me some great laughs throughout the series. Not to mention that the characters look super cute and lovable. 

5. Fukumenkei Noise (Alt: Anonymous Noise)

Studio: Brain’s Bade.

Quick introduction: A girl who loves to sing, Nino Arisugawa experiences her first heart wrenching goodbye when her beloved childhood friend, Momo, moves away. And after Nino befriends Yuzu, a music composer, she experiences another sad parting! With music as their common ground and only outlet, how will unrequited love play out? Since both boys promised Nino that they will find her one day through her singing, she holds on to that hope and continues to reach out with her voice. Now in high school, Nino serendipitously reunites with Yuzu, but she yearns to see Momo again…

My expectations: Two boys = every mainstream teenage romance movie ever (Twilight...).  But hey, it looks promising so why not leave the thought of it totally failing behind? Besides, there is music and musical anime always seems to be a fun thing to watch. The characters looks interesting and I hope we get to see alot of their backstories.

6. Eromanga Sensei

Quick introduction:  Masamune Izumi is a light novel author in high school. His artist, known only as "Eromanga Sensei" is reliable but Masamune has never met him and assumes he's just a perverted otaku. Masamune's little sister is Sagiri, a shut-in girl who hasn't left her room for an entire year. She even forces her brother to make and bring her meals when she stomps the floor. Masamune wants his sister to leave her room, because the two of them are each other's only family. One day Masamune discovers that Eromanga Sensei and Sagiri are one in the same. Further chaos erupts between the siblings when a beautiful, female, best-selling shoujo manga creator becomes their rival.

My expectations: Anime that revolves around the anime/ manga industry, I like that. Although this probably won’t be all that serious, I still think this will be worth it. I’m expecting lots of laughs and awkward incent-situations between the siblings (even though I’m hoping they will leave those things out of this anime). It makes it even more interesting having a rival, and I hope I won’t have any regrets watching this.

7. Alice to Zouroku

Quick introduction:  A group of young girls possess a mysterious power known as "Alice's Dream," which gives them the ability to turn their thoughts into reality. Detained and experimented upon, these youths are locked away in secret until one of them manages to escape. Her name is Sana—a girl with the power to ignore the very laws of physics. When this willful powerhouse crosses paths with a stubborn old man named Zouroku, his carefully-ordered life will never be the same again.

My expectations: Honestly, this looks like a really cute anime. I’m hoping to see their relationship develop into a loving grandfather-grandchild relationship. The concept looks promising and I’m sure it’ll eventually be a heartwarming story without it being boring. And I must say, the blonde girl on the cover looks adorable in her pink lolita dress and her pigtails! I think this might be one of my favourite anime this season but we’ll see about that later.

8. Clockwork Planet

Quick introduction:  Naoto's a high school dropout and brilliant amateur tinkerer. He lives in a world that has been so over-exploited that the entire surface has become one vast machine. When a box crashes into his home containing a female automaton, it's a harbinger of change that will rock the entire globe, and give Naoto his chance to be a hero.

My expectations: I have always kind of been interested in sciencefiction, but sci fi anime with robots and androids? I don’t think I’ve ever watched something where that is an actual important feature. But I think this will be the right moment to give the typical sci fi anime a shot and watch Clockwork Planet. The artstyle looks promising and I can already tell that I’ll be madly in love with many of the characters. In my opinion, this will be one of the most promising anime of the entire spring season. 

9. Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel TV

Quick introduction:  In the story, two third-year middle school girls fight evil as Twin Angels under orders from a hedgehog named Miruku-chan. The girls disagree, but as they work together, they become more friendly little by little.

My expectations: Oh dear where do I start? I am totally not familiar with magical anime and especially not with magical girls. I have never gotten into a magical girl/ boy anime nor did I even start one. So why not now? It’s pretty risky since I am starting with a new one that could end up being terrible and kill my view on magical anime, but let’s leave that aside. The characters look typical, cute and with a clear personality; yet I’ll probably love them to bits. This clearly isn’t an anime  that’s all that serious, the enemies are way too cute to hate so I guess I’ll show lots of love for everyone in this show. Sighs. Overall, I’m excited to start my first magical girl anime.

10. Sakurada Reset

Quick introduction:  The story is set in a town called Sakurada, where almost half the population possess some form of special powers. Two high school students, Kei Asai has the ability to perfectly remember anything he sees and hears, while Misora Haruki can turn back or "reset" time for a maximum of three days. Both students are members of their school's "Service Club," which their town's administration bureau uses to observe people with powers and protect the peace. By using their powers together (Kei can remember things even when time has been reset), they solve cases for the club. Kei learns of the "MacGuffin" stone, which looks like a worthless black stone, but in reality will turn out to be the stone upon which the existence of Sakurada will hinge on.

My expectations: I’m always sceptical about anime with students having superpowers. At first I thought this anime would only have a few people who have superpowers, which would make it more interesting to see who has it too and what will happen next. Needless to say I was a little bit dissapointed to find out that wasn’t the case. Still that did not hold me back from skipping out on my tenth anime on this list since it has a really interesting concept. The characters looks somewhat boring but there’s still hope for a vivid personality with each one of them.

Tsunglasses review of Boku no Pico

They say the best things come in threes: The Godfather, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and I can safely add Boku no Pico to that list of masterpieces. Never in my life have I ever been happy or at least I thought I knew what happiness was but I was a delusional fool.

If I was to deconstruct the Boku no Pico trilogy it could possibly take me multiple lifetimes, nay I’d maybe say it’d take me eons but somehow I think I can do this in a single tumblr text post because I am a masterful anime reviewer who gets all the ladies because that’s what girls want.

I think I should start with the titular character of the show which is Pico. One could simply describe his character arc as urbain. It literally goes from a 1/10 to a 10/10 by using strong imagery to force people’s memories to recollect on the series they’ve watched. Simply ask anyone who has watched Boku no Pico what Ice-Cream means to them now but be careful as they might simply break down into tears from the thought alone.

The other characters are similarly themed but I’m keeping this brief.

If I could summarise the plot into a short sentence I would but its simply not possible. Never in an anime have I seen the Tokyo Tower used in such a creative way and promoting LGBT ideals in a masterful way that made me think.

The soundwork in this is amazing. When any character talks its like butter is melting in my ear  (or maybe ice-cream amitrite?) and the OST? Simply fantastic.

10/10 he does get covered in cum (he even gets cum on the ceiling which is simply impressive).
