Queer Owned Bookstore Valentine's Haul!!
• Heartstopper Volume 2
Slowly building my personal collection of Alice Oseman's books!
• Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree
A queer high fantasy day in the life cozy vibes! I cannot wait to read this one, it's been on my TBR ever since I heard about it and I HAD to pick it up!
• The Companion by E E Ottoman
Exerpt from Content Notes: "The book depicts a polyamorous relationship between two transgender women and one transgender man. Due to the historical seeing however, this is not the language these characters use for themselves." This book is set in 1948 New York.
I have not been able to find this book in ANY library system where I live so when I saw it I immediately added it too my stack!
I also HAD to pick up some pins to wear at work, and a new bumpersticker for my car! I got 3 pins, one says "Actually Autistic" one says, "Trans Inclusive Feminism Always" and the last says "LGBT books save lives"
This haul says so much about me as a person and I love it. Can't wait to go back to this bookstore!
Also they were giving out free Heartstopper Valentine's at the checkout and my partner gave me one 🥰🥰🥰
Love!!! Support your local queer owned businesses!! I feel way less guilty spending money when I know its going back to an inclusive space that helps so many people
• These Fleeting Shadows by Kate Alice Marshall
☆☆☆☆
You know when you're so used to being queerbated you learn how to pretend your main character is queer and then it turns out they actually are canonically queer and the author wasn't tricking you the whole time?? I'm so glad that happened in this book.
It's a new take on the classic "distant relative shockingly inherits entire estate and the rest of the family is beside themselves" with a mysterious twist I *promise* you you won't see coming. A perfectly twisted mystery that will have you spiraling all the way to its end!
The last book I read in 2022 was volume 1 of Heartstopper and the first book I read in 2023 was volume 2! Then I immediately read 3 and 4 and The Heartstopper Yearbook!
Really a great way to start out my reading journey of 2023!
Graphic novels absolutely count as reading no matter what you hear anyone say! And they're also a great way to get out of a reading slump because I feel like I'm actually finishing something and it inspires me to pick up some of my thicker "currently reading" books that I've left sitting by my bed for weeks on end
I'm going to start reviewing books here, but if you want you can also follow me on Story Graph at itsapollo
Can't wait til this weekend when I'll finally have time to head to Barns and Nobles and pick up Alice Oseman's newly released hardcover of Nick and Charlie a Heartstopper Novella!!! (And probably also any of her other books I haven't read yet and the Heartstopper coloring book)
Happy Reading!
Time for a year of not just self love but self loyalty
Trusting myself more that I do know what's best for me
And my main more general new years resolutions:
• more reading and writing
• less doom scrolling
