I've been watching a bunch of sport lately, and I am so deeply taken by the ease by which these athletes handle their gear. There's Kaori Sakamoto gliding on the rink at blinding speed, making sharp turns and movements like it's nothing. There's a montage of Lamine Yamal dribbling so spectacularly it looks like he's dancing, his familiarity with football very apparent. There's cricketers I've been marveling at who make decisions on where and how to swing their bats in the split second the ball is airborne, and they can do that because they've been facing incoming balls half their lives.
And I think, this is the ease born of years and years of practice. It's the same ease I see in the artist I watch on YouTube who draws perfect figures even without guidelines. Or my piano teacher who follows tunes immediately on the second listen on the piano. When you do certain actions enough times the body makes them a part of itself. And man, Haikyuu is once again so fucking right. Habit does become second nature.
