@areththeimagine
Because abortions aren't the only way the patriarchy wants to control your junk
OBGYN: Yeah, you are exhibiting all the signs of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I’m so sorry.
Me: Huh? Oh, yeah. Insulin resistance, impossible weight loss, pre-disposition to type II diabetes, painful AF periods. Likelihood of bleed outs. Crap. That blows.
OBGYN: Yeah, well that too.
Me: *blinks* What?
OBGYN: Well, PCOS makes it very difficult for a woman to conceive and carry.
Me: BWHAHAHAHA. Yeah. No. No babies. Ever. Never wanted them. At all. Maternal instinct is not strong with this one. Only upside today.
OBGYN: Well then. Not exactly problem solved, but we’ll run with it.
Me: So about the MIND-SEARING PAIN and occasional HEAVY AF BLEEDING. When can we deal with that.
OBGYN: Not until you are 35.
Me: Dah fuq?
OBGYN: Not my rules. Hospitalization won’t even consider any treatment unless it’s life or death until you’re 35.
Me: Why?
OBGYN: Because you might want to have a baby.
Me: I’m 31. I didn’t want kids when I was 11, I didn’t want them at 21, and I sure as shit don’t want them now. Can’t I just sign a form that says “I don’t ever want a baby take it out, take it out now”?
OBGYN: Nope.
Me: Why?
OBGYN: Government rules. No removal of baby making parts before 35 unless your life is in immediate jeopardy.
TL;DR: The government knows better about your baby making parts than you do.
This is just evil. They are literally refusing to treat a potentially life-threatening condition, not just without the patient’s consent but despite the patient’s protest. Evil.
According to the National Women’s Health Network, there’s no legal age restriction- “Technically, any woman of legal age can consent to the procedure, but it should be medically justified. It’s incredibly unlikely that a doctor will perform a hysterectomy on women ages 18-35 unless it is absolutely necessary for their well-being and no other options will suffice.” Of course, this is in the US. Other countries may have different rules.
If you’re in the US and your OBGYN says “government says no,” look for a new one because they lied to you. If your OBGYN says that “hospital says no,” look for a new one because this one doesn’t respect your bodily autonomy. It is true that most surgeons don’t like to perform hysterectomies until you’re in your late 30s at the earliest, but a respectful surgeon will listen to their patient and not just write them off. Sexism in hospitals is alive and well- and it’s not just anecdotal evidence. There’s been a history of looking at it academically/professionally since the 70s (look into Mary Halas as a good place to start if you’re curious), and it crops up all the time in articles in the Journal of Women’s Health and Women’s Health Issues, and the International Journal of Women’s Health all of which are peer-reviewed, well-respected medical journals. It’s absolutely a real thing.
Anyways, I guess what I’m getting at is this: here’s a list of doctors (mostly US-centric) who perform different sterilization surgeries without giving their patients trouble. While even a surgeon on this list might caution anyone under 35 away from a hysterectomy, at the end of the day it’s your body and your pain. (And some of the docs here have been known to perform hysterectomies on people in their 20s with no fuss.) While this list won’t be practical for everyone- after all, medical treatment is ridiculously expensive in this country, it might help someone.
Holy shit fam Holy S H I T
SIGN ME THE FUCK UP I’VE BEEN TOLD THIS IS NOT ALLOWED FOR YEARS
Oh god
QUICK REMINDER THAT I HAD A HYSTERECTOMY A FEW DAYS AFTER MY 26TH BIRTHDAY B/C I HAD CANCER AND I DID EXACTLY THIS. I HAD A DOCTOR WHO DIDN’T WANT TO DO IT AND THEN I WENT TO A NEW DOCTOR AND AFTERWARDS SHE MORE OR LESS SAID MY LIFE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN DANGER HAD I NOT DONE IT.
Sometimes it’s not the doctor, it’s the hospital. For example, my OBGYN worked at a Catholic hospital, so they couldn’t perform any type of sterilization onsite unless it was an emergency situation.
So if your doc feeds you this BS line about not being allowed to, ASK IF IT’S THE HOSPITAL POLICY. If it is, ask if they are able to perform the procedure elsewhere. If they are not, ASK FOR A REFERRAL.
I was 28 years old when my OBGYN explained that he wasn’t allowed to perform a sterilization procedure onsite, and then he proceeded to tell me what a crock of shit it was and referred me to someone else who was able to. And even though I was under 30, his referral listed me as “an ideal candidate” for the procedure.
If they pass off this line and insist when you know otherwise, FIND A NEW DOCTOR.
God help American women
Reblog and pass it on. Find a doctor who will LISTEN to you.
First it was “go to college”
Then it was “major in STEM”
Then it was “one year experience”
Then it was “three years experience”
Then it was “three years of DIRECTLY RELATED experience”
Then it was five years of DIRECTLY RELATED experience"
Now, if you didn’t practically invent the technology a company uses, you’ve got no shot.
“but I started in the mailr..”
Nobody gives a f*ck about how you started in the mail room. You’re the CEO now. The mail room job is an unpaid internship now, and it requires 3 years of directly related mail delivery experience to even be considered. Sit down.
Holy shit, you reblogged this from 3 years ago and, like… there’s not a word here I’d change
reblog to manifest gender euphoria for the person you reblogged this from
But they aren’t documented so they wouldn’t be pa…..nvm
This is a huge misconception for regular Americans. When the government uses the phrase “undocumented” they’re using it incorrectly because if they were truly undocumented then they would’ve be in system. However these immigrants are in the system and they pay taxes, file tax returns and get no benefits that citizens and legal residents get. They also get to see ICE showing up at their doors because the government has their addresses. Fun fact. “Undocumented” workers pays $12 billion dollars every year in taxes. https://www.google.com/amp/www.forbes.com/sites/niallmccarthy/2016/10/06/how-much-tax-do-americas-undocumented-immigrants-actually-pay-infographic/amp/
Reblogging for info.
“Undocumented” just means “without papers,” i.e. a social security card, valid visa, etc. They’re still on databases and whatnot, they just don’t have the documentation that allows them to reap the benefits.
so if it didn’t click- the government is aware of their presence and gladly taking their money under the table while simultaneously promoting the idea that undocumented people are a threat and encouraging hatred and distrust of them it’s super messed up, literally the scheme of an evil villain, and it’s really happening
🗣 undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles contribute more to the GDP than the state of Montana and like 5 other states
I went on a rant on my IG story a few weeks ago and just wanted to share it here cuz i went in depth and got a bit too passionate
transcript after cut
why wont james cameron let avatar go? we know the first movie was just his tech demo for IMAX real-D 3D, i dont think he's ever made a film that wasn't an excuse to just indulge in his rich people hobbies. and now everybody knows what 3D CGI motion capture is and how it works its like water at this point! and disney owns it now too so theyre probably going to try and milk that thing dry. avatar 2 is dead on arrival
… James Cameron worked his butt off to be able to do “rich people ‘hobbies’”. He deserves it. Did you know he did Terminator on a really tiny budget? Now he’s using the money he has made to create something that’s been in his brain since his late 20s (and the story was always meant to have five parts, he just opted to wait for technology to catch up). That’s called patience, my dude. Lastly… it’s not so much about the motion capture itself, but motion capture in water.
I HAVE FINISHED THE BOY!!

MASSIVE SEIZURE WARNING FOR THE HOUSE (2022) ON NETFLIX
from ~45:13 (sausage falling in the rotisserie oven) to ~46:46 (the music glitch stopping) theres like really bright flashing colors as an LED light malfunctions in universe
theres luckily an easy audio cue to tell you when it ends so you can tab out, and nothing visually plot-important happens in the scene, but i did NOT catch any sort of strobing light warning at the beginning and it super caught me off guard. stay safe yall
thank you so much for this warning, please signal boost!
I think that some people go from being told by their cis & straight surroundings what the Right way to be supposedly is, to realizing they're Not Cishet but still thinking, perhaps subconsciously, that there must be a Right way to be their identity. (It would certainly explain a bunch of exclusionary discourse stances, at least.)
People telling you "This is how you, as an afab/amab person, must perform femininity/masculinity" and "This is how you must fall in love, date, have sex, get married, this is how your relationships must look" aren't simply wrong because actually, as somebody of x identity, you must perform your gender like This and your relationships must look like That.
They're not wrong bc they're telling you the wrong way to be, they're wrong for trying to tell you how to be at all, and replacing them with different rules on how to be isn't liberation, it's exchanging one prison for another. They're wrong bc there's no one-size-fits-all to these things, ever.
Everything you see other people under the rainbow do is optional. Every single label is optional, having labels at all is optional. Using the SAM is optional. Binding, tucking, HRT and legal name changes are all optional. Any and all stylistic choices people of your identity like to go for are optional. Applying any kind of terminology to yourself is optional.
You're not Being Your Identity Wrong, no matter which options you do or don't choose.
I hate how a lot of cultural appropriation discourse has forgotten the reason why it started appearing. It wasn't meant to punish white people for being ignorant and ban them from partaking in other cultures.
It was a discussion meant to draw attention that people of colour were constantly being overlooked or punished for the exact same things that white people were celebrated for. It was meant to elevate people of colour to an understanding and respect that white people had been afforded for years, often unearned.
So seeing people go "white people don't partake in anything that isn't white" misses a lot of nuance in the discussion, because a lot of different cultures ARE willing to share and allow people into their culture on their own terms and in a respectful matter.
There's a massive difference between a white person going "I just invented the BEST version of this" where everything had been watered down and stripped away versus one going "I try out this thing to appreciate cultures and viewpoints that aren't my own".
As a first generation Asian Australian whose own cultural identity is a massive clusterfuck I do think we need to remember that cultural exchange and sharing is incredibly important for an ever changing and global culture.
