a little reminder! by annalaura_art
the use of AI lately has made me feel so hopeless, i translated pages of an unfinished fanzine of mine so i can remember why i love art...i hope it can resonate with anyone feeling the same way

Finally got this thing mounted! Iām so happy with how it looks! ššš
I had a dream that unless the teacher told us class was over, we were forbidden from going out the door. Our teacher was very forgetful, and maybe even malicious. After being forced to stay past sunset many days, my class decided we were going to break out every night. Eventually our attempts led us to discovering rifts in space-time where we could warp. So we never used the door. Checkmate.

what? you going to critique my dreams? my subconscious creations, that I did by accident, while asleep? the chemicals in my brain? are you going to use your foul eyes and dissect all of the plotholes in my dreams? you going to critique the weather? harass the clouds? make fun of thunder for being off key? remind me to come to your house and shred your shoes
That response is fucking Shakespearean.
World Heritage Post
all video games should have a āIām shit at video games but Iām curious about the story and I donāt want to watch a letās playā mode
I am
I made this post because I am disabled and no matter how much I practice there are some games I will never be able to play because I physically cannot move my fingers the way you have to and the responses to this post from other disabled people, people who grew up unable to play video games, and people who just arenāt very good at them has been extremely enthusiastically positive, while people who apparently canāt conceive of the idea that some people will never be good at gaming condescendingly comment, tag or send me asks telling me to try easy mode or to get good despite the fact that the feature Iām describing already exists in some games and mods. if youāre part of the latter group, consider that some of us can not ever be good at video games and we still deserve to be able to participate and have fun
Ok, real talk, if you play PC games I use a program called Wemod that has settings for almost every game ever and you can change them to suit your needs Unlimited health? one hit kill? unlimited items? They canāt mod multiplayer games, but every genre of game imaginable is on Wemod so I use it for everything from stardew valley, subnautica, hades, farming sim and more! It mods the games to your level of ease without needing to mess with any files or get deep into webpages for mods yourself It is a life changer
FYI ā¬ļøā¬ļøā¬ļø
Only passing along as the only games I play are on my phone.
Get an older sibling and have them play the game and you watch
One, this is older siblings who watch younger siblings play erasure, two thatās not the point. People deserve to enjoy the experience of playing a game for themselves. Watching someone play is fun. Playing yourself is a different kind of fun.
There are so many reasons why someone wouldnāt want to be challenged by a game, and itās ridiculous that people canāt fathom someone requiring a different gameplay than themselves.Ā
Back in the dark ages when I was a kid and we got our first computer, my dad noticed that I was sad because I wanted to play computer games like him, so he would let me play his games in god mode. Should a five year old have been playing Ultimate Doom? Absolutely not. Did I enjoy the shit out of it, particularly the part where I couldnāt die and could just wander around aimlessly machine gunning demons to death with no real goal in mind? Hell yes.
Also, no one should have to explain the reason they want to play the game in god mode.
That is absolutely none of your business, if someone wants to play the game with max items, weapons, armor, money etc., whatever reason theyāre playing that way for. YOU, the anon on the internet have no business knowing or shitting on how they play. Itās THEIR game, and THEIR gameplay experience. and I hope OP was able to play their game the way they wanted to without being stymied by the games mechanics.
Oh shit, I have something for this!
Can I Play That provides accessibility focused game reviews and news. For Disabled Gamers, By Disabled Gamers.
Can I Play That? is a fantastic resource for fellow disabled folks who want to play video games, as well as non-disabled video game devs who want to make their games more accessible. I highly recommend checking it out!
if youāre interested in videogame accesability, i recommend LauraKBuzz and Stephanie Sterling video.
both of them are disabled trans creators who make great game reviews and video game industry commentary respectively.
i cant recommend sterlingās video on mouthwashing enough
Another thing is that Letās Plays canāt actually fill this gap all the time. That is an entertainer who is performing for you. They arenāt going to behave the way you would or focus on the same things you will, and if itās a livestreamer they have other people they are interacting with besides you.
Maybe not everybody slows down in an RPG game to inspect the textures or the models or atmospheric dialog or to Check Every Trash Can. But you might. And you wonāt have the experience with a game YOU want if you have to rely on other people performing play for you.
And if someone is like, āwell why would you want to play a game if you didnāt want to play the gameā, thatās not any of their business. Youāre allowed to kick a soccer ball around without playing full soccer. You should be able to boot up a racing game just to look at the racetrack, you shouldnāt be told ājust be a spectatorā if you want to do that.
Today's Seal Is: Beautiful Rolls
Hey hold on is this showing up as mature content for you guys
Hello! I really like your use of empty space in your artworks, in that no space is ever empty; thereās always a little color, or a sparkle, or another element of your characterās design being showcased, and I really love how busy yet clean and interesting it makes your artworks! Do you have any advice for making compositions like yours? I am currently trying to make a reference for my peacemaker design, but I am struggling with making the page filled and how/where/what to place in various negative spaces
Hello! I donāt have any super specific guides for filling out the empty space, but I can try to explain how I do it! Hope this info will be useful for you š
If we are talking about the ref sheets, first I usually pick a 4000*3000 canvas size and enlarge it if as I go along I find that I'm running out of space!
(^ like here when I started with a 3000*4000 size and ended up with 3500*4000 because I needed to expand the space to add color palette and accessories)
Sometimes I don't even have specific ideas for a ref sheet and its details, and just start with a regular fullbody and then continue to expand the canvas and add more details as I work. Like it was with my latest design, cockatiel dragon:
Also, I always have some key elements that I add to the ref sheet! Usually itās:
- main fullbody image
- chibis with front/back view (+ possibly portrait)
- color palette
- accessories or outfits
- characterās name or brief info made with some fancy font
- random scribbles across the whole reference :D just so I can make it look more fun and fill out the empty space left
- maybe even text inserts explaining various details, like I did with this pitaya dragon:
Keeping all these elements in head, you can imagine how you could arrange them! I usually draw fullbody and chibis first, and then try to fill in all the empty spaces with color palette blocks/accessories and random doodles ^^
lets become mama
I hate the sound of babies crying, but I can't hate a baby. They've been here for like five minutes and approach this situation with an unhesitant attitude of "my needs are unmet and I am going to make it everybody's problem", and I respect that.
Something I read years ago and completely agree with, is that human babies are pretty helpless compared to many other species. We can't walk or run within hours of being born, as many mammals can. We don't have teeth yet, to defend ourselves. We can't get our own food for a long time.
But one thing human babies are really good at - often within seconds of being born - is asking for help.
As we mature and gain new skills - vocabulary both verbal and written, gestures, facial expressions, and so forth - the way we ask for help changes. But babies have just one way of asking for help - filling their lungs with air and wailing. And they're right to do so! Their needs are unmet and they cannot do a damn thing about it except request assistance.
There's plenty of adults who could stand to take some pointers.

Important rules/tips I've learned as an adult that helped with anxiety
If people are mad at you, it's their responsibility to tell you, not your responsibility to guess
If they're mad at you in secret anyways, they're the ones in the wrong, not you
If people don't like what you're doing, it's their responsibility to tell you
If they say it's fine when it's really not, they're the ones in the wrong, not you
People are allowed to be wrong about you
If they are wrong about you, wait for them to bring it up, because if you try to, you will inevitably overcorrect
Some people are committed to misunderstanding you. You will not win arguments against them. Yes, even if you explain your point of view. They do not care. Drop it
The worst thing that will happen from a first-time offense is being told not to do it again. Maybe with a replacement if you broke something
You can improve relationships and gauge willingness to talk to you by giving compliments. It's like a daily log-in bonus and nobody thinks twice about it
Most things are better after you sleep on them
Most things are better after you have a meal
Most things are better after you shower
Your brain makes up consequences that are irrational. If the worst DOES come to pass and someone acts like they do in your head, they are overreacting, and you are entitled to say "what the fuck"
If your chest hurts after you feel like you've made a social error, that's called rejection-sensitive dysphoria. It means your anxiety is so bad that it's causing you physical pain, which is a good indicator that you're overreacting. Tense yourself, hold it for 20 seconds, let it go, then find a distraction
If you're suddenly angry at someone after you feel like you made a social error, that's also rejection-sensitive dysphoria. You are going to feel annoyed about it for awhile, but being genuinely pissed off is your anxiety trying to find something to blame to take the responsibility off your shoulders, and getting scared because it can't justify itself. Deep breaths, ask yourself how much you ACTUALLY want to be angry at that person, then find a distraction
"Sour grapes" is more healthy for you than stewing. Deciding you don't like someone who's perpetually annoyed with you, won't talk to you, etc. makes letting go of anxiety over them easier
If people don't like you, they will find reasons to be annoyed with you when they otherwise wouldn't. If people do like you, they will find reasons NOT to be annoyed with you when they otherwise would. People do not ping-pong between the two
You DO have to make a conscious choice not to think about something. If you're having trouble circling back to it, say out loud that you're done thinking about it and why. Then find a distraction
When you're upset, part of you is going to want to make false bids for attention (suddenly texting differently, heavy sighs, etc. but when someone asks you about it, you tell them it's nothing). Do not listen to it. You gain nothing from it except more misery
People like to help people they care about. It makes them feel good about themselves
If you think you're insufferable for needing help, see above. Yes, really. They get a serotonin kick from it
If you think you're insufferable for mannerisms you have, you either have to consciously choose not to do them, or accept that they're part of the package that comes with you. Being apologetic about existing does nothing except make you more miserable
If you do things you don't like when you feel meh about it, it makes it easier to do them when you hate it
If you avoid things you don't like when you feel meh about it, it reinforces and magnifies how bad it feels when you hate it
Seriously. Read those last two points again. If you can make yourself make a phone call when you've got nothing to lose, you will slowly lose that panic you get when you have to make a phone call you haven't prepared for. You do have to CONSCIOUSLY take that step
Hobbies that make you care for something get rid of that nagging feeling that you're not doing enough. Go grow some rosemary
If you don't engage with your hobbies regularly, you will feel miserable, and anxiety will spike
Hobbies are things that give you a bit of happiness. They do not have to be organized or named to do that. Go be creative in something. Play with coins. Make up lists. Start a new WIP
No one cares what you look like
If people point out things they don't like about how you look unprompted, they are being rude. You are entitled to say "what the fuck"
People who like you will find you pretty to some degree. Minor things about your appearance go completely unnoticed. Literally, scars and dots and blemishes do not register to someone who likes your company
You looking at yourself in the mirror is 10x more closely than anyone is going to look at you
If you're anxious about your body type, and you're creatively inclined, make/write an oc with that same shape. Give them nice things and make other characters love them. Put them on adventures. You'll start to see yourself in the mirror more kindly
You care about wording and perfect lines/colors way more than anyone who views your work ever will
Sometimes when you're upset, you're going to feel like not eating. Do not do that. Not eating makes you more miserable
Same with things you normally enjoy. Denying yourself helps no one. You are punishing yourself for being sad. Stop it
Both of these will take conscious decision to break the habit of. Make yourself do it anyways, and it will slowly get easier
And again, to reiterate: If someone is mad at you, it is THEIR responsibility to tell you, not your responsibility to guess

Okay I JUST realized I never posted these on hereā- BUT BASICALLY, about a year and a half ago I started doing these experimental black hairstyle posts that were threads long on Twitter, to give artists a source of inspo for their black ocs whose hair they wanted to try something new with! Thereās more to black hair than just the selected styles portrayed in media, and I thought it would be fun to show people how much texture, shape, fades, length, and style can be combined when drawing black hairā-cause itās a kind of manipulation our hair can do irl! The OG posts were lost with the hacking of my original Twitter account (@/bagels_donuts) but Iāve since reuploaded the whole thread to my new Twitter (@/ItsDonutsFR)! I hope artists on tumblr find these useful, sorry it took me so long to post them hereššš¾ Iāll upload them all in parts!
