Chat, is it considered “abusive roommate behavior” to release a raccoon into the living space after you have asked your roommate for months to please clean up their messes (they do not pay any of the mortgage)

For context, when I used to live alone I would do something called “Princess Time” where I would do an initial sweep (to remove any significant hazards) and then I would release a raccoon into the living area and clean. This helped because I would 1) feel like a princess and 2) the raccoon would bring attention to things my ADHD brain had decided to ignore and I’d quickly clean that stuff up.

So like, if I’m expected to clean the house now, I will be doing it in the way that is most effective for me. And anything that has not been cleaned up after months of having sit-down talks and sending reminders and being promised things will change, might be deemed “trash” by the trash panda and thrown away.

I am a raccoon biologist and one of the few people in the state allowed to take in captive bred raccoons that had been possessed illegally. The raccoon in the photos is Moonshine, but she is currently at the animal sanctuary where I work as I had been quarantining multiple new intakes from an abuse case. I still have two males (Rum Tum Tugger and Electra) left in my home enclosure as we are getting them neutered and then hopefully sending them to an AZA accredited zoo.

I wanna make things very clear that underneath all the whimsy, I am a trained professional.

Habsburg Jewelry Rediscovered

Yesterday, Karl von Habsburg-Lothringen, the head of the former Austrian royal family, announced that jewelry long thought to be lost has been rediscovered in a bank vault in Canada!

The most famous piece in the stash is the Florentine Diamond. It is a 137.27 carat irregular double rose cut diamond with a light yellow color that's known history dates back the Medici family in the 1600s. Since it's disappearance a century ago, there have been many rumors about what happened to the diamond and know we know that it was safe in Canada all along.

Emperor Charles I, the last emperor of Austria-Hungary, and his wife, Empress Zita, took the jewels with them when they fled the country at the end of WWI in 1918 and went into exile in Switzerland. The family stayed in Europe until the Nazis annexed Austria in 1938 and Crown Prince Otto was declared an enemy of the state. They went first to the US and then settled in Canada.

While in Canada, Empress Zita placed the jewelry into a bank vault in Quebec. She left them there even after her returned to Europe following WWII and only told two of her children, Robert and Rudolf, where they were. She asked them to keep it a secret for 100 years past the death of Emperor Charles in 1922. They each told one of their children about the jewels before they died and so her grand children, Lorenz (better known as the husband of Princess Astrid of Belgium) and Simeon, became the secret keepers until recently.

According to the website the family has set up, the jewelry has been placed into a Canadian trust with the direct descendants of Charles and Zita as the beneficiaries. They plan to put the jewelry in a public exhibition somewhere in Canada.

The context here is that the Austrian government has said that they are going to try to claim the jewels. The family has laid out all of the various laws that they believe mean the jewels are private property but I don't see them being taken out of Canada any time soon just in case.
