I'm Ash, writing as A. N. Davis. I'm a fantasy/horror writer, professional coffee drinker, and I side hustle as an emotional saboteur. This is my main haunt for all things fiction, WIPs, and occasional publishing woes.

Can a cursed, high-maintenance prince, a potential trapped spirit, and royal machinations stop her from getting certified? A reluctant monster. An artistic novice. One city full of shadows and secrets between them. Genre: Dark/gothic fantasy with historical leaning Vibes: Fangs, faith, and fractured characters Status: drafting!

Victorian Psycho has the best use of imagery as mood setting, character psychological framing, character physical descriptions…like. Let me just show you 2 I’ve highlighted.

Example 1:

“Rusted freckles sprinkle his strikingly long forehead like the indiscriminate spray of blood from a slit throat.”

I’m sorry??? What did you just say about goddamn freckles?!

Example 2:

“Observing my clean, respectable image in the glass I open my mouth wide in an attempt to catch a glimpse of the Darkness within me, to spy it peeking out of me, slick and muscular and toothed, like a lamprey swallowed whole.”

This is 100% the type of book that I know will live with me, possess me, infiltrate my creativity, like a cloaked wolf.

10k words into my newer WIP, Second Breath. I’m loving my setting of the museum. And I’ve been able to keep my Daddy Leon obsession going strong as slight inspo for one of my protagonists. Hoping to finish chapter 6 today.

For anyone serializing their stories: do you start posting when it’s finished? Do you post a chapter a week? What’s your writing/editing schedule?
