Some Doctor who memes and thoughts of mine

Okay, I think I’ve figured out what’s going on with Doctor Who. Please don’t slaughter me for this...

First off, I’m not hating on the show at all. I’m making a personal observation.

I feel like Doctor Who under Chibnail has gotten less character driven and more plot driven. There’s so much focus on what happens to the characters and not enough on the characters’ feelings about it.

I don’t feel as emotionally engaged by it.

13 is a lot of fun and I love her goofiness, she reminds me of myself, but I feel like we don’t dig into her the way we dug into previous incarnations. It’s a shame, and I hope we see more of how The Timeless Children affected her.

Basically it’s like the difference between seeing the stuff someone blogs about vs actually knowing them. I feel like we’re not being allowed to know 13. And I really want to. I may have to do it with fanfics in the future though, if I feel inspired enough.

This is not anything Jodie is doing wrong, it’s the writing itself. This is not about the Doctor’s gender or any of that.

Jodie is tremendous and I can tell she’s having fun, and that’s what keeps me wanting to watch. I keep hoping to see 13 and Yaz get closer, and maybe that’s still going to happen.

The show is still fun, don’t get me wrong, but it feels like it’s skimming the surface instead of diving down like previous versions used to. I feel like substance is being sacrificed for flashy visuals and epic environments. I guess it feels very broad and far away, vs getting in close and intimate.

I feel apart from the action instead of being in the middle of it... Does that make sense?
