Monospaced fonts don't necessarily take up the full nor same width of the space allotted, so we would expect to see variation regardless of whether it's monospace or not. (M, o, and n all take up different amounts of their allotted space in the above example.) EVEN SO: 'i' would also be _ in monospace: 𝚒 has a horizontal base.
