@azentrefle
The first preorders are getting ready to ship out- all that’s left is to hand wash them- so that means I’m starting a new preorder!
Like many, I’m still without a job. Making these shaped masks has been the only source of income I’ve had for six months. Not only do the sales help me personally, they also allow me to continue to buy supplies so I can donate regular masks to charities or folks who can’t afford them. I’ve donated 120 to different organizations and well over 200 masks to people who have reached out to me. Just 50 masks will pay my rent.
Like before I will be selling these masks at a discounted preorder price. The reason to make these masks a preorder is that I need to know how much fabric to buy! That’s because @dani-gdraws and I have paired up and they have created fantastic pride fabric that will look amazing with any shaped mask. This fabric will be available in all of the shaped masks! I really love this fabric and will keep these masks as preorder until January 20, 2021.The preorders will go out in different batches but will officially end in January.
I would be thankful and appreciative if you could buy a mask or share and spread the word.

I’m an American and I know that many of my fellow Americans are, at best, worried. No matter the tension the next few days there will still be a fight for justice and what is right.
I want to help more.
I have opened up pre-orders for regular fitted masks with a pattern created by Ashley Summers. 50% of the profits, minus shipping, will be given to a new charity that helps fight injustice each month. This month’s donation will go to the ACLU.
It will take approximately two weeks to get the fabric, the images of the mask you see are to show the fit, and after that will be shipped out in order received. You can find them ready to pre-order at my Kofi shop.

Thank you.
Stay safe and stay healthy.
A lot has happened in the last year of March. Just before I lost my job I started sewing masks for friends, family, and coworkers. I decided to expand to anyone who contacted me who needed a low cost or free mask because they couldn’t buy or make their own. I set up a Facebook page and Instagram called Maskcare for All where anyone can fill out the Google request form to get a mask, and if they’re able, they can donate money for the mask or for others. The donations buy the supplies as well as help me make ends meet. Last month I made a total of 271 masks with the majority of them going out as donations.
I’ve done this for the past six months and finally decided to actually start selling specialty masks. Right now I have three shaped masks in adult and child sizes available for preorder. My goal is to get at least 50 preorders by November 7th and right now they’re at a lower preorder price! Once the preorders have been met I’ll start selling limited already made masks.
I would really appreciate it if you could purchase a mask or at least spread the word!

[image description: three masks. the first is light blue and extends past the face on the sides to form frills like you would see on an aquatic creature. the second is red and the sides extend to form wings, resembling a dragon. the third is black and the sides extend into wings, resembling a bat. the last photo is of a person wearing the first light blue frilled mask. end id.]
Wow. Wow. Wow.
I am completely stunned and delighted by the response to these. Thank you all so very much. As of 15 minutes ago I am SO close to meeting my original preorder goal!
If it’s met by today I’ll create two more mask shapes that will have a discounted preorder! Once the first preorder ends on November 7th my Kofi shop will have two more preorder masks available plus individual masks that have already been created and area ready to ship first thing.
As mentioned before they’re currently discounted and all will have a price increase after preorders. This is because these masks are really labor intensive! Not to mention how often I stab myself.
Please don’t forget that even though I’m selling these, you are still welcome to request regular pleated masks if you can’t afford or make your own masks. Just look for the pinned post on the Maskcare for All facebook page. You can also follow me on Instagram to see how things are made/pics behind the scenes!

I am still floored by how much all of you have shared and bought mask preorders. I am overwhelmed and overjoyed. I plan on introducing two more mask shapes tomorrow and I can’t wait to share them with you. I think everyone will love them.

Some people don’t understand how big this is, opening a school, especially a public one is a huge undertaking and even with LeBron money it’s costly.
It’s really nice to see black celebs and athletes actually show their support for the community, rather than sparing a few words about it.

She/her also personally fought against transwomen in prison seeking gender affirmation surgery…
Here’s an article that gives more details on the story, and what Harris said about it. The key points:
It was the California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation that refused the surgery to the inmates. When the inmates fought the policy in court, as Attorney General of California, it was Harris’s job to represent the Department. Yes, she did it, but it wasn’t something she decided on her own to do. (Also, not for nothing, the inmates won the case.)
Her characterization of the episode: “On that issue I will tell you I vehemently disagree and in fact worked behind the scenes to ensure that the Department of Corrections would allow transitioning inmates to receive the medical attention that they required, they needed and deserved,” Harris said.
A policy now exists for inmates to receive transition-related care in California prisons (although apparently the DoC isn’t doing a great job of holding up its end of the bargain*–quelle surprise).
(*For the record, Harris finished her time as AG and became a Senator shortly after this agreement was reached, so it’s someone else’s job now to enforce it.)
The thing to keep in mind here is that, as Attorney General, Kamala Harris couldn’t wave her hand and have everything in the entire California Department of Justice go exactly as she wanted it–and she won’t be able to as Vice President, either. We currently have a president who thinks that’s how it works, and we’re damned lucky he’s wrong.
She had (and will have to) work with large number of people who hold different views. (Another article I read said that the California Department of Justice, which she ran as AG, employs about 4,800 people–that’s a lot of different views.) If she had refused to back the Department of Corrections in their case, she would have alienated people whose cooperation she needed to be able to rely on. (If she even had the option of not backing them and staying AG–I’m not sure how it works, exactly.) Even people who agreed with her about the specific matter might have disapproved of her hanging her subordinates out to dry. (Another thing our current president does constantly–notice how Harris isn’t saying that the person in her office who actually wrote these briefs is a bad guy that she barely knew.)
So here’s what actually happened when Kamala Harris “fought against transwomen in prison seeking gender affirmation surgery”:
The Department of Corrections had a policy denying gender-affirmation surgery to inmates.
Two inmates fought that policy in court.
Harris defended that policy in court (or, more accurately, was the supervisor of the person who did so–but the legal documents went out under her signature, and she takes responsibility for their content).
Harris also worked to change the policy.
If you’ve had a job, you’ve probably been in the position of having to carry out a policy that you don’t agree with. Your choices are to quit your job in protest or stay and argue that the policy should change. If you pick option B, you still have to follow the policy while you’re working to change it–again, just about the only person in the world who doesn’t know this is Donald J. Trump, because he’s never had a real job where he answered to anybody.
What this incident shows is that Kamala Harris is accustomed to working in a system where she doesn’t always get her own way, and that she knows how to lose the battle to win the war. As VP, she’s going to need those skills–especially if the Republicans keep the Senate, but even if the Democrats sweep everything in November, we’re notoriously bad at all pulling in the same direction. We’ve had about enough of the “I’m taking my ball and going home” style of leadership.
This.
I get it, I really do - but Trump has literally stripped away rights from trans kids and fucked the careers of trans people in the military. Pence believes in conversion therapy.
We can remember and discuss these issues, but at the end of the day, Trump/Pence is the greater evil and we need to vote in a unified way to get them out of office because the second term would be so much worse. Don’t vote independent, just suck it up and recognize that we’re not gonna get a perfect candidate ever.
Voting Trump is a face full of glass shards, and a vote for an independent is a vote for Trump. This isn’t complicated.
I had not seen this explanation, and I’m reblogging it because I probably have followers who haven’t either.

here’s an article about the original thread, including a transcription of the tweets & some context (May 28, 2019)
another article that goes more into the issue of water (May 28, 2019) (“The Havasupai Tribe has, in fact, voiced concerns about groundwater pumping near the Grand Canyon. In 2016, the tribe sued the city of Williams and other well owners, saying the drilling of more wells for resorts, developments, theme parks and uranium mines, among other businesses, increasingly threatens the tribe’s water. […] Duthie said those sorts of concerns shouldn’t hinder Stilo’s proposal for the hotel on Kotzin Ranch because the company wouldn’t use a well.”)
as of January 24, 2020, Stilo had submitted a “a revised proposal for roads and utility easements connecting to parcels of land they own that are surrounded by the Kaibab National Forest” (unanimously approved). opening these roads would require “some blasting.” as regards the groundwater:
Gitlin also worried that the new proposal did not adequately protect the area’s groundwater.
The proposal promises that commercial water needs — which during peak season, would be 275,000 gallons a day — would have to be hauled in by truck. It still allows “residential uses” to be met by pumping groundwater.
In the proposal, Stilo offered to agree to a “complete prohibition” on commercial groundwater use, except in the event of “technological breakthroughs resulting in proven zero-impact upon groundwater resources.”
It suggested a restrictive covenant or a conservation easement to enforce that restriction, but it’s not clear who would be responsible for that enforcement.
effectively, plans for development are going forward, & previous reassurances that no immediate proposals were being made seem like lies.
it’s worth mentioning in light of some other comments going around that the issue here isn’t preserving the untouched pristine beauty of nature or something–this kind of terra nullius-inflected rhetoric in fact relies upon colonialist & genocidal logic–but rather the responsibilities & livelihoods of the people who belong to the land & stand to be harmed by these proposals.
incidentally, the Havasupai Tribe have a COVID-19 relief fund that you can donate to here, in addition to emailing & calling the people listed above.
