Almost didn't bother posting on tumblr because I don't think she'll vibe much but I DID finish this piece of Thelora today. She's an illusion wizard and a 'for fun' dnd character of mine. (Her dragon form just has the stats of a sorcerer's dragon summon so she's not completely broken.)
Also a poymorphed dragon who chooses to be on the chubby side, so I thought she fit Fat Dragon Friday well enough.
It’s a balance. Knowing how to do the basics is useful for special occasions and job interviews. Same with identifying cosmetics that match your skin type and tone.
But it can be frustrating when you try so hard and still don’t get it right, especially when you have grown up with a lot of judgment about appearances
I am a full-time author of science fiction and fantasy. "Professional" for me is conventions where people dress up like elves.
And I still get treated like I'm better at my job when I'm wearing a visible amount of eye makeup.
I did a book tour where I tested this, varying the amount of makeup I wore for each appearance, and documenting my results. No makeup, people acted like I didn't know what I was doing. Clear mascara/light foundation, they were a little more willing to believe I could read.
Glitter eyeliner and cartoonish eyeshadow? I was suddenly a professional who could do my job like a competent adult.
I lost some faith in humanity and bought several new eyeshadow palettes.
I'm lucky enough that I don't work in a 'customer' facing role, or need to interact with lots of adults on a daily basis.
I am an early childhood educator. Have been for 10 years. In all those years I have worn make up to work exactly 0 times (unless you count face paint, in which cace once cause i was a Saja boy for halloween). Not for photos, not for an interview, not even for parties going out. My legs get shaved when I feel like it.
Parents likely judge me for it. They're people, many of them are the stuck up entitled Karen's you would expect. They've never said anything to me, but I'm sure they've thought things.
But I'm not there for them. I'm there for their children. The kids I work with are wonderful people. They don't judge me for not wearing make up, it's normal to them. I think I am the only female educator who wears 0 makes up. Out of a staff of 20? I think I'm definitely the only female educator there who doesn't shave/wax their legs frequently. I don't keep my legs covered either, I am in shorts as soon as the sun is out.
None of that matters to the children. I've had a couple who have noticed my legs, run their hands along them curious. Simply because they don't often see women with hairy legs. The kids ask about why my legs are like that. I say because I don't want to take the hair off. Some people like to, I don't. Then I direct them to their legs, "see, you have hair on your legs too. You have hair all over your body, everyone does unless they take it off".
It's sad, we're told to teach children to love their bodies and love themselves, all while we cover up and change our own. I know everyone who wears make-up does it for their own reasons, and I will never tell anyone not to do so. I just wish they wouldn't push it onto everyone else and treat people differently if they don't conform.
I don't know where I was going with all this. I started it with a purpose, but that disappeared about half way through so I just word vomited and decided since I typed it, I may as well post it.
just because you havent seen me post about The Character in a while doesn't mean i'm any less insane about them in private
No one discovers “a secret third thing” better than people with ADHD
I want a copy of this song for my Halloween playlist
if you're disappointed with Taylor Swift's new album just a reminder that all profits from streaming The Slur Song go towards me purchasing an egg salad sandwich
20,000 notes and i'll buy the mayonaise

hello physically disabled person reading this. it is not your fault that your medical supplies are made from a lot of single use plastic and you can continue using them guilt free. your health comes first. thank you for existing.
if your insulin pump has lithium batteries and the tubing is plastic,
if your ostomy bags, incontinence supplies, and sanitary wipes are single-use,
if your joint replacement, bone plate, pins & screws, or spinal hardware is cobalt & chrome,
if your meds come in a plastic container you can’t recycle or reuse for sterility,
you are still innocent. you didn’t choose this particular life. we all must do what we can to survive and that includes using technology and consuming resources. it is only human and we all do it.
some people out there own several yachts and don’t ever consider the impact it has on the world. there’s nothing to be gained by beating yourself up for doing the bare minimum for a comfortable, livable, safe & long life.
Just want to add, don’t cut corners. Don’t risk your life when there are people who could do a lot more without risking theirs.
Don’t reuse the syringe. Don’t use cloths over alcohol swabs. Choose the battery powered device over the rechargeable if it means you can carry spares. Don’t use the reusable container if you can’t get it open. Don’t choose the reusable option if you can’t keep it clean. Don’t overfill the sharps container. Don’t improvise the tourniquet. Don’t eat the expired food if you can’t afford to be sick. Don’t choose the sustainable option if it doesn’t meet your needs.
Your life is not others’ priority so it has to be yours.
at all points I was ready for him to start eating the stands
This was disturbingly normal for him
real writers
one of my most controversial art opinions, but i do not think you need to finish a book to be an author. lots of talk on 'WHEN do you become a REAL writer? 10000 words? 1000 word?' personally i think it takes ZERO words to be a valid writer. john cage would still be a musician if he only wrote 4'33
music is just as much about the notes you dont play as it is the notes you do. writing is just as much about the words you dont use as it is the ones you do. to be a REAL WRITER is a matter of perception not volume. zero words required. you are one when youre ready to be one
i mean this very literally, if someone comes to me and says 'when will i be a valid author? so far i have written no words' it is my opinion that they already are
butt types

Kurt Vonnegut wrote: “When I was 15, I spent a month working on an archeological dig. I was talking to one of the archeologists one day during our lunch break and he asked those kinds of “getting to know you” questions you ask young people: Do you play sports? What’s your favorite subject? And I told him, no I don’t play any sports. I do theater, I’m in choir, I play the violin and piano, I used to take art classes.
And he went WOW. That’s amazing! And I said, “Oh no, but I’m not any good at ANY of them.”
And he said something then that I will never forget and which absolutely blew my mind because no one had ever said anything like it to me before: “I don’t think being good at things is the point of doing them. I think you’ve got all these wonderful experiences with different skills, and that all teaches you things and makes you an interesting person, no matter how well you do them.”
And that honestly changed my life. Because I went from a failure, someone who hadn’t been talented enough at anything to excel, to someone who did things because I enjoyed them. I had been raised in such an achievement-oriented environment, so inundated with the myth of Talent, that I thought it was only worth doing things if you could “Win” at them.

“afab chests aren’t inherently sexu—” please say breasts please just say breasts please please please stop throwing the term “afab” around say tatas say titties say big bahoona bazingoroos if you must
not to be that guy but if you’re talking about breasts, say breasts. if you’re talking about pregnancy, say pregnancy. you don’t have to bend over backwards coming up with wacky shit like “uterus-having pregnancy-carrier” or “afab presenting nipples” to be more inclusive. half the time, it’s not inclusive anyway. so just be specific. a person with breasts can simply be “a person with breasts.” it’s easy, it’s fun, it’s free
