Shidgemas 2018

As Halloween comes to a close, department stores start to deck the halls with blinding silver tinsel, and radio stations play holiday music during the month of the great turkey feast.

But wait! We’re missing an event: Shidgemas, of course!

Shidgemas is a week-long event that goes from December 16 to December 22, 2018. Shippers of Shiro and Pidge are invited to make some wintery shidge content, such as (but not limited to) art and fanfiction.

Prompts will be posted November 1.

As the title boldly proclaims, this post is going to be just a massive PROMO for a good friend of mine who has AMAZING work and is wonderful and precious and is currently offering commissions. Though “massive” may be a bit of an overstatement for the size of this post, it’s still relevant because I love her work so much. So without further ado…

Due to strenuous circumstances that are not my place to delve into, she’s in need of some money, and any little bit counts! I’m going to gush about her work some, probably, as well as throw some links out here, so let’s get started.

A beautiful OC named Veera (I’m pretty sure she’s a Galra in the VLD universe but I could be mistaken. Regardless, she’s gorgeous and I love her a lot).

Those are just a few that I really, really adore! There are so many good things there, so definitely do check her page out!

Ari is really a great person and I’m blessed to consider her a friend of mine. Honestly, some of my Haikyuu!! fics and ideas wouldn’t exist without her to bounce with and push me to keep writing (I’m looking at that hanahaki AU and 3am struggling to keep my eyes open) and it was partially her fault that I wrote and subsequently fell in love with Kirishima x Mina (BNHA). And just talking to her helps me relax after a stressful day.

I don’t quite think she understands just how important she and her friendship is to me, but a hint: it’s a lot. 

So, I’m hoping to help out in any way that I can, and I’m hoping y’all can help out, too!

Netflix's 'Voltron' Almost Didn't Let Shiro Be a Gay Lead Character

“We were like, this is important, we can’t just water it down."

“A relationship that strong and that far along, you don’t just stop having those feelings,” voice actor Josh Keaton, who plays Shiro, tells Inverse. “Even if there are circumstances in life that make it impossible to be together, you still love them. And [Shiro’s] doubt is, ‘Did I make the right choice? Should I have stayed home and made a life there?’ That eats away at Shiro the entire time he’s been gone.”

But Shiro almost didn’t have an Adam to get back to. As it turns out, some unknown decisions behind the scenes nearly forced Shiro’s personal life to be more vague than the explicit reveal of Adam as Shiro’s fiancé.

“I don’t really know all of the going-ons behind the scenes,” Keaton carefully makes clear to Inverse, “but it almost wasn’t going to happen.” Alternate takes of Shiro and Adam talking to each other were recorded that were way less explicit about their relationship. “We had to record other stuff to make it more vague,” Keaton says.

But the cast and crew of Voltron never gave up, knowing full well what it meant to have a character like Shiro be gay in an all-ages, action-adventure cartoon. “All of us were really clamoring for it,” he says. “We were like, this is important, we can’t just water it down. I was really upset about it. Bex [Taylor-Klaus] was really upset about it.”

Luckily, things turned around. “Everybody came together because it was something all of us felt was important to see and to have. Even the PR people at DreamWorks helped a lot. Everybody was on the same page.”

friendly reminder that the vld staff worked very hard in order to push lgbt rep through into official canon, and what a way to thank them by accusing them of queerbaiting and complaining to them directly about a minor character who was never meant to get all that much screen time in the first place. shiro still exists and he’s died and survived, like wow would you look at that, an lgbt character who lived despite everything he went through and then even became CAPTAIN of a fckn alien mecha ship.

and not to mention zethrid/ezor???? pretty explicit lgbt ship if you ask me. stop pretending y’all care about lgbt rep. it was always abt your precious ship and getting your own way on a show that doesn’t even belong to you.
