Another design is using 2 20x25x1 filters, taping them to the sides of the box fan and then to each other so they sort of make a triangle, then cutting cardboard to make a top and bottom to the triangle.
This was discovered as a more effective design during the 2020 US west coast fires.

Mel had thought maybe it would be - it had been kind of Santos to invite her to karaoke, and Mel thought they had fun screaming that Alanis Morrisette song together.Â
But itâs like it never happened. Santos is as bristly as ever, and when Mel floats the idea of getting some more of those chili fries they had the other night, she just says, "Yeah, no, I drank way too much. Not doing that again.â She doesn't even bother looking up from her computer screen.Â
2. Javadi and Whitaker share a look, and Mel catches it, which makes her wonder if there have been times when she hasnât.
She's been talking for a while, and sure, she's talking fast, and yeah, her hands are twisting - and Javadi's eyes slide to Whitaker and Whitaker's eyebrows go up, just a little.
Mel knows what that means.Â
3. Sheâd thought she might have better luck with Cassie, who is always nice to her.
But: "Oh - no, I can't," she says, before Mel has even finished asking if sheâd like to go check out that new bookstore across the street. "I've got Harrison."
"Right," Mel says. "Of course."
"Rain check," Cassie says, and she squeezes Mel's arm on her way past.
Cassie does have a kid. That's a real reason. It's just that the no came so fast.
4. Robby comes back from sabbatical smiling and saying good morning to everyone, and Mel is glad to see him.Â
But heâs more closed off than before, somehow. She tells him about the most interesting case she worked while he was gone but his eyes are somewhere beyond her and he doesnât react to the parts of the story that she thought he would.Â
She trails off and he claps her on the shoulder and says, "Good stuff.â
5. Frank has been getting happier every day.
Itâs not, like, completely linear - he still gets frustrated sometimes, and he really doesnât enjoy a few of the people they work with, but all things considered his mood has been trending upwards.Â
Theyâre at the lockers and sheâs taking her hair down. She's talking and heâs really listening, laughing and frowning in turn at all the right bits. She combs her fingers through her braid, and then fiddles with her hair tie after itâs all come loose.
"Hey," he says, looking at the maroon elastic between her fingers. "Could I have that? Sorry. That's weird. I just-â
"Sure," she says. He used to wear a black one on his wrist, for a few weeks after he came back to work, but he must have lost it. She would have given him one of hers sooner, if heâd asked.
She hands it over, and he just holds it for a second. Then he slips it onto his wrist and pushes it up, snug against his black beaded bracelet.
Heâs pleased: âHey, thanks. Itâll be nice to always have a bit of you around, you know?â
I got curious, so without looking up the reddit thread because I hate reddit, I went to the list of Barbie's careers. Because of course people have dated lists of those.
Her first 28 years are fairly tame, until we reach 1987's Canadian Mountie Barbie. Reasonable odds for a cop, even if they're not a USAmerican cop.
in 1991, we get US Air Force Pilot Barbie, US Marine Corps Sergeant Barbie, US Navy Petty Officer Barbie. There's also 1992's US Army Barbie, if those guys were feeling left out. I'm also ignoring the 1989 US Army Barbie because that one is 100% a stolen valour runway look, not a uniform.
Going to run my autism over those four.
US Navy Petty Officer Barbie is wearing quartermaster's rating insignia, so no combat for her.
US Army Barbie is wearing an airborne maroon beret with no rank insignia that I could see, but she's loaded down with medical supplies, so I'm gonna say combat medic, but only as many kills as her other medical endeavours.
US Air Force Pilot Barbie is wearing a jacket that looks like a Top Gun tie-in. The unit patch is just the USAF coat of arms, and the name patch says she's a Captain. VERY confusingly, the plane on the box art is an F-5, which had just recently been retired. But its USAF usage was almost all in the OPFOR Aggressor squadrons, which is... "come play enemy planes for our training exercises".
US Marine Corps Sergeant Barbie is wearing E-5 Sergeant's insignia, and three medals (she's in dress uniform). To my eye, and allowing for badly printed colours, looks like Navy and Marine Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, and the South West Asia Service Medal. The first two are fairly obvious "Barbie Is Well Behaved" stuff, but uh. That last one though?
USMC Barbie was in Desert Storm.
And if she was in a support role there, well, 1993 gave us USAmerican Cop Barbie. Case closed.

Framing âgirlâ and âboyâ as separate genders from âwomanâ and âmanâ is such an amazing take. itâs a framework that accommodates and explains so many trans experiences. Some trans people never were their AGAB. Some feel like they were their AGAB, but that that changed (usually when puberty hits, which is when you start âbecoming a man/womanâ. The accepted societal path is that girls grow up to into women, and boys grow up into men. But some girls grow up into men, and some boys grow up into women. This guy was a boy who grew up into a man, which generally works out pretty well for people. Some boys and girls grow up into people who arenât men or women, even! Itâs like this random cis guy skipped right over transgender 101, 102, 201, etc. and stumbled directly into Transgender Nirvana.
do you ever sit back and get so emotional over the women who came before us. they fought so hard just so i could wear comfy pants and buy nice things with my very own debit card and if i dont want to i will never be forced to cohabit with a man much less marry one. thank you so much i will never forget that you gave me the right to vote and be heard instead of just seen and because of you i can live this life i am eternally grateful for all you have done. may we never forget them and honor our foremothers by living this life that is only ours to decide to the fullest and use it to achieve the same freedoms for all women that dont have them yet <3
Here's some summer advice from a guy who worked in skincare:
-you need to wear sunscreen if youre going out in the sun. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. You don't need the expensive designer stuff but please just wear sun protection.
-you still need sunscreen if you are black or dark-skinned. Not only can you still sunburn, but direct UV light exposure also increases your risk of skin cancer, no matter how much melanin you have. There's tons of brands out there that are made for darker skin tones that don't leave that ashy finish behind, you just need to know the terms to look for. Look for the words "tinted, matte, mattifying," and shea butter-based sunscreens. There's also lots of brands that are formulated with your skin tone in mind. I don't have any to recommend unfortunately because I don't have experience needing that, but I know they are out there.
-if youre very hairy and cream sunscreens get caught in your body hair and glob up, get a spray sunscreen instead. It'll get in all the nooks and crannies instead of getting caught in your hair. Spray sunscreens are also good for those who have troubles with the effort and time it takes to put on sunscreen. Just make sure you spray it in a well ventilated area or, better yet, under cover outside, like on a porch or balcony.
-dont believe the fearmongering about chemical sunscreens. They're much more reliably protective than mineral sunscreens are. Thats because theyre chemically formulated in lab settings to be consistently protective and keep on shelves for long periods of time, while mineral sunscreens have a bad habit of ingredient separation and uneven formula mixes. Really, unless youre swimming directly in the great barrier reef or you have a specific skin condition or allergy to the ingredients in chemical sunscreens (the only customer i actually recommended our mineral sunscreen to over our chemical one was a regular who had skin cancer), you don't need a mineral sunscreen. Your wallet will also suffer less.
-you might have to double cleanse in the shower to get all sunscreen residue off your skin. Thats a good thing actually, it means your sunscreen is really good at barrier protection, but its also annoying. The way to do this without drying out your skin too much is by doing one quick cleanse of your skin with about half the soap you's typically use just to loosen up that residue and dirt, and then another deep, proper clean like you usually would that will get it all off. While leftover residue isn't really a health risk at all, it can clog your pores over time and cause uncomfortable acne breakouts, as well as trap dust and dirt under all the gunk. It can also get on your bedsheets.
-if you double cleanse, I recommend moisturizing after because it does dry you out a bit. You don't need a big fancy designer moisturizer either, just go to the drug store and get their basic pump bottle of body lotion, and separate facial moisturizer (the separation matters, the skin on your face is a lot more thin and delicate than the skin on your body). The main thing you want to look for with any product is that you arent allergic or sensitive to the active ingredients and avoid anything that uses alcohol as a binding ingredient.
-hats, hats, hats!! They keep the sun out of your eyes and your face!! You cant put sunscreen on your eyeballs!! Wear hats!!
-go have fun!! You can have your beach days and sun fun without cancer risks!!

This is an event entirely centered around putting Mel and Frank through angsty situations, so a trigger warning is definitely in place! Thereâs going to be some pretty dark content that comes out of this, so if thatâs not something you want to see then go ahead and block our blog and our tag!
We will be having Mel Misery Mondays and Frank Forlornness Fridays! These are just suggestions to inspire you (and because who doesnât love alliteration?). You do not need to choose Mel as your main subject for Monday and vice versa. These will be the days of the week that you upload your creations.
