You know one of the darkest details in the Percy Jackson books is the Cyclops cave with the pile of Camp Half-Blood T-shirts taken from campers who never made it home. Which is a bone chilling thing to include in a childrens book, but it could be worse.
Imagine a monsterās lair deep beneath the earth. The cavern is pitch black, and every step echoes. The floor is covered in something small that crunches under your boots. At first you assume itās gravel. Broken stone. Maybe bones.
Then someone manages to spark a little light.
You look down.
Theyāre not rocks.
Theyāre Camp Half-Blood beads.
A bead painted with Poseidonās trident. Another with Thaliaās pine tree. One with the labryinth. Years and years of camp memories scattered across the cavern floor, each bead once strung around the neck of a demigod who survived another summer⦠until they didnāt.
Hundreds of them.
Maybe thousands.
You realize every crunch youāve been hearing has been the beads from another camperās necklace breaking beneath your feet.
And before anyone can even process what theyāre looking atā¦
A low growl echoes through the darkness.
