The woman in the bathroom is trans and is scared that if she comes out of the stall the women that walked in will insult or harass her. but when she comes out they compliment her on her dress instead. The add ends with saying “stress tested for women.” It means Secret is including trans women in their definition of women.

I have reblogged this three times now, each one mentioning the fact that Secret not only included a trans woman, but that they /had the other women compliment her dress and treat her with respect/. I will reblog this every time I see it because it’s so important. More companies should involve trans people in their marketing - we do exist. Props to Secret for getting in on this movement. It makes me really happy to see more of the trans community represented in daily television.

An Online Arabic Dictionary Makes Its Debut

A computer science professor at Birzeit University has built an online tool called Arabic Ontology that is both a comprehensive dictionary of Arabic and a system that will enable the creation of new Arabic-language software, such as better machine translation.

The new tool, which is freely available for personal use at http://ontology.birzeit.edu/, was made public in a ceremony at Birzeit on September 25. The copyright is owned by Birzeit University.

New York City Just Passed a Gender-Neutral Birth Certificate Law

“New Yorkers should be free to tell their government who they are, not the other way around,” said Mayor DeBlasio.

[In October] “New York became the first city in the nation to pass a law offering gender-neutral birth certificates. The new policy will go into effect on January 1, 2019, and calls for the creation of a third gender marker — X — in addition to the current options of M and F.

The new law also mandates that people be allowed to choose their gender marker when applying for amended birth certificates, replacing a previous requirement that applicants provide letters from medical and mental health practitioners confirming their gender identity.

“New Yorkers should be free to tell their government who they are, not the other way around,” New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio said in a press release. “This new legislation will empower all New Yorkers — especially our transgender and gender nonbinary residents — to have birth certificates that better reflect their identity, and it furthers the City’s commitment to defending the rights of our LGBTQ community.”
