@bees-n-stuf
YOU GUYS ITâS DECEMBER 10TH YOU DONâT UNDERSTAND THIS HAS BEEN IN MY QUEUE SINCE FEBRUARY
you have the rest of the day to reblog this
Because this is apparently stick up for wolves day.
Wolf reintroduction in Yellowstone has changed the ecosystem *significantly*.
One remarkable thing that was not predicted that demonstrates how interlinked these things are:
Wolf eat elk.
Elk eat fewer willows.
Willows become healthier.
Number of beavers increase.
Number of songbirds increase.
Overall health of streams increases.
Number of fish increases.
Water table stabilizes.
This is called a âtrophic cascadeâ and we normally see them as bad things. But a positive trophic cascade is an amazing thing, and apparently nobody predicted this one.
What they didnât predict was that wolf predation would keep elk on the move so they wouldnât overgraze a specific area.
When the elk overgrazed the willows, they removed the best source of food for beavers during the winter.
Once that stopped happening, the beaver population rebounded and it turns out beavers are pretty good for the entire ecosystem.

These tweets are from Dara Kass. She's an MD. Please take her advice on how to deal with this current situation. Read. Take notes. Memorize it. And protect yourselves.

Good news for you, this August 23rd.
Itâs that time of year again.
Nice
Whoâs Alex?
Billboard demonstrating gender stereotypes as most people automatically assume that Alex is the boy.
Actually, Iâve studied design and advertising, and I can tell you that the reason people would look at this and immediately assume Alex is the boy is because, quite simply, the boy is the focal point of the ad.
English-speaking readersâ line of sight goes from left to right and up to down. This ad leads the viewer from the words MEET ALEX etc straight to the boy and then over and down to the girl. I didnât even notice there was a set of parenthesis with words in them in the ad until I looked the fourth time.Â
This is a fallacious confirmation bias, as anyone looking at it will assume Alex is the focal point (i.e. The Boy) and then if theyâre perceptive theyâll notice the words at the bottom. Aha! Those damn gender stereotypes gotcha again! Except no, because the ad literally forces you to read it as âAlex is the boyâ by the visual language and lines of sight.Â
A better ad would have been structured from top to bottom instead of left to right, and wouldnât have pushed the girl, the real subject of the ad (who, by the way, has been VISUALLY PUSHED OUT OF HER RIGHTFUL SPACE ON THE AD BY HER BROTHER) off to the corner as far away from her identifiers as possible.Â
Here, Iâll make you a better ad.
Bam. Shitty stock photo but you get the point. If anyone sees this and assumes Alex is the boy, they donât have the the ad layout to use as an excuse for their internalized gender shittery. Likewise, the ad isnât actively trying to make you read it a certain way and THEN making you feel guilty for interpreting it the way they designed it to be.Â
Holy fuck someone who actually understands design, sexism, and how they intersect? Yesssss
i love it when people misspell bawling and say that theyâre âballing their eyes outâ like ball so hard my motherfuckin eyes came out
I drew a comic of the funniest thing thatâs ever happened to me while playing among us. It was me, five of my friends, two randos (yellow and black) and this guy Pupu. He did not speak much English, called an emergency meeting to tell us he loved us, and in one round did THIS. We still have no idea how he knew, as Jacob hadnât killed anyone and we had only been playing for 15 seconds. I miss you Pupu you absolute madlad

Everyone talks about how Jesus drove the money changers and merchants out of the temple, but everyone glosses over the fact that he took the time to braid a whip. That would have taken a couple hours. I have braided leather before, and it takes a lot of time and effort. It may have even taken more than one day, all scripture says is, âAnd when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple-â there isnât a time period given. But I would still say it was at least a few hours. he had to braid multiple cords, bind them together, make a handle, and fix the cords to the handle.
The point of this is that what he did was NOT impulsive. It was cold and calculated. Premeditated even.
Iâm sorry I know this is a really great insight but all I can think of is Jesus sitting there making His whip and the apostles shuffling around nervously wondering whoâs about to get it
Thatâs some really nice braiding Jesus, but uh⌠why are you making a whip? I donât think Judasâ myrhhder joke was that bad.
