reading a “there was only one bed fic” and the characters have decided to share the bed as long as they stay on their sides. i’m really glad they figured that whole mess out and am excited to read about them staying on their sides of the bed until morning^-^

It’s very romantic to imagine that the Bronze Age collapse happened due to the mysterious sea people but I personally like the theory that a lot of these complicated civilizations fell apart due to overcomplicated bureaucracy imploding in on itself.

Systems collapse theory as the cause for the Bronze Age collapse is crazy to me because imagine you live in a local post apocalypse among the ruins of ancient stone palaces and walls so large that the old stories say they were built by giants and you’re in this situation because the resources to maintain the layers of trading partnerships and accountants and administrators and whatnot just got too big. Death by poor administration.

It’s possible that some of the sea people might’ve been refugees that left after some of these systems collapse. Either looking for places to settle or pirating.

We’ll never know for sure if that’s true or not but it’s not within the realm of impossibility.

Also I’m tempted to write a short story about a former mid level administrator from a destroyed Mycenaean palace complex turning to piracy. I think that would be cool.

Also gonna say: I see a lot of people who clearly feel as though their feelings of happiness or relief make them a bad person. Who feel as though celebrating any death makes them bad, because 'violence begets violence' or something vague about how violence is always bad.

And I need you all to know that 1) fascism has never been defeated without the use of violence and 2) 'violence begets violence' is always, for some reason, directed towards the people who the first violence was against. It's never against the people who inflicted the violence to begin with. So yeah, they begat violence in response to their violence. Boo hoo.

I was skeptical at first, but that's actually real. Nyan Cat for the Commodore VIC-20 by Javier Gonzalez requires an 8K RAM expansion, and it pulls some really creative tricks to get more than 8 colors of the pallet usable, but this one is legit. I downloaded and tested the .prg myself in the VICE emulator, and now I gotta try it out on a real machine. Mad respect.

i think all the women through out history who were financially pushed into marriage and motherhood because they had no other options is sad and tragic too but socially something we will never be able to reckon with because we can’t come to terms with the fact some women don’t want to be mothers

For the first time in my tenure on tumblr, it's "THAT'S A PHOTOGRAPH?" and not "THAT'S AN OIL PAINTING?"

ao3 tagging isn’t always intuitive and some tags are highly subjective but some are really really not. If I see “mutual baby trapping” I’m expecting two people in a situationship who’d rather engage in absurd manipulations and shenanigans to obtain a baby rather than communicate clearly “hey I want to be serious with you”; if they’re *already talking about marriage and kids* then it’s not babytrapping. If I see Underage I am expecting at least one Mrated scene with a minor, not “two teens kiss but don’t even get to second base”. If I see the big Rape/Noncon tag and then the authors note says “the Rape tag is cause they have sex while A is slightly drunk” then I am backing out of the fic and never trusting your tagging again!

Like! Tagging is for two populations—the people who explicitly want to see X and the people who explicitly don’t want to see X—and neither population is served by overtagging! If there was a fic tagged, idk, “Swedish Politics” because in one throwaway line someone mentions Sweden has political parties, I’d be upset if I was looking for Swedish Politics and this was all that came up. And I’d be just as upset if I was filtering out fics with Swedish Politics and missed the perfect fic that was overtagged!

I wonder how many people understand that these are two separate things happening in different times. One is Caine coming more and more into existence and discovering the obsolete unused brain scans, and the other is Caine gaining access to the random WiFi hotspot that just appeared temporarily (as they often do) nearby. They’re both moments of self discovery which is why we cut back and forth between them, but they are undoubtedly not happening at the same time.

I worry people might think these are congruent events and be confused why Scratch suddenly appears in the circus but is never seen again afterwards. That was them showing how Caine used his powers to figure out how to use the brain scans. It was a flashback. And it’s juxtaposed to him using his powers to learn more about the outside world and about the remaining circus members.
