But why the 1989 hate?
Simple, my dear anon. I dislike 1989 because it came out directly after RED and capitalism.
my all time favorite album is RED and before that, it was Speak Now. These two albums made me realize that Taylor is a brilliant songwriter, she has the ability to connect with people just by words. There's a reason why we all decided that All Too Well is her best song because it made everyone who heard feel like they're going through their first real heartbreak, ( even if they hadn't been in a relationship yet ). RED is also that rare album that has at least four different types of music on it going from country to rock to file to pop. Speak Now is technically pop but more " classical ". Taylor really shown that she is a force to reckon with and then RED lost AOTY. It was obvious that it hurt her deeply because she worked so hard on it and she didn't win a single Grammy and was ridiculed of her All Too Well performance so she decided to create the greatest album of her career so far.
1989 is the album that finally got people to take her seriously and was received as her greatest album yet, even getting a cover album by Ryan Addams and winning three Grammys. However, if you remember what 2015 was like then you would know that the only way you could listen to it was to either buy it on iTunes or a physical copy and every 15 second video from tour was taken down for copyright so you couldn't listen to even watch any performance of literally any songs legally which if you didn't have iTunes, you were screwed. Even worse was the fact that the 1989 world tour was only on iTunes ( at the time ) and if you got the three month free trial, it'd expire around the time the New Romantics video had dropped and I believed that you had to pay to watch it? Paying to watch a four minute edit of a tour movie that came out three months before? No. Just no.
Now I do not hate the songs on the album, I love them but I hate the album because Taylor seemed like she had disowned her previously albums in favor of 1989, every person on earth had praised it as the greatest pop album ever and the greedy capitalism of the entire era!! I hate 1989 and the whole era because I was 16 when it came out and because I had no job and refuse to ask my parents to buy it for me because I didn't want to be anymore on a financial burden on them. This was the era when you needed MONEY where all the merch prices went up along with tickets. I hate 1989 because it changed everything.
Today Taylor is back on Spotify and even put Lover on YouTube for all to listen and I know it was probably BMR's fault for all the capitalist ideas but but 2014-2016 was awful for swifties. I'm sorry for the rant and I hope you have a good day/night, ( depending when you read this. )
