I'm so sorry to do this again. If you saw my earlier post, you'll have seen my cousin, Tea, passed away at around 2:47 p.m yesterday. They are now with their mother and sister that they lost earlier this year. Tea hadn't been doing well the past few week and I sort of had a feeling but I didn't want to believe it would be a possibility as I have been trying to care for them as best as I could. I was able to get the landlord to agree to allow my uncle (their father) to stay with me as he was currently staying with Tea's old neighbor. A funeral director called me and we looked at choices for burial as Tea didn't leave a will and their father has not been responsive and has become nonverbal overthe past week. The cheapest option I was given was cremation for $695 and that was with everything included. My job has me working 12 hours a week currently with no other openings available so clearly I can't afford that. Tea's father had spent the last of his money covering his wife's funeral a few months back. I've also now have Tea's cat in addition to my 3 and my dog. I literally do not have any money.

When it asks you about your interests, pick "health and wellness" and/or the religion of your choice and fill the rest in with whatever you like. See how long it takes the algorithm to give you straight up cult recruitment videos.
When I tried this on TikTok I got some in under 30 seconds.
this is important information but i also feel like a lot of people aren’t really able to identify cult-produced media on their own. here is a (non comprehensive) list of red flags for this:
presenting an image of a wholesome, good, unified in-group while simultaneously presenting the out-group as shameful, dirty, or evil
presenting the narrative “i would be dead if i didn’t join X”
bragging about adhering to high-control rules, such as restriction of sleeping, eating, or ability to leave
heavy emphasis placed on “retreats,” aka trauma bonding or brainwashing members en masse in a secluded area
spiritual leader (typically a living person, or often in the case of older cults, a board of directors) presented as an infalliable extension of god
“comfort zones” and similar concepts presented as an inherently bad thing that you need to overcome
constant recruitment efforts
public faces of the organization are typically extremely extroverted and physically abled, and there’s a spoken or unspoken shame placed on the group members who don’t resemble this
there is an ex-member community that insists the group should be acknowledged as a cult (search for “ex-[group name]” or “[group name] abuse” to find relevant online pages)
ppl who oppose gender affirming care for kids are nuts like the extent of medical intervention for trans kids is maybe puberty blockers but they’ll still be like “SO UR SAYING WE SHOULD LET TODDLERS HAVE TOP SURGERY???????” barbara toddlers do not have a top to surgery

I am super against light pollution, and have been for decades
but I am also super annoyed by the way it's framed as "without light pollution you can see how beautiful the night sky is" way more prominently than it's framed as "hey, did you ever stop to think of how much energy/resources/money are literally wasted by having so much light shine up into the sky?"
so people get the idea that light pollution can only be remedied by eliminating all night-time light, which would make being outside at night very inconvenient, instead of by making night-time light shine only on the ground where, y'know, the people who need it are

i think the debate about mental illness and violence kinda looks over the fact that psychiatry can, in fact, decide anything it wants is “mental illness” and if they say violent behavior can be a symptom of mental illness then… it is. these diagnoses are far from scientific and like, they already focus on criminal conviction as a sign of aspd which should be concerning since the types of crimes that are usually prosecuted are usually primarily associated with marginalization and poverty. the answer to the question “can mental illness cause violent behavior” should be “maybe, but there is no inherent validity to any of these diagnoses–people have brains and behaviors, and psychiatry assigns them labels based on behaviors observed to be commonly comorbid. the line between “normal brain, normal behavior” and “abnormal brain, abnormal behavior” is entirely socially constructed. the question we should ask: who does it benefit, and who does it hurt, if violence can be (and it already is) a symptom of mental illness.”
