i have understood so many things about online leftist culture by the fact that when i said "your local community has people you will morally and politically disagree with but you cannot lock them out of accessing any tangible service youāre organising" one of the tags responding said "this isnāt about proshippers in here youāre not welcome" like. folks. focus with me. some of us are homeless here.
There's a disconnect happening here because the primary function of social media for most casual users is to form a circle of friends around the usual things that friendships are built on: shared interests and lifestyles and ideas of what is important and what is unacceptable. When people are mainly doing leftism on social media, this encourages thinking of leftism as centered around establishing high-minded social clubs.
For anyone who still isn't getting it from someone who helps people IRL: There's a difference between whom you're helping to feed at the mealshare and whom you're choosing to hang out with for fun after the mealshare. You don't have to invite a hungry person with opinions you don't like to play board games with you, but you do have to help keep them from starving if you're serious about leftist organizing.

Has this been done yet
Edit: was not expecting this to blow up, and I've seen some people mistake this as an original idea, so here is the original post this is based on
"This crystal is good for such-and-such organ!" oh yeah name 3 of that organ's functions
"This will cleanse your body of toxins" Oh? Which ones? What are their names? Why are they bad for you? What symptoms do they cause?
This is the only good addition to this post

āBecause the truth is, tech doesnāt have an image problem. It doesnāt have a message problem. It has an intention problem. Whatās wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasnāt successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. Whatās wrong is that heās trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product thatās designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isnāt that you havenāt told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.ā

Everyone should be aware of nitter.net
for any address to twitter you can replace the āx.comā with ānitter.netā and you will be able to browse as if you have an account. Lifesaver.
Similarly, imginn.com works for most Instagram addresses. I still havenāt found one for Facebook.
in grade 12 we were reading romeo and juliet and we were at the romantic-ass balcony scene and this hot girl in the class volunteered to read julietās parts and i put up my hand to volunteer for another part and the teacher goesĀ āoh do you want to be the nurse, amanda?ā and i was likeĀ āno i wanna be romeoā and the hot girl swiveled around in her seat to give me a Lookā¢
she and i later ended up making out at a bunch of parties in university lmfao
in retrospect this moment was absolutely pivotal to my butch awakening but it was also just a lesbian power move
I too got a girlfriend over this play. In grade 10, I was reading the balcony scene to study with two other people (one guy and one beautiful girl) and I insisted point blank I had to read as romeo, because he had the most lines and Iām a dramatic little shit.
So the other two in my group are used to my antics by now. Weāre all friends, so the pair of them decide that the one guy in our group gets to be the nurse. Now, my Juliet and I have been friends for a couple months by this point, so I decide to be a little more dramatic.
We put Juliet on a spinny chair, and pump it up as tall as it goes, and my baby, closeted lesbian ass crouches on the floor, ready to be as melodramatic as possible. Like, Iām about to do a rendition that makes William himself walk into the class and tell me to take it back a notch or twelve.
And then I look up.
And holy shit.
There she is, Juliet, haloed in the worst fluorescent light known to mortals across the globe. Light just streaming down around her, that weird off-green colour that it always is. And sheās the most beautiful girl Iāve ever seen. My little gay soul is barely holding on as the words barely leave my lips, breathlessly. āBut soft⦠what light from yonder window breaks?ā
And Juliet was the sun. Romeo was not exaggerating that line at all.
Juliet and I have also been together for more than 4 years now. Sheās every bit as spectacular as she was when I was a lovestruck teenage Romeo, kneeling on the yellowed linoleum floor of second block english.
Lady in drive through had a bearded dragon sitting on her boobs and she held it up and let me pet it. killing myself canceled
art is not my strong suit but this is my best recreation of what i saw when i opened the window. i have to emphasize that she was supermodel levels of gorgeous
when I was in high school I had a literature teacher who had a policy of unlimited extra credit. All you had to do was read a book by a notable author (his discretion) and have a little chat with him after school to prove that you read it. No limits, no need for variety (one month I decided I really loved Kurt Vonnegut and just read everything of his I could get my hands on).
Yes, I was tearing through books constantly, and talking to this teacher at least weekly. Because even though I always loved reading as a kid, literature was always a very weak subject for me in terms of a teaching-to-standardized-test school setting (I just do awful on "what color were the curtains" type multiple choice questions. Those details don't stick in my memory THEY JUST DON'T). But that didn't matter for this class. I could just read my way out of any bad test score. I have always had fond memories of how I "fudged" my way through that class and "abused' the extra credit policy.
I was thinking about it again today, and only just now realized that he absolutely tricked me into being well-read, while my teenage self thought I was totally getting away with something. THAT MOTHERFUCKER. I hope he's doing well.
I've been starting a rewatch of Leverage since I got the dvd set as a gift. I got to the second episode, The Homecoming Job, and I forgot about a quote that the mark, the ceo of a private military contractor, has as at one point (paraphrased):
"Getting a candidate into office is only about $15 grand and the incumbancy rate is 90%, meaning you get 18-20 years out of them. In this day and age, a US Congressman is one of the best investments a corporation can make."
I'd like to be able to say the writers were baing a bit on the nose with having the bad guy say that, but I could absolutely see some AI tech bro saying that word for word.
(anyway, go watch Leverage. It's very cathartic seeing a heist show for taking down CEOs and other rich assholes. And the whole show is free on youtube)
Girls Scouts encounter Bigfoot the most frequently. Part of their oath is to keep him a secret because heās very kind and makes up 30% of their revenue due to his fervent love for thin mints.
As a Girl Scout leader, I am telling you that this is NOT true, and any former girl scout that says it is, should think about what they are saying and what oaths they may have sworn in the past
still thinking about hardison and that fucking painting. the old nate painting
Where is Old Nate?
Old Nate painting taken down from Leverage office wall so as not to make Sophie sad
"Hardison, this thing cannot be in my pantry, get it out of here"
Reverse heist where Parker places it on display in the British Museum
Records changed to make it look like it was wrongly identified as early work by someone who later became intensely famous and respected, and like a lot of money was paid for it
Assorted experts in colonized countries alerted to embarrassing "mistake"
General mockery ensues throughout the art world
Press joins in general mockery
Parker steals painting BACK along with a few other minor artifacts (that happen to quietly find their way back to rightful owners)
British Museum reports actual thefts, is accused of trying to run an insurance scam as no one would take notoriously fake painting
Painting mysteriously appears in background shot of tech billionaire's home interview
Immediate trending topic + virulent online mockery of billionaire's horrible taste
Billionaire doesn't go to jail, but suffers massive reputational damage for unprovable but highly suspicious link to art theft / scam
Billionaire's stock plummets, potentially lucrative deal to buy social media site falls through as result
Painting goes missing AGAIN
At this point every rich person with an art collection is terrified of being linked to the theft
Numerous stolen / looted art items preemptively returned
Meanwhile, painting reappears in Eliot's pantry
Dammit, Hardison!
Repeat.
#im LAUGHING Nate would be proud#itās the ot3ās way of coping at first (heās still there with them!!) but then he becomes a con of his own#hardison toasting old Nate with āāand you said there were no new playsāā#parker talks to old Nate during the reverse heist/heists#eliot grumbles about old Nate in the pantry but will prop him on the counter and set out a small glass of brandy for old times sake#Nate might be gone but heāll always be there with them (@thecookiemonster77ā) ;-;
Googled something about quick hydration and it suggested big jug of water, couple tbsp pickle juice, dash of lime juice.
Its surprisingly tasty????
Pleased to report that after a day of this i am not longer craving caper brine and my mouth is not dry as usual. There's some good suggestions in the notes too that I want to try.

when two musicians sing into the same microphone and lean in very close to each other⦠like omg are you guys gonna kiss now to relieve the homoerotic tension?š³
THIS IS NOT ABOUT ONE DIRECTION I DONāT KNOW WHO THIS āHARRYā PERSON IS GO WATCH BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND CLARENCE CLEMONS KISS ON STAGE RIGHT NOW
op is the only valid person iāve ever met. everyone else needs to come to the light
Okay, but this is really important: Bruce Springsteen occupied this really weird place in music history. His songs were all from this pessimistic, nihilistic view of an America that had let him down:
Just like the anti-Vietnam War protest songs that we associate with the 1960s, or the early nihilism that spawned punk music in the 1970s. But he didnāt *sound* like a punk anarchist; he sounded like a country rock singer. When he released Born in the U.S.A. people completely misinterpreted (or possibly ignored) the lyrics in favor of the tone of the music.
Politicians used his music to promote their āMurica Yes! brand, and he had to literally explain that that was not what he was about. Heās over here asking when weāre going to have jobs and heathcare, not stanning the politicians who werenāt helping the people.
It was also kind of a big deal that he had an integrated band, because even as late as the 1980s music was still kind of segregated and MTV was straight up racist. They refused to play and promote black artists and then claimed that were no black artists in the first place. Michael Jacksonās record company had to threaten a boycott of their white artists to get MTV to play his Thriller video.
Plus, the first black/white interracial kiss on TV was in 1968 (OG Star Trek). Also it took us until the 70s to get sympathetic gay characters on screen, and the 90s to get gay characters to kiss onscreen. And all of those firsts were met with outrage.
So keep that in mind when you see Bruce Springsteen not just playing with an interracial band, but engaging in an interracial, gay kiss on stage repeatedly.
Passages from American Popular Music by Larry Starr and Christopher Waterman
I used to think that Bruce and Clarence kissing onstage was exuberance, showmanship, and telling racist homophobes to fuck off. Like, they picked up a certain kind of audience and went āRacist homophobes? Not in our house!ā And started the kissing then but then I actually looked it up and
https://www.gq.com/story/this-fucked-me-up-bruce-springsteen-singing-about-clarence-clemons
It was a story where⦠we remade the city. We remade the city, shaping it into the kind of place where our friendship and our love for one another wouldnāt have been such an exceptional thing. - Bruce Springsteen
It wasnāt about showmanship or rejecting bigots or anything it was just. Damn right that was one of the loves of his life and damn right he was going to kiss him onstage
It gets me a little that Bruce has had a divorce, that heās been married twice, but he loved Clarence for the rest of Clarenceās life and will presumably love him the rest of his own
Clemons said in one interview. āBruce and I looked at each other and didnāt say anything, we just knew. We knew we were the missing links in each otherās lives. He was what Iād been searching for.ā In another version of the story, Clemons says āHe looked at me, and I looked at him, and we fell in love.ā
Iām having some emotions about it!
āHe was elemental in my life,ā Springsteen adds, āand losing him was like losing the rain.ā
Not just! I love you pure and deep and true but! I am going to love you like that in front of the whole damn world!
We have fewer narratives about taking risks and making statements for platonic love rather than romantic and supposedly it would be easier to downplay this onstage than romance and! They refused! They fucking refused! In front of hundreds of thousands of people, over the course of years! In the spotlight, in word and deed, I love you!
God Iām not okay about it
Now Iām mad that this is not among any of the things I was ever told about this artist.
I knew about this in general (& via all those fabulous photos), but this just adds even more beautiful context <3
Just to add to the pile: this was the cover of Springsteenās break-through album Born to Run, in 1975:
I mean, will you LOOK at this:
This was the pic chosen for the album cover from an extensive photoshoot, too. A few others:
Thereās a lot more online if you search. Theyāre all pretty amazing. But the photographer is right, the one chosen for the album cover just pops.
a vampire's long term fwbb (friend with blood benefits) making an idle remark about how it was a struggle to handle the aphrodisiac in the bite venom for the first while but now they're used to it and know to expect it and the vampire saying "hey um. so I don't have any bite venom. like at all."
