I’m really sick of seeing people hate on Nancy for saying that due to her experience caring for special needs children she knows that she personally could not be a good parent to a special needs child while still accomplishing her goals. She never said “autistic people are a burden.” She was making an informed judgment about her own character and abilities, not a generalization about a group of people. It is WAY BETTER to be realistic about yourself when considering having a kid than it is to ignore what you know about yourself and get into a situation where you’re going to needlessly hurt a child who never asked to be yours. Once again tumblr really struggles with nuance. Part of the extremely vital basis for reproductive autonomy is that you get to choose whether or not to have a child no matter what your reason is. Your reason does not need to pass a purity test.
