They should have made Eleven lose all her powers, that could have made a metaphor that "Eleven" the abused girl and the lab girl "dies", but Jane survives, her new life, a girl that wants to explore the world and experience life. That would have been a very symbolic way of ending the circle of abuse.

Either Willel or Elmax needed the “you understand me better than anyone” resolution, not Mileven.
