I work with the homeless population, a lot of them are Indigenous. We are in Northern Ontario, in a rural area. Wanna know how many of my female clients have been/are being sex trafficked?

All of them. So have a lot of my male clients when they were young. And I see the long lasting damage daily. Drug use, alcohol abuse, self harm, suicide attempts, cognitive damage (many of them have been beaten/hit on the head/choked), inability to connect to other humans anymore, and permanent scarring from physical abuse.

The age most of them started being trafficked? 12-14. And their parents/grandparents were the first pimps, for most of them.

They weren't "good" at sex. They didn't "go pro". They were raped and abused for the financial benefit of older people taking advantage of them. I have a woman I work with who has had three confirmed pregnancies, all three conceived through sexual assault. She has a developmental disability, she functions at the same level as a 7 year old. She isn't able to fully comprehend what happened to her body.

I read a booktok novel this month for a book club I'm in. I was too aghast to hear people say they only read the dialogue. Until I read one of these titles myself. And I had to do the same thing to finish the book

The prose is so low quality that it's devoid of any meaning- the only semblance of meaningful, narrative information comes from the dialogue. There is no book in the book. The books are essentially boneless.

They hate the descriptions because they are genuinely bad and have zero creative or intellectual value. You can know everything that's happening in the book without reading any descriptions, and only about 5% of the narration.

In the book I read, the author often gives critical character and narrative information in a single sentence, "Jessica has always been a bitch". And then the rest of Jessica's character appearance in the narrative is her saying bitchy things, bitchly. All of the words in between Jessica speaking in scenes are just tiresome, uninspired repetitions of what you already know (because you were literally already told in a single sentence)- Jessica is a bitch. It goes like this: The author, in a single sentence at the beginning of the book: jessica is bitch The dialogue: Jessica saying over-the-top bitchy things, but with some things that move the story forward sprinkled in between The description: "Jessica rolled her eyes, bitchly" In sum, the prose is essentially like being bludgeoned over the head with extremely dull, repetitive information. Of course, they hate reading it. It's only rational. All the elements of writing craft have been stripped and sucked of all nutrients- literally, the only thing you have to hold onto is the dialogue (which is also dull, but that's where the narrative exists).
