the cops literally let them in
we may not have been able to save brandon. but the fight is far from over.
this is dustin john higgs.
in 1996, he was convicted of kidnapping and murdering three women and was sentenced to death.
this conviction is entirely false. he didnāt murder anybody.
he has been found not guilty of the crime. at this point, the only reason he remains in jail is because he was at the scene of the crime. the court also claims that he bullied willis hayes, the man who actually did murder the three women, into killing them. however, willis hayes has come forward and has admitted that dustin DID NOT commit the crime, and heās also even confessed that dustin never bullied him into murdering the trio of women. but the court wonāt accept it.
DUSTIN JOHN HIGGS IS SCHEDULED TO BE EXECUTED ON JANUARY 15, 2021. HE IS GOING TO BE EXECUTED FOR A CRIME HE DID NOT COMMIT AT ALL. WE CANāT LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN.
To get Dustin John Higgs off death row

so i recently found out that the change.org petitions wonāt really make a difference because they arenāt legally binding. however, i found another petition that, if it gets enough signatures, will make it to the u.s. department of justice and by law, government officials have to legally overlook it.
Dustin Higgsā was convicted and sentenced to the federal death penalty as an accomplice to the 1996 murders of Tanji Jackson, Tamika Black a
THIS PETITION CAN ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING. CONTINUE TO SIGN THE CHANGE.ORG PETITION, BUT ALSO SIGN THIS ONE AS WELL
hello !!! brandon bernard is a black man scheduled to be executed on 12/10 for a crime he was convicted of when he was eighteen, and his own jurors and warden believe he should not be executed. if you go to this website (coded by this wonderful girl!) it will generate a unique email template that you can send to your senators, representatives, and the department of justice. it takes less than five minutes to do so please do your part to help!

STOP ICE FROM POISONING IMMIGRANTS!
Help stop the gassing of Immigrants!!
We need to do more than sign a petition. Don't shut up about this.
Hey, followers?
Don't scroll past this.
There are people in the notes saying this isnāt a gassing and itās ājustā a disinfectan0 being sprayed on surfaces to avoid covid, and people are ājustā having allergic reactions to it
https://dandymeowth.tumblr.com/post/619934243092561920/your-url-is-problematic-odddior-i-know
That post explains better what this chemical is and what is going on.
āThe guards are spraying this disinfectant in retaliation for the report [that revealed the deplorable health conditions in detention centers]. To be clear - HDQ is an industrial-strength disinfectant, which according to the manufacturer is āharmful if inhaledā and ācauses severe skin burns and serious eye damage.ā The guards are spraying it on everything every 15-30 minutes, according to sources, and immigrants in the center have already experienced severe symptoms including blisters, rashes, bleeding, fainting, breathing difficulties, headaches, stomach pain, and nausea. ā
Itās not just allergic reactions. Thatās a severe misunderstanding of what disinfectants do and a refusal to acknowledge how serious this is and WHY people are freaking out.
No, theyāre not literally being gassed in the grandiose (gore-iose?) way youād think of - being shoved into an iron chamber like animals that then is filled with gas that melts their skin... But they are still being forced to into small areas with harmful fumes and surfaces covered in chemicals that are made to eat living matter.
If you had to be in a room for days and weeks with bleach or peroxide all over everything, you donāt need to be allergic to start having severe reactions. Cleaning chemicals say to use protective gear and ventilate the area for a REASON.
This is really not okay. It wasnāt okay before, and now itās worse than it was.
I work as a university custodian. This is the chemical weāre using to sanitize surfaces weāve cleaned due to coronavirus. Weāre not supposed to spray it directly on any surfaces. We spray it onto a cloth and then wipe surfaces with it. Itās supposed to dry before people come into contact with those surfaces. Once it dries on water fountains itās rinsed off (I donāt know if it actually does anything to rinse it off when itās already dried but thatās the procedure - we have to let it dry to make sure itās had enough time to kill virus particles). Thatās in university buildings with extra ventilation that are sanitized twice a day. This is horrifying.
iām so fucking tired

Just to be perfectly fucking crystal clear ā
IF DEMOCRATS WIN CONTROL OF THE SENATE, MITCH McCONNELL CANNOT DO THE SAME EGREGIOUSLY EVIL BULLSHIT HEāS BEEN PULLING SINCE FOREVER.
If Democrats win control of the Senate, they can finally push forward a better healthcare plan, among other important pieces of legislation that will guide the United States to a more progressive and equitable future. The GOP is so partisan that they would rather see us lose our healthcare altogether during a global pandemic than allow a Democratic healthcare plan to pass. They proved that in this past year.
Democrats just need 2 more seats to hold the majority with VP Kamala Harris as the tiebreaker. There are 2 seats up for grabs in the run-off election.
You do the math.
Listen, the presidential race would not have been this close if more young voters had voted. If every young person in America had voted, Biden would have likely swept the election. We HAVE that power, Millennials and Gen Z together. But we didnāt use it. Now Georgia is giving some of us a second chance.
Please do not get complacent, even though it looks as though Biden is going to win. The GOP is still that same party full of sycophantic and opportunistic narcissists who old white republicans put in power, even without Trump to bow and kowtow to. They will pull the same shit they always have. Soā¦
VOTE.
Because, as a wise man once said, the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
Fucking ratify the ERA. Flip the senate!!!
GEORGIA VOTERS, LISTEN TO ME.
Over 1,500 ballots in GA have been rejected and we are SO CLOSE to turning the state blueāevery vote counts. If you did a mail-in or absentee ballot, go check that it was counted. If itās been rejected, you can call the GA Voter Protection Hotline at 1-888-730-5816.
Right now, every single vote counts. Check on your ballot and make sure it was accepted.
UPDATE: There is only a .2% difference right now. We are mere thousands from turning Georgia blue. If your ballot has been rejected and you donāt want to deal with it because itās a lot of work for ājust one voteā please know that your one vote is extremely close to flipping a very red state blue.
You guys. As of 7:00PM EST, the margin in Georgia is literally 3,000 ballots. Itās gone down 6k in the last hour. Weāre at less than 0.1%. Go check your ballot
Check history, this is literally what the Nazis did!
anyone with a ātrump 2020ā² campaign flag/poster/ecc is openly saying āyes im okay with all of that even if im not actively supporting it im going to excuse that as acceptableā and honestly what can you say about someone who sees all of that as acceptable?

HEāS LITERALLY TARGETING USPS IN BLUE AREAS WHERE HE LOST THE LAST ELECTION
If you feel unsafe about voting in person (because, yāknow, weāre in the middle of a goddam pandemic) but now fear the USPS will be unable to deliver a āmail-inā ballot in a timely fashionā¦.
1. Request a mail-in ballot.
2. Do not mail it.
3. Google your supervisor of elections to see where you can drop off your mail-in ballot. Itās usually NOT THE POLLING PLACE.
All states allow this! Here is what youāre accomplishing by doing this:
1. Your ballot gets in on time no matter what happens to the USPS.
2. You donāt have to worry about standing in long lines and risking infection. Youāre just stopping by to drop it off.
3. You voted! Hooray! I have no doubt Trump and his supporters are doing to try to call into question the legitimacy of mail-in voting (which is more enthusiastically embraced by Democratic supporters, especially now.)
Also, when you drop it off, find out how to track it online to make sure it is verified. California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado have systems that can track your ballot just like tracking a package from Amazon.
All CA vote centers (which are open for weeks to a month before election day) have ballot drop-off boxes too! Many government buildings have them as well, so thereās no need to wait until election day when itās crowded to drop them off. The list of drop-off sites is always posted on each countyās voter info website.
This is important! This election is crucial! Get out and vote! We! Cannot! Afford! To! Get! Complacent! This year, every vote matters!

important reminder:
while (thankfully) trump doesnāt have the power to delay the election, the fact that he wants to should terrify every american to their core. there are two choices on the ballot this november: democracy and fascism. thatās it. thatās the choice. i donāt give a shit how you feel about biden. you have to vote for him anyway. vote blue down ballot. the constitution literally might not survive a second trump term.
if you donāt vote for biden, you are complicit in everything trump does going forward. a vote for a third party candidate is a vote for trump. a joke write-in is a vote for trump. staying home is a vote for trump. you have to vote for biden even if you donāt live in a swing state. we have to have a large enough margin of victory that itās harder for trump to contest the results. you have to vote.
democracy or fascism. thatās the choice.
Hey all y'all Americans out there please keep this in mind, make sure your votes count and oust the cheeto from the White House
Vote Blue
I cannot emphasize enough, museums/zoos/aquariums and the like are at an incredibly dangerous point right now, and itās breaking my heart that not only is it happening, but itās happening so much more quietly than it deserves. The main people I have seen sharing information about the crisis museums are in right now are others in the field, and while I know itās not out of malicious ignorance, because people love these places and donāt want to see them gone, itās scary that these places are dying with so much less fanfare than some of the other institutions threatened by the current situation in the US.
I came across an article from NPR the other day suggesting that unless something changes, ONE-THIRD of museums in the entire country (a loose term that includes certain places like aquariums as well) could be dead before the end of the year (source). A third! Can you even imagine the incalculable loss? And it goes so far beyond the services museums generally provide to the public, like field trips or a place to go on the weekends ā not that those arenāt important. But museums do so much more than that. If these places die, where do their collections go? Often thereās no one else who can take them in, and as someone who has spent a significant amount of time in the bellies of museum collections, most people have no idea how many specimens or artifacts would become homeless and in danger of being lost forever. In the case of zoos and aquariums, what happens to their animals? Another friend of mine mentioned on Facebook the other day that the Aquarium of the Pacific is not only in dire need right now, but that a person they know who works with them has said that if they close, theyāll have to euthanize a significant number of their animals. And for the places that do survive, they wonāt be unchanged. The science museum I used to work for isnāt in danger of permanently closing ā yet ā but still had make the incredibly difficult call to do a 39% reduction in staff positions, meaning that even when they reopen, the jobs that I and over a hundred and fifty people held before the pandemic ā educating, running programs, engaging with visitors on an extra personal level ā wonāt exist anymore. Another friend of mine doing a museum studies degree has said that even the Smithsonian (the SMITHSONIAN) had to make a similar call and many of her friends doing work there are now jobless.
Your local museum isnāt getting help from the government. Museums, zoos, and aquariums have had to beg desperately for stimulus money that hasnāt manifested. These are non-profits, that rely on revenue from visitors and memberships for the most part, and as they are responsibly staying closed for everyoneās safety, they arenāt getting visitors. Without some form of help, they are going to drop off the face of the planet, or appear at the other end of this as gutted shells of their former selves.Ā
If you want to help, you have two options: get money into the hands of these places directly, or put pressure on your representatives to offer museums and other institutions like them some kind of federal stimulus money. If you can afford it, this is a great time to get a membership to a place you love ā many of them are even offering special online programming for members, so itās more than just a donation. Or you could make a donation, if thatās a more practical amount for you to spend, because at this point anything helps. And if you canāt do that (or even if you can), yell at your senators and representatives to do something. Many places even are offering guidelines for the sorts of things to talk about, like this script from the Monterey Bay AquariumĀ (although repetitive scripts are less likely to have an impact than individual e-mails, something is still better than nothing, and you could even read over it to figure out how to formulate your own message).
Iām not usually one to beg people to signal boost something, but itās breaking my heart that this issue is being ignored. Every day it feels like I have to explain these places are struggling to someone else who didnāt know it was a problem, and while I donāt blame them for not knowing, I want people to know. I want people to be aware that we are at risk of losing some of our most valuable cultural and educational institutions, not find our after all this is over that theyāre gone. Please talk with people you know about whatās going on. We need our museums. And right now, they need us too.
Went to the Aboriginal artifact exhibit in Chicago. And itās interesting. How many blankets and masks and totem poles say āunknown sourceā, because every five seconds my mom would stop and point to something and say. āPaulineās grandmother made that,ā or, āThat belongs to Mikeās family, I should call himā because. Itās all stolen
āThese artifacts were excavated by archaeologists from a burial site in the 1970ās. The remains were returned for reintermentā Okay cool, cool cool. So you just, like. Dug up the grave of a respected family member, stripped them naked, mailed their body back to their family and kept everything they were lovingly put to rest in. Like a graverobbing bastard
Reminds me of the time when of the elders from my hometown started touching a totem pole in the Museum of Anthropology out at UBC and got yelled at by the staff, only to tell him that the pole had been stolen off of the front of her bighouse when she was ten years old.
Museum collectors did the equivalent of kidnapping a family member when they were away fishing.
The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act requires all institutions that receive federal funding to repatriate remains and artifacts so if you can identify the source of something on display absolutely get a hold of that instituteās repatriation office
There is NO EXCUSE to keep another cultureās historical treasures. Everything can be documented and re-produced.Ā
Itās time to start repatriating stolen artifacts!
