"everyone should get more aromantic" can appeal to tumblr's sensibilities but I genuinely think everyone should also get more asexual. I don't mean everyone stop having sex, what I mean is
Sex is not essential. You can live without it. Full stop.
Not having sex isn't shameful or a sign of failure. It also doesn't make anyone boring.
You are not entitled to having sex with anybody and nobody is entitled to having sex with you.
Sex is not what makes someone an adult.
Nobody's worth is defined by how much sex they have or don't have.
Sex is not equally important to everyone.
You can have fulfilling and happy relationships without sex.
You should only have sex on your own terms, not because you feel like you owe it to someone, or because you feel like you'd be incomplete without it.
Know your boundaries around sex and be firm about them. Know how to respect other people's boundaries.
The previous point also applies when it comes to discussing sex. If someone doesn't wanna talk about it or hear about it you have to back down.
Anything can be sexual but not everything has to be sexual.
Firmly convinced the world would be a better place if we started treating sex the way we'd treat any other mundane preference in life, like what kind of chips a person likes to eat with their lunch.

the lambda literary nominations have been out for a bit so here’s a reminder that this is a great place to find new books in categories such as “lesbian fiction” and “transgender poetry” and “gay romance”
i’m not joking btw
Today I learned that cuttlefish experience REM sleep, and that it makes their skin flash random colors. This is the cutest thing ever.
The electric eel at my aquarium has a voltmeter attached to his tank, and whenever he pumps out a burst of electricity–either when he’s navigating his tank or getting fed–the meter lights up and makes noise. Sometimes, I’ll walk past him when he’s snuggled up and totally motionless on his log, and see the voltmeter going crazy.
I am left to assume that he is dreaming, and is sleep-zapping at the things in his dreams.
I am absolutely delighted to learn that electric eels dream of kicking ass.
every time someone realizes they dont have to pick between being a boy or a girl an angel gets its wings btw. and also extremely loud cheering can be heard in the distance from me specifically
btw if you've ever wondered why i make posts like this and get really obnoxious about nonbinary positivity. this is why
and for all of yall that are still figuring it out or aren't getting the support you deserve:
Why does my now 306 page long category theory textbook take so long to compile? It's not fair :( Do better LaTeX.
If it's during the writing (not compiling the finished document I mean), you can speed-up the compilation ! Tips (not sorted) :
Split the doc into multiple files and use \include for each file (e.g. chapters), and comment out the ones you are not working on (so you are only compiling the chapter you are working on)
Use latexmk (to cache results) and please use a better engine (I started with XeLaTeX and it was great, and I now use LuaLaTeX for some documents requiring special processing, or using multiple heavy fonts). You can also use it to parallelize some operations !
Since you're making diagrams, I'll assume you're using TikZ. I love TikZ. Did you know you can cache TikZ diagrams too ? They call it externalizing, just \usetikzlibrary{external} followed by \tikzexternalize[prefix=diagrams/] to avoid reprocessing every diagram (in the preamble)
Use less packages ! When I started LaTeX, I had a long list of packages I sometime used and that were handy (so I didn't need to add the package, I could just write and not think about it). But packages are processed, so remove the useless \usepackage (worst ones being fontspec (which you don't necessarily need) and TikZ; probably minted too but I switched to listings). Same goes for TikZ libraries. Also you don't need inputenc if using a modern engine, we all use UTF-8 anyway... I hope.
If you're using images, compile in draftmode to avoid processing them (you'll do it later). Same goes for hyperref. Just pass the option draft when loading graphicx or hyperref, or in the \documentclass (or use the appropriate flag with you compiler)
Some niche ones I don't use, but for big projects (hundreds of pages and tens of figures), you can
You can also preprocess the preamble once (don't forget to recompile when updating it tho).
Same for bibliography, don't recompile it if it hasn't changed
Optimize (compress) your pictures if you have some (although, if using draft mode, not an issue)
Compile less (some editors auto-compile to emulate WYSIWYG, same for latexmk with the -interaction=nonstopmode flag; disable it).
Use batchmode to remove the output, it's not a lot, but still.
If desperate, reduce PDF compression until the final compile (xdvipdfmx -z0 produces heavy files, so stick to -z2 or -z3, it'll be noticeably faster but still produces medium sized files). You can also configure it in the preamble, using \pdfcompresslevel=2 and \pdfobjcompresslevel=2
Some names just sound so ridiculously fake that had they been fictional, people would’ve rolled their eyes in complete disbelief. Like seriously. Wdym there’s a mf called Galileo Galilei. Stfu. You just made that up
Fastest man on earth is a guy called Usain Bolt. Sure I guess. There’s a poker player whose real name is Chris Moneymaker. Whatever. Scott Speed is a racecar driver. Founder of Tito’s Vodka is some guy called Bert Beveridge. There’s a former CNN bureau chief called William Headline. You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.
let's put this one here as well
I fucking love it when people are OBVIOUSLY born to do that exact job! 🤣🤣🤣

Yet another new study debunked the basis for the anti-trans sports bans. It was never about sports but for creating legal avenues for exclusion and abjection. This is one of the largest analyses ever conducted, involving 52 studies and 6,485 trans people. Read the study here.
post so nice had to reblog it twice and force it down everyone's throats
btw if you are friends with someone and you have the kind of dynamic where you can tease each other you also need to be nice. just so we're all aware. you also have to be nice with your words on top of it. like with your words. use your words. you should tell them with your words when you like something about them. if you are scared of being too sincere or vulnerable that is not an excuse to not be nice to someone. also you should work on that. ok are we all on the same page

it's an accessibility tool i made for myself because i needed it, which basically lets you focus on one sentence at a time as you read large blocks of texts (books, articles, etc.). it offers different highlight styles, some of which use gradients to help guide your eyes from the start of the sentence until the end. you can move forward and back pressing the buttons or using ALT + left and right arrow keys if you use it and you find it helpful please tell me about it so i can have the motivation to keep improving it. i love knowing people use my tools

[ID. Two gifs of the accessibility tool in action. They highlight one sentence at a time for ease of readability.
The first gif shows the tool cycling down the paragraphs, from sentence to sentence, in a thick yellow highlight.
The second gif shows the different highlight styles such as; a thick yellow, a thinner yellow, no highlight at all, a gradient highlight, blocky tri-color highlight by line, and colored text by line. End ID.]
I’m a college student struggling with brain fog due to medical issues, I’m definitely going to try this out next time I’m working on one of my reading heavy courses :) a lot of my books are accessible via some website cloud thing on a browser because owning things isn’t real anymore. this looks like something that will really really help me.
