THE OFFICE 3.01 → "Gay Witch Hunt"
“Recently, my son said to me after seeing a ballet on television: ‘It’s beautiful, but I don’t like it.’ And I thought, Are many grown-ups capable of such a distinction? It’s beautiful, but I don’t like it. Usually, our grown-up thinking is more along the lines of: I don’t like it, so it’s not beautiful. What would it mean to separate those two impressions for art making and for art criticism?”
— “59. it’s beautiful, but I don’t like it” from 100 essays I don’t have time to write: on umbrellas and sword fights, parades and dogs, fire alarms, children, and theater, sarah ruhl (via likeniobe)
"Imagine," says the voice, "that you were underneath a blanket. It's a little small, so your feet poke out from underneath it, and your arms come out from either side."
"Okay," says the human, dangling upside down, suspended by a group of tentacles. "I got it."
"Right," says the voice, which comes from everywhere and nowhere. "Now consider a cat. The cat thinks you're kind of like a cat, but you're so big, he has some problems understanding that all of your body is really you."
"Am I the-"
"Yes. Now listen. Especially under the blanket, the cat doesn't really know where your body begins and ends. He sees your feet, and decides to attack them. He's only play-fighting, but his claws are real sharp, so it hurts. What would you do?"
"Well," says the human, gently spinning in the tentacle's grasp, "I'd try to tuck my feet under the blanket."
"Ah, but then it's even worse," claims the voice, triumphantly, "because now your cat sees Blanket Monsters and attacks them twice as hard."
"So you have to grab the cat."
"It's either that or burrito her," says the voice, squeezing the human in the grip of its tentacles. "And since in this metaphor the blanket represents the fabric of reality as you know it, I don't think you'd find it very pleasant."
"Fair enough," says the human, blood beginning to pool in her head. "Can you please put me down, now? I promise I won't attack you again."
"That's what the cat says every time, too, and yet..."
so thinking about this, i am reminded of graystoke, the smartest cat by far that i ever had.
graystoke hated feet and frequently attacked them.
and one day, when he was probably ten or so, he attacked my feet, and i said ow, and he suddenly stared at me with this look of absolute horror. and he did not attack feet again.

I think Tumblr in general would appreciate the newest back-of-bus advertising campaign in Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand
So-called "free thinkers" when a bus is traveling between Strathmore Park and Newtown:
[ID: tweet by @/VitalikButerin that reads:
"Pokemon" is short for "pocket monsters". "Digimon" is short for "digital monsters".
Therefore, "salmon" is short for "saltwater monsters".
(You might object: salmon spend a big part of their life in freshwater. But pokemon spend a big part of their life outside pockets too!) /end ID]
twilight princess funniest zelda game ever made
one of the reoccurring minor plots is that a 3 year old with the mental capacity of an adult is trying to abolish capitalism in the big city. there's a yeti couple living in an abandoned mansion and the guy yeti is like 10 times the size of and more visibly monstrous than the girl yet they made him a malewife. you can collect insects for a little girl that is insane about them and gives you strange and off-putting dialogue about each bug everytime you give her one and practically threatens you if you try to leave her home without giving her bugs she doesn't have yet. one of the modes of transportation in this game is being shot out of a giant canon by a depressed clown and landing on your feet with no injuries. there's a spaghetti western style minigame where the objective is to talk to 20 different cats. a chicken attempts to flirt with link. they made tingle into a sexyman caricature.
i completely forgot about ooccoo while making this post. this fucking thing:
and, of course, her son too
Every time someone says that Twilight Princess is too grimdark and serious, I want to point them to this post. It’s a very silly game.
asked one of my coworkers how she's doing today and she goes "could be better, could be worse," and another coworker nearby who was eavesdropping chimes in with "could be a lil bit o' alligator curse!" i have no idea what he meant by that but i do know that it has been immediately added to the lexicon.
I feel like politicians' insults about each other have really gone down hill. These days it's all "moron" and "loser", so childish. Think what you will of Paul Keating, but he gave us such gems as "he's a shiver waiting for a spine", "debating him is like being flogged with warm lettuce", "he's like a lizard on a rock: alive but looking dead", "he's all tip and no iceberg".
Where's the creativity these days?!
Some of my favourite Paul Keating insults for your enjoyment:
You boxhead, you wouldn't know. You are flat out counting past ten
I suppose that the Honourable Gentleman's hair, like his intellect, will recede into the darkness
He's wound up like a thousand-day clock! One half more turn and there'll be springs and sprockets all over the building. Mr Speaker, give him a valium
Oh, look, it's just Howard being Howard, isn't it, you know? The little desiccated coconut's under pressure and he's attacking anything he can get his hands on
The Opposition could not manage a tart shop
For John Howard to get to any high moral ground he would have to first climb out of the volcanic hole he's dug for himself over the last decade
And my personal favourite:
If there was a university degree for greed, you cunts would all get first-class honours
Thankyou for all the tags. Reblogging this, as is our national duty.
Some more gold;
"Unless he's in with a question in his hand written by someone on his staff, he's useless"
"Opposition members talk about the Oppositions credentials... the Opposition crowd could not raffle a duck in a pub."
"He's always been a shit and a shiver."
And of course, this poetry:
"I regard you as a fool. A fool, right? Which is, of course, basically what you are.
I haven't got much time for wimps, and there are a lot of wimps around.
As a dog returns to its vomit so a fool returns to his folly.
Having enemies worries some people; for me, it is a badge of honour."
He got a lot of stuff wrong and he was a sexist and a homophobe, which is ironic cause he was the cattiest bitch we've ever had for PM. He enshrined Native Title, though, and was always a union man. Mixed feelings all round, but the guy had bars.
The garbage was from outside the barriers that surrounded Madison Square Garden for Swift’s wedding. Read more at straitstimes.com. Read mor
they probably pay $32 for garbage from taylor swift every year-- each time she releases an album!
hearing anything about the nolan odyssey is so funny. it's like "they cut the extremely important and infamous nobody scene" "the cyclops is a giant puppet that they put in an actual historical cave + gave circe animatronics for her pig transformation instead of cgi" "they dumped plastic skeletons in an environmentally protected location they were not supposed to be in" "they recreated ancient greek instruments in order to have an accurate score" "all of odysseus's agency is basically gone" "anne hathaway actually learned how to weave ancient looms" "the women in this movie are treated like shit" "they actually buried actors alive to get those underworld shots" "did you see what the fuck zendaya was fucking wearing holy shit you can't DO THAT, MA'AM" "what do you mean there was a legitimate epic the musical reference" "NOT A SINGLE FUCKING GREEK WAS CAST IN THIS MOVIE"
like did nolan have two guys standing at his side at all times whispering ideas in his ear and one told the truth and the other told lies and they didnt tell him which was which until they wrapped production cause
Critical support to these scammers weaponizing homophobia to drain right-wingers' bank accounts 🫡
