Playing around with some coloration for the medieval sophonts which is a collaboration project with @apollo9235 and @jdeltia . These particular "morphs" are rough concepts for a couple central islander colorations I did on top of a base I also drew for them so I could have something quick and easy to plop colors on.

Also a look at the mouth situation on them.

The tongues are mostly used for speech and helping push food back and do not ever show outside of the mouth unless forced. The teeth are Like That because they primarily eat "fish" (or at least, they did when their particular genus and species evolved and so it stuck) and the most convenient way for them to do that according to evolution was to effectively have a three part stationary sawblade trap inside their jaw for any incoming tasty "fish" (see: small aquatic vertibrates classified by their lack of limbs with digits and ability to circulate breathable air from the water).

like i’m picturing him being really careful and looking at it and carrying it exactly like this while walking or riding through the woods and across rivers and up mountains and through valleys and he doesn’t drop it even once except at the very end where he tidily drops it into the volcano. frodo sam and the crew and even gollum wholly undisturbed. sauron can’t find him bc of the meditative aura surrounding him which is generated by his immense focus on not dropping it

i have truly come to despise and dread redemption arc conversations it is all so christian pls free us

i have come to not care for “redemption” and find it more productive to look at it from the lens of “change.” the former is a subjective judgement anyway. “have u done enough to be worthy again?” “have u been absolved?” puts the power in the hands of an observer or a moral scale that doesnt actually exist. with change it is “what are you doing differently now, and what happens next?” this is what is observable, verifiable, and useful. it doesnt require forgiveness, erasure of the past, or permission. the only part that materially matters is behavioral shift, and it is what is more relevant in terms of restitution too really

the theatrics of “redemption” with guilt and self-loathing and penitence can be incapacitating if anything and yet it is what is overly valorized. characters busy with autoflagellation and self-abnegation are often not meaningfully in motion

I do think the ability to emoji-react is a net win for human communication. not only does it give you an outlet for 'I see and acknowledge this but don't have a verbal response' but it also adds a pleasing alethiometer element to things
