People will say to use life lines but anytime i've reached out to a crisis chat it always goes like this: i'll waste 30 minutes waiting for someone to reply, answer the mandatory questionnaires, then they'll respond "are you planning to kill yourself right now? (if so i will send someone to kidnap you). no? okay then find a therapist, idk what you want me to do." which doesn't help my situation at all and im in the same place as i was an hour ago. and then i will reach out to a friend to chat and they'll tell me to use a life line instead.

I would honestly argue that the main role these crisis lines play in supporting suicidal people are as something the rest of society can point to as proof that "help is available <3" when actually said "help" is either institutionalization or a vague dismissal, depending on how much of a liability they judge your distress to be.
