So here he was fixing his hair again for the hundred times in the past hour and slowly going insane listening to robin talk about something.
Steve has been on many dates with many different types of girls, His dates all went the same way he’d take them out somewhere sometimes to see a movie or dinner or he would take them to skull rock and just get down to the fun bit. However, they all had one thing in common they were all girls. However, after some self-reflection and talking with robin he came to the conclusion that he wouldn’t be against dating a guy. So, robin decided she would set him up on a blind date and wouldn't tell him anything.
“Maybe you should cancel it” Steve interrupted Turing to face her
Robin rolled her eyes “You’re not canceling and stop freaking out, I promise you’ll like him”
“What if he turns out to be a serial killer and I get murder then my death will haunt you for the rest of your life because you forced me on a date, what will you tell Dustin?”
“Okay, first of all Y/N isn’t a serial killer I'm pretty sure he rescues lost kitten from trees on the weekend, second of all how the hell did we not know you were queer earlier with how dramatic you are and third of all if Y/N did murder you probably deserved it.” Robin Lectured sitting up from lounging on his bed and picking up his jacket and offering it to him.
Steve accepted the jacket “Where are we meeting again”
“Why so far?” Steve asked whilst making final adjustments to himself
“Steve has all that Farrah Spray made you stupid, did you forget where we live?” robin scolded “Lou’s is out the way so not many people go there, and I've met Lou before he’s nice and he doesn’t care who you’re with, now go”
Robin stands and practically drags Steve out of his room and down the stairs to his own front door and pushes him out of it.
“Bye have fun” Robin says closing the door
Steve attempts to stop her from closing the door on him but fails "robin wait-”.
Steve parks his car and gets out as he approaches, he whispers to himself before opening the diner door "You can do this”.
The diner is pretty much empty aside from one lone person sitting in a booth facing away from the door he doesn’t turn around as the door chimes. This must be the guy then. Did it just get hotter in here or is it just him? He makes his way over and tries not to throw up.
“Hey Harrington, you made it” The guy greets him as he slides into the other side of the booth
Steve finally gets to see him properly and Jesus Christ he’s pretty “Hey, Robin practically pushed me out the door”
The guy laughs and Steve falls in love with him. He needs to thank robin when he goes home.
“Yeah, that sounds like her”
After the laughter dies down an awkward silence falls over the booth, Steve needs to break it, so he asks where Y/N knows robin from.
“We were in band together before I graduated”
Y/N looks at him with the same look robin gives him when he’s said something stupid, and she can’t believe it.
“Steve... We graduated at the same time; we were in the same year” Y/N explains
There is no way in hell, Steve wouldn't remember someone as pretty as Y/N, sure Steve stuck to the popular crowd but surely -actually the more he thinks about it the more he believes it.
“Oh shit, I really was an asshole in high school, wasn’t I?”
“Absolutely but you must have changed otherwise Robin never would have befriended you” Y/N answers with a smile
They are interrupted by tall man in an apron, this must be Lou Steve thinks looking at him
“What can I get you kids”
They both look at the menu then Steve answers first “Can I have the burger and fries with a coke”
Lou turns towards Y/N “And for you”
“Could I get F/N with a D/N please”
“Sure, I'll bring them over” Lou says before walking away and leaving them alone again.
“So, Steve I’m dying to know, who made Steve ‘the hair’ Harrington have a queer awakening?” Y/N said leaning forward slightly across the table
“Han Solo, Robin forced me to watch all of the Star Wars films with her a couple months ago and I've not been the same since”
“That checks out” Y/N grinned whilst looking at him.
Steve hopes he’s not blushing, is this what all his dates feel like because he’s starting to feel bad for them if they do. The Constant butterflies every time he gets Y/N to laugh might kill him. Robin would definitely never let that go.
“So, tell me more about this new mature Steve who’s not the same asshole from high school, Robin said you have kids?”
With a smile Steve tells him about Dustin and the rest of them minus some things, they spend the rest of evening trading stories and laughing. Lou comes by during this and drops off their orders before leaving again. Steve swears he winked at him when he told them to enjoy their meal.
It’s much later in the night when Steve offers to drive him back home and Y/N accepts. They drive in comfortable silence until they reach the road Y/N lives on.
“You know what Harrington? "Y/N questions looking over at him from the passenger seat
“Me too” Steve replied pulling to a stop outside Y/N's house “we should do this again sometime”
They both sat in silence waiting, this would normally be where Steve would be charming and swoop in for the kiss, but he couldn’t. Do you kiss a guy the same way as a girl or is it different? What if he messed it up and Y/N hates him.
Just as Steve begins to spiral, he looks over to see Y/N with his eyebrows drawn together thinking. Steve is just about to ask him if hes okay, when Y/N looks at him and nods to himself. Y/N leans over and presses a light kiss to Steve's lips.
Steve freezes and his brain goes blank, Y/N's lips are warm and soft, and Steve never wants to feel anything else again, he feels as Y/N starts to pull away and kicks himself, he needs to kiss back so he does, He brings his hand up to Y/N's cheek to keep him close. Y/N parts his lips slightly allowing Steve tongue to slip inside.
When they finally pull apart it's only because they need to breathe.
Y/N smiles at him then gets out with a slam of the car door, He ducks slightly and speaks through the rolled down window “Goodnight, Steve”
He replies smiling and with a wave “night”
With one last wave from Y/N walks away from the car and heads inside.
Steve can’t keep the grin off his face as he drives home or when he finally arrives and walks in spotting Robin longing on his sofa. She looks over at him and can barely contain her excitement. Steve takes the spot next to her and she explodes.
“Tell me everything, how do you feel?”
“ gay really fucking gay”
