My second animated illustration of 2026, "9AM Imabari, Ehime".
A page of forget-me-nots from my current sketchbook.
some emmas, she should get more attention me thinks
literally stream JUST chapter one of death note to understand what i think of as a compelling tragedy
like it's about light killing someone essentially by accident, panicking and losing himself because he thinks that means he is damned, killing a bunch more people because he can and he thinks he's damned now anyway, being almost relieved when a divine being comes to punish him, being explicitly informed by said divine being that he is not damned and no one is going to punish him, being unable to tolerate this, and therefore declaring himself god because if he is not damned then there is not enough damning going on
i don't really love this translation also. the correct translation for the line that's rendered here as "i shall reign over a new world" is "i will become the god of a new world." for those of you who are not familiar with the text
like the thing is that light believes that the thing he is doing (killing criminals; during the first chapter killing only the interpol most wanted list) is good and should be done, but he also believes that it is evil to do. but he also needs the world to reflect that evil. he needs moral structure. he needs god to come down from on high and tell him, yes, what you are doing is evil and you are evil. and then god comes down from on high and says "nah, you're fine," and it completely breaks him. he needs the universe to have moral structure, and if it doesn't, he will create it
me, reaching into my dresser drawer for black pants: I hope this isn’t the pair with big holes worn in the inner thighs
Marie Kondo, gently over my shoulder: why is a pair of pants you find unwearable still in your dresser drawer
me: oh shit that’s right!! The dresser is for clothes that under some circumstance I might conceivably wear!!
Marie Kondo, beaming proudly: Yes, that’s correct!! These pants must have been your favorites. How wonderful that they were so comfortable and practical that you wore them out. But now since they no longer function as pants, you should move them from the drawer where you keep your functioning pants!
me: Yes thanks I got it they’re in the fabric basket now
Marie Kondo, fading back into the darkness: I love what you’ve done with the kitchen!!
Oh no job for me thanks I just wanted to fill out this really long and condescending job application for you☺️
Coworker (60) was cursing under his breath to himself trying to get something to work on his computer. Other coworker (25) asked, "Are you winning son?" which went unanswered for quite a while, until finally coworker (60) very quietly went "..........'son'?"
The other week the topic of memes came up, and coworker (60) went "You know I saw a meme recently which I did not understand." He spent a while searching around on his phone to find what he saw and eventually managed to produce this image
Yes we explained Loss.jpeg to him
At lunch, coworker (23) was talking about all the ingredient combinatorics possible at the local lunch bowl place, which seemed as good a time as any to tell him about None Pizza Left Beef (tradition must be kept alive). I watched him pull out his phone and check in real time that you can in fact order None Pizza Left Beef from Dominoes. At which point he stared at his phone for a long and contemplative moment and went, "I really want to order this."
Also we're all learning here. The other week coworker (23) explained the concept of "lowkenuinely" and "lowkirkenuinely" to me. Never fucking heard of that shit in my life but the kids are up to something.
idk if I've told this story on here before but one time I was sitting at my desk at work and a random dog I'd never seen before strolled into my office and curled up at my feet. and I was like oh you are adorable but what the fuck?
then a woman knocked on the door and said "oh I'm so sorry he's a therapy dog he's trained to seek out people in severe distress"
and I was like right okay, just getting my whole life drive-by roasted by a dog then
goose :)
@uwathebestgirl
I think this one speaks for itself
i am an unreliable narrator both because i do not remember and also i love to lie
girl who sat next to me at the coffee shop had that Tortured By Computer Work look in her eye so i turned to her and was like Are u doing research? and it turns out she (white) just started working as an indigenous liaison for an ecological wellness surveying company (hired bc she worked with the local nation for a year) so i was like OMG can i share resources with you. and whipped out my 1 million notes and academic papers on ethical Indigenous-settler relations/research and Indigenous perspectives on ecological restoration. she was like omg are u sure this is basically a whole course for free and i wanted to tear my shirt off liek YES!!!! I WANT TO PROMOTE LOW BARRIER EDUCATION TO ADVANCE DECOLONIZATION AND RECONCILIATION!!!!!!!!!!! STEP IN2 MY GOOGLE DOC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
here's a googoodrive folder containing learnings on Experiential Learning in Ecological Restoration annnddd Research Practice in Indigenous Contexts. each course folder contains a "![Course number] Notes" document as well as PDFs of all the text-based readings that the notes draw from :-)
i plan 2 make accessible the learnings from my other classes too but i think ill only have time to do all that anonymizing & reformatting once i graduate in a few months lol
the other day in the groupchat we were talking about how historical fiction will often try to code aristocrat characters as more sympathetic by only having them have a single servant instead of a whole household of staff but instead this just makes them look like an exploitative employer who’s so cheap he would rather pile impossible amounts of labor upon a single guy than hire enough help to actually run his house
