haven’t used this blog in MONTHS, but I’ve finally locked in for tadc. mostly my deranged autistic thoughts on the episode (mostly Caine. definitely 99% Caine) fresh off the chopping block
HEAVY SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 8 TADC!!
if you haven’t it watched it yet, this is the only warning i’m giving
Okay. Let’s talk about Caine because what the Hell man. This is what we’re here for. The whole thing with him being the original AI was already theorized before and out in the open with Abel being the other, better AI, but this sequence we got of Caine basically corrupting/consuming the other AI was pure INSANITY!!!
I could sing praises for how the reveal went because it was just beautiful and also terrifying, but this episode left me wondering about Caine even more so than before.
I’m not sure if people have picked up on it yet, but as Kinger has that bucket over his head, describing Caine, I think we get a very interesting line from him.
Kinger says: “Caine was our first semi–successful attempt at that.. I can’t remember what we originally used to call him, but he was one of my greatest achievements as a programmer.”
The wording in this scene really struck me for a few reasons:
– “originally used to call him” clearly refers to how Caine used to be Before the creation of the other AI that ended up being a perfected, better creation.
But what is the point of mentioning his original name? Is it significant? Foreshadowing that we’re still lacking some impressive details about Caine’s being?
obviously we’re missing a lot, but this seems to be a weird thing to just mention off-handed
Kinger seems perfectly aware that after Caine they had another try at a creative AI that went way better than their first attempt. Caine was the ground work so to speak, he was their first trial and Kinger only describes him because that’s the only AI he’s asked about. If Pomni and the others had asked about the full history of C&A, I imagine he’d be able to scrounge something up about it.
Still, is it possible though that he’s misremembering Caine with the other AI though? Is there a chance that he’s mixed them up or the name doesn’t bare any relevance?
It could be like a little treat dangled in front of us for no reason, but I’m falling back into this series head first, deranged, so let’s assume it HAS to mean something.
The names Caine and Abel have already been heavily scrutinized so I’m not gonna rehash the bible for this rant, but keep it in mind.
Caine as we know him is (mostly) the original AI that Kinger contributed to programming and the AI that corrupted/took-over the second one they tried to replace him with. He had a name that hadn’t been Caine, had some form of identity or sentience while he was locked away before breaking out and going violatile.
From my understanding, he got the name After the company was named Caine & Abel, it wouldn’t make sense if the company was named that after his supposed revolutionary re-invention, because it’d be in bits since Caine created the circus for his own needs/purpose.
But we’re missing something again, because that doesn’t make sense either.
If we’re assuming Caine got his name from the company name, shouldn’t it be different? If the company was named before him, surely it would have contained either the names of the team of programmers or main representatives, or even been a fun wordplay thing.
But it’s Caine and Abel. It’s a pair.
I mean it could have still been about the first people to start the company/project, maybe a pair of brothers or family that we don’t get a look into, but the idea of them existing doesn’t really fit.
From what we know of the programmers now confirmed, we have Scratch and Kinger, and Queenie. Queenie for one thing doesn’t fit the title idea because she’s a woman, but Scratch and Kinger put together can’t possibly be the ones to name the company as such either. Kinger admired Scratch and his work on the projects, on Caine specifically, but they don’t seem to have been closer in the past. It’s very “admiration” “coworker” and a bit confusion aligned and not a pair as we could assume.
What I’m thinking of is that the company was named after the two AI. It’d make the most, but also the least sense at the same time.
It makes sense for one thing because nobody got rid of Caine even after they created the new reworked AI.
Okay, maybe it wasn’t simply a priority, but if Caine was already lacking in the past, was somewhat “faulty”, then it wouldn’t make sense for them to keep him around. I don’t know how programming works, but surely they wouldn’t need him after copying the most important codes or assets?
If the programmers wanted to, they’d get rid of him, but as we see early on in the episode, that’s not the case. Caine phrases himself particularly in one of his breakdowns, that he was abandoned, but technically he was locked away for an unknown period of time. He wasn’t deleted nor re-worked into a whole new AI.
It gives us ground to believe that Caine and Abel was an already existing idea of two AI that simply started with the creation of Caine by coincidence.
Caine couldn’t necessarily know it though because nobody got to changing or modifying his code/program before he broke out and lost it. He fought with the other AI, supposedly “winning” the scuffle, although at the price of his sanity and identity. (Interestingly, when we have the dots scenes at the start of the episode, even after Caine “consumed” the other dot, there’s a faint blue outline coming from behind the red.)
I believe he donned the name “Caine” by pure accident, probably from the information about C&A he had previously, but he was always meant to be named such.
Still – STILL, we’re missing a lot. Even if Caine named himself after the company and Abel was planned to be the “partnering” AI, what can the original name be used for?
The only thing I can personally think of is related to Scratch and his “abstract” ideas. However, it’s not enough to make good speculations.
Since this episode I think Scratch maybe potentially purposefully implanted something into Caine to ensure that the AI could manage its own world of creation and human minds? I don’t know how a name could be related to it, maybe it’s a safe word for something, maybe it’s related to something we’re familiar with, but I can’t figure it out right now.
(It’s also really late for this kind of brainstorming so take everything I say with a shit ton amount of salt)
Also, as my last insane thought process of the day (night technically), I’m really fixated on how Pomni seems to be the glue of the group and the single person pushing the motions of the story.
Somebody already touched on her colors being alike to the C&A, Caine and the glitchy eyes we see often, now along with the dots, but it really made me think more.
What if, hypothetically, Pomni isn’t a human?
Since Kinger was singled out by his previous companions abstracting, after him came all the rest we know, with the newest one being Pomni. Nobody before her figured out Kinger regained his sanity and memories in the darkness, nobody would have stopped Jax from abstracting if she hadn’t arrived and likely nobody would have figured out from where to get the computer for Kinger without her.
The group came together after a wild ride beginning with Pomni’s arrival. They weren’t united before, Pomni changed that.
I feel like there’s a significant amount of times that wouldn’t have gone by as well for everybody if Pomni wasn’t there. It’s just too much of a coincidence that when she arrives, everything starts spinning out of control.
This is like the most far-fetched shit ever, but I could imagine Pomni meaning to be an NPC that Caine forgot about. Maybe an NPC that was influenced by the mess of codes or the void Caine keeps everybody out of, or something related to Abel. Or maybe she was meant to be something along a perfect mesh of the two AI, balancing out the instability Caine suffers from and Abel’s creative thinking.
But that’s really a spare theory of the day.
I’m out of juice out of sanity and out of . Everything. Goodnight
