One thing im uncomfortably woke about is bugs. And im actively trying to get more uncomfortably woke. By this i mean i DO believe the normalised fear of bugs stems from both government and business propaganda. The start of household pesticide sales coinciding with the boom in insect related horror movies. The promotion of anti intellectualism and anti enviromentalism. If you're scared of bugs, you wont care about saving them. If you dont care about saving them, you wont care about saving our home, since without bugs it cannot be saved. If you dont care about saving our home, the rich can do whatever they want with the chunks of it they continue to destroy.

I WILL calmly and kindly try to help anyone who is afraid of bugs. I will show them my finds, i will explain their importance, i will tell them just how sweet and gentle and friendly they are. And I WILL shoot down any immature loser who believes senseless killing is the only possible response to not liking something.

Get woke. Love bugs.

EDIT: this breached containment. My usual like count is like 5 😭 i want to clarify i mean people who conflate fear with hate are the ones who wont care about saving our planet, like people who threaten to kill peoples pet bugs or actively kill bugs outside for no apparent reason. Not people who run away from a bee.

This one is a sample of rhyolite that I turned into a thin section! It looks less visually exciting than rocks/minerals with bright colors, however, this one is really important to me because it was the first sample I made into a thin-section myself!

Lots of feldspar (white to dark gray) and quartz (white to yellow) crystals in this one. There was also a bit of biotite (brown to reddish-brown) too in this sample.

Rhyolite is a felsic, extrusive igneous rock. It’s really high in silica (you can see a lot of very fine quartz crystals in the thin-section). Due to the high silica in its original magma, the volcanic eruptions that produce rhyolite tend to be quite explosive.

Garnets are my favorite mineral! Here are some pictures of a garnet crystal in microscope thin-section. Many varieties of garnets are dodecahedral, like naturally forming dice. This sample had been altered, so the crystal grains are somewhat deformed, thus the less distinct edges of this garnet crystal.

Garnet in PPL (Plane Polarized Light): slightly yellow, distinct shape.

Garnet in XPL (Cross Polarized Light): extinct (opaque) at all angles of rotation.

Garnet in XPL + gypsum filter: funky town.

sorry to post religious ads but i got this ad

and i can't get over how the artist/graphic designer clearly went in knowing they were replicating classic holy white bird imagery and did a decent job with the editing too, except they either don't know what a dove is, don't know that the bird being specifically a dove matters, or just got real lazy and chose the first all white bird that came up in search results because that is fully a seagull in that image
