I’ve decided to go Linux once I can’t string out windows 10 anymore. I’m not giving my screen caps to bill gates.

Of someone who still maintains a Windows 10 install, I'm going to tell you- go ahead and put Linux on an old laptop or something and start getting used to it. Cinnamon and KDE will feel pretty comfortable for a window migrant.

As for bistro, I'm going to suggest Ubuntu based distros like mint, Kubuntu, Ect.

If you want cinnamon, go with mint. If you want Katie, go with kubuntu.

If you're going to be more gaming focused- there's a myriad of distributions you can choose from. Most of them are going to be arch-based, and I have no experience with arch.

For pure gaming focused rigs, Bazzite is pretty good. It comes game ready right out of the box and setup was the easiest Linux install I have even done. Its also Fedora based, so it gets very stable updates. If you are a power gamer who is a casual Windows user, this is the distro for you.

That said, I am moving back to Mint because as easy and hassle free as Bazzite is, all of that convenience comes at the price of a very locked down system that resists being customized, which I find very annoying.

Mint is the one I have the most experience with, but I recently moved from mint to kubuntu, I like the cinnamon desktop environment, but it's maintained by like two dudes.

Those two dude are doing the Lord's work and absolutely deserve the very best in life. I'm just looking forward to not having to get more than one lecture every time I enter a sudo command and being able to install flatpaks from the terminal. Don't get me wrong, the Bazzite Bazaar is pretty extensive, but it doesn't have everything that I want and it doesn't play nice with software designed for other distros.

Incidentally, how is kubuntu with games? I haven't used it since 2018 and I wasn't super impressed at the time.

Most of the scientific and medical literature says that there is no relationship between having a shellfish allergy and an allergy to iodine contrast dyes, however if you mention that you have a shellfish allergy, radiologists will assume you are allergic to the normal iodine dye and refuse to use it on you.

@celticcanon has it correct. It’s another medical myth that’s persisted despite clear data since its origin in the 70s. And radiologists still get it wrong even today. Imagine that.

Why it is not true

• Shellfish allergy is to proteins, not iodine. The main allergen is tropomyosin (a muscle protein), sometimes with other proteins. Iodine content in shellfish is irrelevant to the allergic response. 

• Iodine itself is not an allergen. It is an essential element the body uses (e.g., for thyroid hormones) and is present in iodized salt. There are no documented true IgE-mediated allergic reactions to elemental iodine. Reactions sometimes blamed on “iodine” (such as to povidone-iodine skin prep) are usually due to other components in the product. 

• Contrast reactions work differently. Most immediate reactions to iodinated contrast media are anaphylactoid (non-IgE-mediated). They are thought to involve direct mast-cell/basophil activation related to the agent’s physicochemical properties (especially hyperosmolarity in older high-osmolar agents), not an immune response to iodine. Modern low- or iso-osmolar non-ionic contrast agents have lower reaction rates

The interesting thing is that this myth doesn't just persist with radiologists, but with experienced doctors as well. When my daughter had her last round of imaging, I asked the radiologist (not the tech, the actual doctor) about iodine allergies and he told me that its not the iodine that causes the allergy, but proteins in dye that are still there because the iodine is extracted from shellfish. Which I could find no evidence of and doesn't really make sense. Even if the iodine in the dye was extracted from shrimp or whatever, the synthesis process would render it down to medically pure iodine.

All of which goes to show that no amount of education or professional standards can conquer the mythological side of the human brain.

I thought I remembered that early CD-ROM's and PS1 discs would just chemically degrade until they stopped working forever, and there was some early Kojima game that was already lost media because of it. Even the people who owned the physical discs couldn't use them any more.

Lost Warld was canceled, Guy Savage was a minigame in MGS:3, but was removed later, and a later full-length rendition was scrapped, Snatcher & Policenauts, the English Localizations, were never officially ported, and P.T. was deleted after his Silent Hill game was canceled.

While there is disc rot, that hasn't really led to games being lost, beta discs and unreleased prototype games have been lost due to this, but games haven't been.
