one genre of fanfiction that seems to have mostly disappeared since i became an adult is shenanigans-type fics. like not exactly crack but just "the gang goes to 7-11" type, extremely low-stakes plot stories. the beach episodes of fanfiction. i just feel like i don't see those around so much anymore. whered they go. i miss them :(
*taps mic* the queer community needs to make more effort to make pride events accessible despite corporate influence on pride and structural inaccessibility.
the queer community needs to hype up disability pride month (july btw) while queer pride month is happening. the queer community needs to amplify disabled queer experiences.
the queer community needs to recognize intersex people and how many of us have disabilities related to our intersex variation - and this Still Does Not Prove Eugenicists Right.
the queer community needs to fight ableism and love disabled people. queer or not. also quick question. why do you think the right paints us as insane predators.
they say you can't pour from an empty cup but i've been doing it my whole life and aside from all of these mysterious ailments it's working out great for me
"oh i've worked in pain like this before im just being a child not working through it agai-" bitch it was inhumane when you worked during it before. get a heating pad and get into bed.
In case anyone finds it helpful because mobility aids are horrifically expensive and inaccessible…
And for those people who have access to mobility devices but might benefit from a second chair they can abuse without risking expensive damage…
Erik Kondo has made a website, Open Source Innovations, that details plans for DIY wheelchairs. These wheelchairs can be made from common materials like wood, plastic, and pvc. They are lightweight and can be custom fit to the user allowing from the same degree of movement you would get from a custom chair. And they are durable and easily repairable. (he has been stress testing his latest design by dropping it down stairs, dropping it out of a car, launching it across a driveway, and throwing it off a deck). Its 12lbs and I think he said its was in the $200 ish range for parts.
He also is working on cheap, open source, accessible designs for beach chairs, off road chairs, motorized attachments (think smart drive), and so on. Plus he skateboards in his wheelchair. Cool dude, helpful info, pass it on.
It's incredibly sad people have to resort to this, but it's a damn good resource. Use it. Spread awareness. Maybe one day people with physical disabilities won't need DIYs like this. But until then, reblog and share.
This is Accessibility!
That's so amazing! It is unfortunate that so many people will need this, but very very cool that it exists
That other link seems to be broken.
Thank you so much for putting the working one!
I will add it to my original reblog as well.
*clutches my purse and starts walking a little bit faster*
One single spider has been descending from a very long thread all the way from the moon and will very soon, we hope, carefully touch down on earth.
why does everything cost money
I hear you can pour river water into your socks for free
you can post on tumblr even when you're trying to take a break from social media it literally doesn't count. it's like pepsi max, or pescatarianism
i hope every aroace person who is tired of romance and sex being falsely made out to be the center of everything has a good day today
just saw someone say "a fandom is small, so like only 1-3 fics posted per day" . you wouldnt survive a day in the place where im from
really big extra-large size moth found on malgana and nhanda country in wa if you even care
this summer i recommend shower wipes or body wipes to people who struggle with hygiene due to disability, mental or physical. yes i know it produces unnecessary waste. yes there’s the argument of “if you buy the wipes then you’ll never shower,” but chances are most people who are struggling would Not Have Showered with or without access to wipes. i know it isnt a full shower but wiping yourself down can make a big difference in how you feel!!
along these lines you can think about buying mouthwash to use when it’s too hard to brush your teeth, dry shampoo if it’ll help keep your hair less oily when washing your hair is overwhelming, etc. you deserve easier ways to care for yourself and feel clean. also remember you are not a failure for struggling with hygiene even if society tells you otherwise!
i really hate how so many trends or like running jokes online are just ableism towards visually impaired people
things like hating on light mode seem like funny jokes until elon musk says he wants to remove light mode from twitter or websites are designed without a light mode because “who needs that?” (i need it. i need the high contrast to read and i can’t read at all if it’s dark)
also “the big light”. i’ve argued with people in real life over whether i should turn my lights off. being able to see in my own home is something people are always causing problems over because they think it’s funny. same with insisting i get warm toned lights.
i am not an asshole. if you’re sitting in the dark i will ask if i can turn off the light and if you say no i will do whatever i need to do without needing to see. since the majority of people can see with just a lamp on it’s considered socially acceptable to take away the option for other people to see in their own spaces though and it’s worsened by the fact that light sensitivity can also be a disability and people use that to their advantage to dismiss other people’s needs instead of acknowledging the conflict in necessary accommodations. that’s why we need both options!! just because you don’t need my option doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter
