i wish there was an animal that could see radio waves so I could transmit that i love them and every one on earth would know it
i would randomly broadcast the growling of their natural predator so theyre freaked the fuck out all the time

WARNING do NOT start reading books and comics or watching movies or looking at art!!! you will start wanting to create art yourself. or god forbid. writing.
real answer for when youre actually too scared to actually do (thing); do something that reminds you of it scared.
maybe youre scared of being near spiders, you can look at less frightening ones online. if you panic and physically cannot bring yourself to intentionally view them, try reading or listening to audio about them. i would highly suggest this because it wont just remind you of them, it will demystify them. then you can work up to looking at the cute ones. (I CANNOT RECOMMEND JUMPING SPIDERS ENOUGH pet jumping spider videos no joke cured my mom who wouldnt go in a room tjat had a spider in it without panicing for like 3 days after seeing even a spider too small to bite. she couldnt just do it scared but you know what she could do scared, peeking from behind her fingers? look at people's fuzzy, big eyed, compact and less spindly adored pets)
same if youre scared of needles, i saw someone talking about hrt say he would just hold the needle in his hand for a few seconds, then he was able to carry it around for awhile while doing other stuff, then tap it against himself while the needle is still capped, and after a long time he can do injections.
just thinking about it is the first step of many and at the top of the staircase? doing it scared lol
but no joke if you have a serious fear of something that is hindering your life take the babiest steps imaginable. you have to take a lot of them BUT you wont retraumatize yourself and make it worse forcing yourself into impossible situations that will only make you break down. and ypur life will be better.
This works for situations too, not just phobias of animals. When I was scared of getting lost all the time I would get a copy of the campus map and read the buildings, I'd learn about cartography, I'd play with compasses and get more of a sense of agency over my environment, learn how to figure out if someone seemed okay with me asking them for directions, and ultimately feeling lost like in video games and in pretend games of "getting lost" like mazes. As well as tricks for getting un-lost. You can do this with basically anything.
sometimes i think i can probably pass as masc and maybe even as a straight guy but any time i engage in conversation with a kind stranger i have a demeanor not unlike a princely rich girl archetype in a 2000s manga and frequently extend my hand in an elegant manner which has caused a number of drunken individuals on nights out to kiss my hand as if i were a beautiful ojousama and not a greasy mechanic
every time i talk in work i feel this image manifest in my mind like a specter that torments me
Hey so as the economy continues to get worse in the next few years, gambling companies are going to go extra hardcore predatory as people become more desperate. Yes, even more than they already are. You have to promise me right now you're not going to fall for it. No gambling, okay?
This is going to be especially bad with prediction markets and sports gambling, and it's already really fucking bad. But it also goes for loot boxes, blind box collectables, trading card games, and ESPECIALLY gacha games.
THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS
GAMBLING IS NEVER PROFITABLE
RESIST THE URGE
An archivist found a long forgotten 8mm film reel in an old metal box, marked “Philippines 1942”. Thinking it was lost WWII footage, he sent it in to be restored/digitized. When he got the footage back, he found puppies instead (via)
This is so freaking profound. Like, this was before the advent of the personal camera. Not just anyone owned a camera in these days. Cameras were expensive, and so was the film. When you were recording shit, it had to be stuff you were willing to shell out a pretty penny to have preserved. Someone so deeply and profoundly loved these dogs and found joy in them that they decided to preserve them for future generations to see, after these pups are long dead and gone. This camera operator wanted to preserve the joy these dogs brought them and to share it with others. How incredible is that?
Resisting the urge to Um Actually this dragon novel because it has the dragon eggs be like three or four feet wide but there is simply a limit to how large hard-shelled terrestrial eggs can be. No matter how large the animal is, the embryo needs oxygen, and oxygen needs surface area. The larger an object is, the lower its surface area relative to volume, and the less oxygen the embryo can receive. We think of large animals as having porportionately large young because mammalian pregnancy has the unique benefit of allowing for the size of the young to scale with the adult because their oxygen is provided directly through the placenta, and almost all the megafauna remaining on Earth are mammals. But this is not the case for species which lay eggs! For fuck's sake even the sauropods hatched out of eggs barely larger than basketballs! Your hatchling dragon would be impressively enormous if it were the size of a house cat. Stop trying to make me believe that this (ROUND!) dragon egg somehow supplied enough oxygen to develop an infant the size of a large dog or even bigger. If it were possible the dinosaurs woulda been doing it!!!!
I love you /lh. Experts going off on their particular fascinating cool topics and adding unexpected context to things we take for granted is like my favorite thing this was delightful. Talk to me more about eggs and geometry and biology all you want :D
Amazing concept
Heads up my trans and queer friends, do not participate in this study. Spread the word to stay away;
Skeet from Alejandra Caraballo that says: If you see this, don't participate. It's a rigged study by Lisa Littman and unethical researcher J. Michael Bailey meant to undermine access to care. Spread the word.
Would be wild if people told Northwest University about the multiple pseudoscience loving transphobes associated with this project.
Oh hey they have a complaint page
https://irb.northwestern.edu/about/contact-us/concerns-complaints.html
absolutely complain to Northwest University.
EthicsPoint provides online reporting systems for companies looking to reduce fraud and abuse.
this link takes you to the ethics point reporting system for the university.
it will prompt you to fill in the names of the people involved (Dr. Michael Bailey, Dr. Lisa Littman, Dr. Kenneth Zucker) and ask for a description of the incident.
tell them about their discredited ROGD study and how its data was cherry picked and misrepresented and used to deny access to trans healthcare. tell them it is going to happen again with the AYOGDO study. tell them the researchers have a vested personal interest against trans healthcare, and personal anti-trans biases.
you can do this completely anonymously too!
Put your phone down for one minute.Stop watching movies.Stop playing games.Stop drawing.Stop laughing—just one minute. And share this, because many people do not know the truth.
Iran, Iran, Iran—everyone is talking about it.
Trump and Netanyahu too. Everyone thinks that Palestine is free now, but Palestine is still having its land stolen, its children killed, and its homes destroyed. Do you think the war in Gaza is over?
It is not.Today, Netanyahu ordered the army to randomly bomb anyone, even if they are children
If you support Palestine, please share this post.
And if you have even a small amount of money, please donate to my campaign.I want to save my sister from death—she suffers from severe anemia. €5 from each person would be enough
ICE now tackling press.
Source.
Interview where he talks about what happened.
A photographer for Getty isn't even a journalist so much as an archivist. ICE violently disrupted the apolitical documentation of what they were doing, violating any and all rights that might flimsily stand in their way. It would have been just as wrong had they done this to an MSNBC reporter hellbent on a spin, but now Abernathy's neutral action as a photographer has been rendered necessarily political by ICE's violence.
They know what they're doing is objectively evil. They have no intention of stopping.
previous tags from @nihilisticspacequeer, which provide a bit of context for why Abernathy threw his (extremely expensive) camera
they got way more on camera too. lookit this shit. source
they knock him down from behind, they're kneeling on him, and they've set off tear gas. his arms are pinned under him and he can't breathe. look at this photo of his face.
I'm gagging and literally thought I’m going to pass out. I couldn’t breathe. I was thinking I only have a couple of breaths left and I don’t know what’s going to happen after that. I had taken that last shot and I threw my camera. I lifted my head up and saw one photographer taking photos. I threw my camera and then I threw my phone.
this last picture is his camera on top of his citation.
but the insane thing? yk how he said
I had taken that last shot and I threw my camera.
THIS IS THE LAST SHOT
THIS is the photo he took before he threw his camera. how poignant.
check out the article source too, it's a really good read.
DO NOT CALL THE REGULAR POLICE.
they are not on your side.
Very explicitly, in the video, the regular police straight up lie to the couple, telling them they will go to jail for harboring a fugitive if they dont hand the doordasher over, and that it doesnt matter if ice has a warrant for her arrest. NEITHER OF THESE THINGS ARE TRUE. You CANNOT be harboring a fugitive if the person you are haboring doesnt have a warrant out for their arrest! The warrant is what makes them a fugitive!
If ice wants access to someone on your property, do NOT hand them over unless you are shown a warrant signed by a judge! Make as much noise as you can to attract bystanders - it was the fact that a crowd gathered and started yelling at them that made ice leave in the video. And DO NOT expect the regular police to help you - they are just another arm of the state and will only do or say whatever they think is necessary to make you comply.
And make sure you film everything so you have evidence of what really happened if ice tries to enter your property illegally.
"Friends outside of Minnesota please read. I'm sharing a post written by a personal friend and medical doctor: Friends outside MN, you need to know what is happening here. Everyone knows that ICE shot and killed a woman here on Wednesday. But that’s not the only thing that’s going on:
ICE agents are cruising areas with immigrant-owned businesses, and kidnapping patrons and employees alike. Yesterday they abducted two US citizen employees at a suburban Target, one who was begging them to allow him to go get his passport to show them.
ICE is going door to door in immigrant-heavy neighborhoods, asking residents where their immigrant neighbors live. Read that again. If it sounds like something out of your high school history textbook, that’s because it is.
ICE is targeting schools and school buses. They pepper sprayed teenagers and abducted two school staff members at the high school up the street from me on Wednesday. Police are literally escorting school buses to ensure children can get to school and home safely. The Minneapolis Public Schools have moved to virtual learning for the next 4 weeks because it’s unsafe for children or teachers to physically come to school.
They are targeting hospitals and clinics. Patients are scared and are cancelling their appointments or just not showing up. Kids are missing their checkups and vaccines, folks aren’t getting their cancer care, etc.
They are smashing windows in cars and homes.
ICE is increasingly picking up Native Americans—again, targeting folks based on skin color alone.
They are arresting and beating legal observers. A friend of a friend had her arm broken yesterday. Folks are showing up at local hospitals, brought in in ICE custody, with severe injuries that are absolutely inconsistent with mechanism of injury reported by ICE. (Think: patient appears to have been beaten unconscious, while ICE agent says he slipped and fell.) I can’t emphasize enough that these ICE agents do not have warrants. There are 2,000+ agents here and they are simply hunting for anyone that’s not white. It doesn’t matter if you’re a citizen or a green card holder, they will kidnap you first and ask questions later. But the community is fighting back.
Protests are happening every day.
Community groups have been leading know-your-rights sessions for months, often to packed venues.
Whistles are being distributed by the thousands, carried on keychains and worn on coat zippers, always at the ready to be blown in warning if ICE is spotted.
Drivers are following ICE vehicles, blaring their horns in warning.
Businesses are locking their doors even while open to keep employees and customers safe. As I type this, I’m standing guard at the locked door of our neighborhood burrito joint while I wait for my takeout order, so the employees can focus on their jobs. The place is packed with neighbors supporting this small business.
Anti-ICE signs are posted everywhere. The community is making it crystal clear that ICE is not welcome here.
Parents and neighbors are standing guard outside schools, organizing carpools, and escorting kids to and from school on foot.
Parents of kids in Spanish-immersion daycare (there are a LOT of these daycares here!) are keeping their kids home so the teachers don’t have to take the risk of coming to work.
Churches and community groups are holding fundraisers to buy and deliver groceries to families who don’t feel safe leaving home.
Mutual aid money is going out to folks who can’t make rent because they can’t work or because a breadwinner was abducted, or who need a warm place to stay after their home’s windows were smashed. THAT is what is happening here. This fight is ongoing and it’s horrifying to watch. But we are not backing down. To my friends in other cities and states, don’t think for a minute that this won’t happen in your town. It will. Be ready. Learn from us, as we have learned from Portland and Chicago and New York. Fight back. Don’t let us get to the last line of Martin Niemoller’s poem.” -Grant Boulanger
Here's an AP news brief with a little more info. It's limited in the way major news outlets are right now but provides context that supports the personal account shared.
"i feel besquintled", said no one ever. because that's not a word.
okay nevermind it IS a word now and this is exactly what it means.
^^^ This. The COMBINED population of the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul) is only about 2.6 million. That's not small town numbers, sure, but compared to NYC (20.1 million in the metropolitan area)? LA? (12.9 million "")?
Minneapolis is being made an example of because they're the most bitesized target, and if you're doing a shock and awe campaign like this you need to not choke on national tv.
(And they're still having to fight for it. Minneapolis isn't taking this laying down, and more power to them for their courage.)
Just as a side note, ICE raids are currently also happening in Columbus OH- which is double the size of Minneapolis but still much smaller than Chicago or LA.
