we simply do not give enough attention to the fact that the US is. Shooting itself in the foot at every turn. not in a individual incompetence way, not an an orange idiot in the White House Way, but in a āthe US spent a century designing a world order where everyone was either reliant on the US or terrified of the US (often both) and now people at every level of federal government are destroying that systemā way. While USAID very much did in fact contribute to like, food and medicine and whatever to people in need around the globe, this was not out of the kindness of American hearts, this is an arm of liberal empire. the carrot so to speak. and as for the stick, the point of having a military the size of the US military is not to use it. Itās to park on peoples lawns until they stand down. when you use it, and then lose, or deliver anything other than immediate and crushing defeat, you illustrate to the people whose lawn youāre parked on that spending billions of dollars isnāt enough to win a war necessarily. Iran could have closed the strait at any point, but they didnt bc the USA would bomb the shit out of them. When they get bombed first, thereās no reason not to close the strait. The US played its hand and it came up wanting. this is to say nothing of the damage to alliances with other liberal democratic countries. the people currently in power swallowed USA propaganda hook line and sinker, believed in it so completely, that theyre shaking the foundation of what lent that propaganda its believability. to say nothing of the fact that their aims are despicable, their methods are just. an embarrassment to empire building. they took a perfectly good empire and started lopping shit off. theyāre trying to increase the output of a machine by ripping cogs out of its still-running engine.

2-YEAR CHEDDAR
from GRAFTON VILLAGE
I usually try to review cheeses virginally - that is, ones that Iāve never had before. In this case, this is a cheddar Iāve had many times before. But I couldnāt leave it off the blog, what with its obvious appeal to leather and rubber fetishists.
As far as cheddars go, Graftonās 2-year aged isnāt going to shock you. Itās mild, light on the salt, with a slightly sweet and grassy flavour. Itās got a nice texture. Itās dense, more moist than I expected, and smooth.
So what is the deal with the gummi suit on this cheese anyway? Well, cheese has obviously been around a lot longer than fridges. Fresh cheeses like mozzarella are too moist to last very long outside of a cold place (bacteria and fungi do so love damp places), though I donāt think anyone was too mad about eating that stuff quickly. But cheeses that have been aged (and dried) more have some more preservation options, which is where cheese wax comes in. The wax is a physical barrier, stopping fungal spores from landing, and also blocks moisture and air, making the cheese a pretty unfriendly place to grow. Even drier cheeses can be bandaged in cheesecloth and then slathered in lard to preserve them while allowing some ventilation.
I gotta admit: hot wax isnāt really my thing. But cheesecloth bondage and grease⦠it has potential.

I feel like not enough people realize that people under enormous strain act really really fucking Weird
things humans are known to do when stressed:
-hallucinate
-cry over what seems to be small things
-become furiously angry over what seems to be small things
-hit a self destruct button over and over again
-lose all sense of reality
-becoming straight up unable to communicate
-view every situation as life or death
-experience delusions/become vulnerable to irrational worldviews
-perceive hostility where none exists
-become extremely nauseous and/or throw up
-stop engaging in sleeping/eating/basic hygiene
-stop processing sensory input
-process way too much sensory input all at once
-lash out at others/themselves
-and more!
being able to recognize when a human (ie. you or another person) is so stressed out they cannot think clearly is VERY important for conflict resolution and diffusing emotional crisis. highly recommend trying to train yourself at being able to recognize that state of panic- there is a point in which logic and rationality is useless and you have to address the underlying emotional issue first. knowing that saves everyone a lot of pain and struggle.

idk i always kind of roll my eyes at all those posts that are like āpeople used to be ugly in moviesā likeā¦.. wellāļøi donāt think thatās true. i think male actors have always had more leeway to look a bit imperfect. weāve had average/weird looking male actors in every generation, including this one. but people have always needed to be āhotā for movies. and they did crazy shit for it!! marlene dietrich getting teeth extracted to hollow out her cheeks, carole lombard undergoing her (non-cosmetic) facial reconstruction without anesthesia because they thought it would look better, etc ad infinitum. do you know the kinds of diets they had women on to keep them skinnyā¦. not to mention beauty standards for women of color tryna be in movies. like thereās a reason the three biggest black actresses of classic hollywood decades were josephine baker, lena horne, and dorothy dandridge: all pretty lightskinned with smaller mouths and noses -> approximating whiteness (no shade i love these women sm). i think the difference Today is that there are simply way more procedures you can get done since cosmetic medicine has evolved so much. so people can change more of their face with better and more reliable results than they could in the 1930s. point being that people have definitely always needed to be conventionally attractive to be in movies but given the physical scope of what could be conceivably changed about your appearance there was simply more diversity in like facial structure and features
