Shoutout to Diane Duane, Peter Morwood, and Neil Gaiman for just popping up on my dash and even in my notes every so often with THE most delightful takes and facts about fandom and fandom history. I’ll be reading a response to a fandom post like “go off fandom veteran!” and then I do a doubletake and it’s a beloved sci-fi/fantasy author just delightedly engaging in fandom with us.
Aww, thanks very much! 😊 (Sorry for the delayed response… I’ve been under the weather for the last week or so [details…] and haven’t always been seeing / responding to things in a timely manner.)
…All of us, no matter what our career histories are like, have times when we wonder kind of hopelessly whether we’re just talking into an uncaring void. It’s nice to be reminded, at least sometimes, that that’s not so. (And this is one of the places where the reminders come in unusually genuine and generous forms. So thanks for that, all.) 🙂
…And also, don’t miss this basic truth: all of us come from fandom (if different segments of it). All of us like having come from that place, and we all cherish the many friendships we’ve made there and the fun we’ve had. It’s part of us. None of us are in a rush to ditch the unique pleasures of engaging with fandom/other fans. Even Neil, who is way more madly pressed and busy than either Peter or me, has said explicitly that Tumblr is a place where he likes being when he has time. So don’t imagine that we’d have it otherwise. Y’all are our tribe. ❤️
Diane speaks the truth.
Wish doctors would just tell me to go to the fucking seaside what the fuck is an anxiety disorder that’s not real you know what’s real? Ocean. Cliffs. Rocks and seashells. That’s real.

been getting really into bed lately
Yeah I'm calling bullshit on that one, from experience the average domestic water heater only takes between an hour and a half to 3 hours at the absolute worst, what the hell are these plumbers doing for the other 4-5 hours?
Jumping on goonba lol
lol
i absolutely fuckin hate it here
Some people on this website learnt the word “trope” and let it settle comfortably into the vocabulary space that should have been occupied by the word “cliché”.
“Trope” is a neutral word. If a particular trope is overused ad nauseam, it becomes a cliché. Saying you hate tropes does not make any sense.
“I hate recurring themes and motifs”
Well, good luck finding fictional content you can safely consume

my only advice to all the girls out there is to wear weird shit. just do it
the weird thing is, when I view my job as some sort of background extra it becomes much more palatable. people go to a library and see me shelving a stack of books in my cardigan and glasses (now with glasses chain!) and they go "yeah, that's exactly right. that's how it's supposed to be in a library." and for some reason, that's comforting? the work is whatever, and the customers are customers, but sometimes it feels like I'm being paid just to make sure this places looks right, and I find that very fun.
stop being funnier than me on my own posts
i’m going to invent the anti-alexa. she’ll be programmed to ignore everything i ask, play smashmouth at 4 am for no reason, and spy on jeff bezos.

Learning Guy Fieri is actually an excellent human being is what taught me to cool it a little on the cringe culture pile-ons. Like, this is a man who performs gay weddings, donates pretzel machines to schools for their fundraisers, gives a shitload of money to restaurant workers, and apparently lives on a ranch with 400 goats and a flock of peacocks. So who cares if he has wild spiky hair and draws flames on everything? He’s a good egg, and if making crazy hamburgers and shopping at hot topic makes him happy, then let him be happy! And if other people like “cringey” things, so what? Are they kind? Are they caring? Do they have several hundred goats? That’s what matters!
whatever force of god protected me from seeing the enormous amounts of reylo content that were apparently produced this year i am so grateful 🙏
okay nevermind i want what this person got
