I saw some fic (don't remember which. It was probably one of those OOC mokuton Sakura) that made Kizashi Haruno one of Sakumo Hatake's genin students (I remember, in that fic, Kizashi saying if Sakura was a boy she'd be named Sakumo, and his genin team had Hizashi Hyūga too?) It made me wonder... Sakumo being a jounin sensei is awesome! It goes well with Sakumo being a Hokage candidate too!

What if Sakumo's failed mission was a critical war-related mission with his genin team, but he protected not just comrades, but his genin?

In the Kannabi bridge mission, Kakashi "forgetting" to summon Minato with the kunai would make more sense now (panic aside), because he was stuck. Summoning Minato right away would guarantee Rin's safety, but what if that interrupted Minato's mission and doomed him to the same fate as Sakumo? Kakashi coud've chosen to get their own mission done first to stall for time, at least. I think he was ready to sacrifice himself too if the time came. Kakashi was just not counting on Obito being the same.

It also calls back to Hizashi Hyūga's sacrifice and fate bullshit too. He'd probably blame himself for his teacher's choices, and cement his belief that he was expendable, and already fated to die that day.

So Sakumo's expendable genin team so far: Kizashi Haruno (civilian), Hizashi Hyūga (branch family), and for the med-nim girl, I want to squeeze Nonō Yakushi in there (another civilian!). Would Nonō already belong to ROOT by then, and be a plant like Sai? Would she be recruited after that godforsaken mission? Did the outcome of that mission discourage Kizashi from climbing the ranks as shinobi, since he's still a genin and married another civilian?

I know in canon, it's said Sakumo prioritized his comrades, and that even his comrades hated him, but we always hear that from characters, who are unreliable narrators. I remember only Minato talking about Sakumo, and to Obito, a kid. Maybe he didn't want his genin to worry. Minato tried...

Minato says Sakumo's comrades hated him. Maybe the kids lashed out at Sakumo, believing they were fodder anyway, they weren't better ninja than Sakumo and shouldn't have been saved if it meant avoiding another war. Kids take things at face value, they probably believed and repeated the rumors. Sakumo's a sweetheart and got heartbroken by everything.

Happy Father's Day reminder that only good fathers deserve that title because ejaculating into a womb isn't an achievement, and Itachi's only mistake killing Fugaku was not doing so before he and Sasuke formed unrequited attachments to this guy.

The dishonesty about what happened to the Uchiha

Until recently, I had never really been in contact with the Naruto fanbase. I must tell you how surprised I was when I realized how many readers were ready to defend many problematic elements of the manga, always with reasoning errors, sophisms and personal attacks towards the blasphemer that I am for daring to criticize this work. Among these elements, we find the Genocide of the Uchiha Clan which is not only justified in the story by Kishimoto but also by cohorts of morons who find it apparently right to massacre a social group on the basis of racial criteria. So... I'm going to focus on that a little bit.

By the way, I won't waste my time arguing with those who think that genocide is justified or who will come to repeat nonsense that I have already refuted. If you come to piss me off, I will either block you or mock you. You don't deserve more.

1) The Civil War argument

A classic ""argument"" that is used every time the conversation turns to this subject. If Itachi had not agreed to genocide his clan, the internal conflicts would have supposedly weakened Konoha and this would have led to an invasion from the other villages. Okay, I see the point, but then... What proves it ? Ah... That's always where it hurts when I ask this question. In the whole manga, there is absolutely nothing concrete to show that this would have happened. Even better, there are elements that suggest the opposite. During Orochimaru's invasion which left Konoha greatly weakened and without Hokage, nobody took advantage of it. The same during Pain's invasion, the whole village was destroyed and Tsunade was in a coma but no one took advantage of the situation. And after Obito's attack which resulted in many casualties, including the Fourth Hokage, I don't remember any other village taking advantage of it there too.

But why didn't anyone jump at the opportunity ? Let's look at the situation of the other major shinobi villages at the moment. The government of Kiri had to deal with the consequences of the actions that Obito was secretly responsible for. Kumo was under a peace treaty with Konoha. Iwa ? The Tsuchikage was already so concerned about the militarization of Kumo that he started hiring Akatsuki to keep the maximum number of shinobi ready to fight in case of conflict with this village. Suna, which is a village with a weak military power and an economic situation in crisis, could not even use Shukaku for a possible invasion since Gaara was not psychologically stable enough at that time. So there was no serious threat left to Konoha, this invasion story is just absurd.

This pretext, from whom does it come from anyway ? From Danzo, right ? So, from a person who has a real interest in not seeing the Uchiha revolution happen since he is one of its main targets. So this genocide is built on a speculation, because yes that's all it is, biased from a nationalist asshole.

Besides, if we want to play the game of speculations, I could retort that if there was really an invasion, it could have been a good way to reunite the Uchiha with their opponents who should have allied against a common enemy but well, let's move on.

2) Itachi had no choice

Usually, this is where they talk about the fact that Danzo was planning to kill Sasuke if he refused. These people have imagination when it comes to talking about an eventual invasion but strangely, when it comes to finding another choice than butchering a whole clan, it becomes more difficult. So I'm going to do it in their place, what could Itachi have done ?

First of all, alert his clan and help them to escape, for fuck's sake... Itachi could have warned them and helped the civilians to run away during the night while he and the shinobis of his clan covered their escape. I am often told that this solution is not perfect, wow well done Sherlock... Indeed, the risk of the clan members being caught and killed is present but it remains only a risk. Whereas the decision to commit genocide is based on the certainty that there will be many victims.

Then in the case that they refuse to flee (implausible since they were conscious enough of their inferiority to hope to take power by playing on the surprise effect and espionage), two options remained :

- Itachi could run away with Sasuke. We are talking about an elite shinobi, extremely talented and having been part of the ANBU, he knew the methods of his peers and clearly had the skills to outrun them, even in the company of Sasuke. Having the MS, he was already powerful enough at the time to kill those who would be sent after him.

- He could help his clan to achieve the coup. We're talking about victims of discrimination over several generations, who have been ostracized, forcibly parked at the extremities of the village, and who have been deprived of any possibility to act on a political level on the basis of racial criteria. Victims who were unfairly blamed by the Konoha Government for the Kyubi Attack, their rebellion was completely justified... He could have tried to use Shisui's pupil on Danzo to make him change his mind, to convince him to commit suicide or even to force him to join the Uchiha. Just as he could have used it on Hiruzen to force him to protect the Uchiha, or alternatively, to do everything possible to prevent the village from tracking down the Clan once it had left.

Any of theses options were far preferable to a mass killing but he preferred to choose genocide over any other option. He did not try to discuss, negotiate or run away, he chose the only option that is absolutely unacceptable. He had a choice and he chose genocide. However, the truth is that Itachi didn't care about his clan. He didn't kill them because Sasuke's life was threatened, but because he felt they deserved to die for having the audacity to not silently endure discrimination and segregation, for daring to think they deserved better. He was convinced he made the best decision and never expressed regret for what he did, so I'm sorry, but saying he had no choice is a lame excuse.

3) It was for Sasuke

And how does that justify a genocide ? In addition, if he was really interested by this, he would have chosen the option that would have allowed his brother to live without making him a traumatized orphan. He would also have avoided sending him into a vegetative state from which he only came out thanks to Tsunade (whose intervention was not planned by him), to lead his brother on the path of revenge by thinking that an idea of family justice that would prevail over the happiness of Sasuke, he would not have expected his brother to return to Konoha after his death while Danzo was still planning to murder him, he would not have planned to brainwash him with Shisui's Sharingan to make him the slave of Konoha, etc...

Soooo like anyways..... contrary to popular fanon beliefs, Mei terumi is THE strongest yes battle wise amongst the gokage.

not only that but among them she is the only who actually became kage based on merit. Meaning she has zero ties/connections to her 4 previous predecessors. Wasnt related by blood, family, teacher/student, political/inner circle, social group, none of it.

AAAAAND! on top of it, she is the most/smartest political kage/leader and the bravest. Lets break this part down:

1) she grew up in 100year systemic oppressive society with a fuckton of corruption and abuse ---caste society, genocide, discrimination(based on individuals with certain blood types aka kkg wielder)racism

2)having children 9 year olds kill each other to prove that they can even shinobi and by kiri standards it was bare minimum.

3)had to fight/overthrow a government that had&was being influenced by Madara fucking Uchiha, trashbito, and akatsuki.

4)she actually chnaged kirigakure society system of governance for the better, and made improvements. On top of which she makes sure to NOT glorify the past, such as Ao who keeps harping that the bloody mist days were better(like the fuck dude), and reminds him that it was a terrible time horrible era for the mist.

. unlike, you know, a certain hero protagonist that not only agreed that the uchiha massacre was correct, it was also a good thing; itachi, danzo, hiruzen, the elders were right and justified, covered it up, told his "best friend" that he needs to "calm down" and return to the village were he belongs, and then precedes to beat the shit out of him till sasuke had no more fight in him, and doesnt changed the system despite the fact he is the main character of the series and had more dedicated screen time and development with his swing then growing a brain.

Mei is also respectful not only to kiri nin, but also to her enemies. Examples include Gaara during the kage summit and Madara. She also doesn't berate, or speak/think low of others, instead reminding them of their worth(wish you did this for yourself beautiful but its usually easier to uplift others instead of yourself is'nit), is patient, understanding, not arrogant or an ass ... and so much more. The complete opposite of how one is raised grew and lived in such a hellish place. And she shown to try and lighten things up. Heaven knows she's done living in a depressed state.

Overall the least problematic kage and doesnt deserve to be lumped with the other kages.

She did her best with what she had, and thats all anyone can ask for. Because Mei could have easily left kiri and said the hell with it, but she planted her feet and stayed to help her homeland. A literal sweetheart 💕

another thing that haikyuu effortlessly upstages naruto on is its answer to the genius vs hard-worker question.

we have oikawa whose insecurity leads him to label kageyama and ushijima as geniuses. there's even an entire episode called "oikawa tooru is not a genius," where he agonizes over his perceived lack of natural talent compared to ushikage. but still, he concludes that "talent is something you make bloom, instinct is something you polish," a line that hints at further exploration of the idea of genius and natural ability.

so, much later on in the manga, we meet kita, who outright disagrees with the idea of "genius" and calls that label an insult to the amount of hard work put into producing those talents. through kita, furudate is practically directly telling us, the audience, that oikawa was wrong. people like kageyama, ushijima, and atsumu arent geniuses; and if you believe there's an innate difference between them and you, then you've already lost.

and riseki, whom kita's unloading his speech on, takes that lesson to heart, fully internalizing that "genius" is just a title that mystifies passion and hard work. so despite never being a regular in middle school, depite his serve against karasuno failing to score, despite his previous insecurities about "geniuses," he works earnestly to make his talents bloom, and in his last year of high school he's rewarded with the best server award.

back to oikawa himself, the man who ignited the genius vs hard-worker debate. after rekindling his love for the sport in brazil due to hinata, he vows to win if they ever compete against each other. and they do. they face each other in the olympics: oikawa setting for argentina, against his biggest high school rivals on team japan, and he wins. he wins it all, he takes home olympic gold.

the difference was never innate, never insurmountable like oikawa once believed it was.

one of my favorite lines in haikyuu is relevant here: "today, you've lost. what will you become tomorrow?" in other words, failure is momentary. what comes after is up to you. to essentialize your losses and temporary weaknesses as proof of a "hard-worker vs genius" divide is to give up on yourself.

compare that with how naruto handles the genius vs hard-worker question... LMAO. the story never grows past middle school oikawa's mentality, and it's sad. from the chuunin exams, where rock lee calls himself a hard-worker as opposed to sasuke and neji who are labeled geniuses of natural talent. to the war arc, where hagoromo calls naruto talentless, like asura was, and unlike minato, kushina, sasuke, and indra.

it's just so sad how shallow the thematic development is. the story is framed as underdog hard-worker beats natural genius. except the underdog is actually destined to save the world. and it turns out he has the specialest bloodline and family, while the genius is apparently evil incarnate and his bloodline is "genetically evil." basically, we're looking at a flimsily concealed power fantasy for insecure, resentful self-identified non-geniuses. lmfao how anyone can think this manga is in any way well-written is beyond me. like, go watch haikyuu for actual peak shounen

Because I just feel helpless.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, from my general body pain, especially at the joints, chronic fatigue, and recurring tendinitis. I hate this pain, I hate how distracting it is, I just spend all day in bed.

Whenever I held my hopes up to start university (2023), or take a weekly art class (2024), or start an art tumblr (2022), even fucking reading manga, eventually it all went to shit with a nasty flare. And it's just fibromyalgia! I can't imagine people with degenerative diseases and nastier pain out there, I'm already losing my mind!

Kagami, still traumatized from losing his teacher, taking Sakumo as his student and emphasizing that he never ever leave anyone behind on a mission (bc he feels that’s what they did to Tobirama 😜) and to prioritize his teammates, only for his own friend (you know who) to end his life. Then later on Sakumo teaching that to his son, those same values eventually costing him his life and reputation. And THEN have Kakashi come back to them after an Uchiha reminded him of what really matters 🔄🔄

Comments on Neji's death

It's when we are closer to death that we appreciate life the most. It's our mortality that fuels our desire to do something meaningful with our lives, because if we would have all the time in the world, we would probably procrastinate until eternity. Some authors even write about death as a gift of humanity (like Tolkien). So it's important that some characters die to portray those feelings, that inescapable reality.

But Neji's death is so insipid. I have reasons.

Of course, I'll elaborate on them.

Feel free to disagree, I like to listen to other viewpoints.

Neji's death is offensive. It doesn't even push the plot forward in any way.

If Kishimoto was itching to get rid of Neji, he could've made Neji:

- suicidal

- sacrifice himself for Rock Lee/Tenten

Neji's sacrifice could've made him a martyr of the Branch Family. Look at his tragic history: he was the genius of his generation, denied proper support, orphaned...

He was no longer the angry, insolent, arrogant child from the Chūnin Exams. He was Hinata's best friend. He was Hiashi's protégée. None of that protected him from his fate, or sacrificing himself for the Main Family.

What would the Branch Hyūga think?

No matter what they do, how much they submit, how close they are to the Main Family, they too will perish.

Neji's sins (his strong personality) would be washed away, because now he's the perfect victim: dead. He's a martyr.

REVOLUTION!!

Now, if he sacrificed himself for Rock Lee (most likely, since Kishimoto can't write women) it could paralel Team 7 (Minato's, Kakashi's on Land of Waves Arc) and the Ame trio. It fits Naruto's thing of the cycle of violence.

It pushes Lee and Tenten forward; it's revolutionary because a Branch Family member sacrificed himself not for the Main Family, but for his civilian-born teammates;

It'd be almost tangible proof that yes, he takes his rivalry with Lee seriously; he sees Lee and Tenten as comrades and partners and equals; he sacrificed himself for Lee but would for Tenten too; he treasures them in a way he won't ever see Hinata or Hanabi, because he can't be equals to the Main Family. Not after everything.

It would be even more brilliant if Neji pulled an Obito and gave his eyes, one for Lee and the other to Tenten. It doesn't even matter if they can't ever activate it. Each kid having one eye completely pupilless and white would be a permanent mark for them changing. Neji's residual chakra buzzing in those eyes. That'd be much more fucking tragic.

If Hinata died too?! That'd be Sakumo-chaos levels. I can even see a civil war breaking among the Hyūga: the elders and Hiashi wanting Neji's byakugan burnt, the Branch Family taking Neji as a martyr, the Hyūga Elders opposing to Kakashi taking the Hokage after Tsunade because he'd support Team Guy... CHAOS. CHAOS!! REVOLUTION!!

Could Hinata grow up and take the seat as Clan Head, to imprison the Elders and get rid of the Caged Bird Seal? Would the Elders back (groom) Hanabi instead? Would Hanabi end up like another Itachi? That would add tension in Naruhina – could Hinata leave her clan, Neji's legacy, for a man?! – and be an excuse to have Sasuke back in Konoha, if he starts seeing Itachi on Hanabi.
