Be careful of the double-speak in the Update Post.

Staff has officially posted an update regarding the reblog decoupling, and while they are reversing the change for now, we need to look closely at the language they are using. This is a classic example of corporate "double speak" designed to de-escalate a PR crisis while keeping the door open for the same harmful features later.

The Post: Reblog Update: We’re Reversing the Change

The Red Flag:

"We still believe there's a better version of how reblogs can work. One that gives every voice in a chain the credit it deserves. But we want to get there with you."

The Breakdown: When they say they want to give every voice the credit it deserves, they are still justifying the decoupling of notes. They are framing the destruction of the original creator's attribution as a feature for the rebloggers or the loss of community. Their goal hasn't changed. They just realized their current execution was a technical and social disaster.

They also mention working "directly with some of you." This often means selecting a small, curated group of "power users" who may not prioritize the accessibility or safety needs that we have been fighting for.

Viral Hell & The Power of the Call to Arms

To my friends and followers: my condolences for going viral are accepted. I love you. Let’s look at the numbers. My original post on this has cleared 24,000 notes. This is exactly why a Call to Arms was necessary. When we first saw the decoupling, we saw the immediate theft of credit.

In my case, over 10,000 notes were stolen or hidden by the uncoupling before I even realized the extent of the damage. This isn't just a UI preference. It is the systematic erasing of a creator’s reach and legacy.

Why we cannot stop now:

Staff’s reversal is a tactical retreat, not a surrender. Their language proves they still intend to push for a version of decoupling in the future. We forced their hand because:

The volume of feedback was undeniable. 24k notes on a single advocacy post is a massive indicator of user dissatisfaction.

Emails and Support Tickets work. They specifically cited emails as a reason for the reversal.

Public pressure creates friction. By making this a PR nightmare on Bluesky and X, we made the cost of the update too high for them to maintain.

The Mission Moving Forward:

We have won the first battle, but the Double Speak in their post tells us the war isn't over. They are going to try to rebrand a change like this in a few weeks or months.

Keep the pressure on: Continue to reblog your concerns when they surface.

Stay Vocal: They are betting on us getting tired and going back to business as usual. We need to show them that our safety and our creative credit are non-negotiable. Continue to voice concerns when they surface.

We’ve seen that we can move the needle. Let's make sure they don't try to move it back when they think we aren't looking.

related to my previous post: this is my POV on the eternal "it is/n't that deep" debate always going on with everything, as someone who now just goes "cool okay whatever" and leaves when something disappoints me instead of wasting time raging about what went wrong or waiting around for it to get better. i think it's good to have all those crazy what-if thought experiments, but i also think you need to make sure you're not setting yourself up for heartache! be nice to yourself and be nice to other people (as the moral so often is...)

my theories/speculation about the freak circus regarding:

1. Harlequin’s story

2. Ticket Taker’s tent/ “relocating” people from the pink tent

I put it all under a read more because it got longgggggg

1: I honestly wonder if the troupe lost control when they were starving and ate Columbina in feral desperation, and only came to their senses afterwards. And that Harlequin’s framing of her as both an “angel” and a “sacrifice” is a narrative lens he put on the situation to make it sound more noble, necessary, and purposeful in retrospect because they’re ashamed of what they did to her. And that the troupe is ashamed of being forced to behave like animals due to the cruelty of the man who was starving them, essentially proving him “right” about the troupe being monsters.

Maybe they never even needed to consume Columbina to attain humanoid forms and the truth is just too much to handle psychologically (though, I doubt this because Neko has suggested in some answers that consuming flesh does have some kind of physiological effect on the troupe, so this is just a baseless guess).

2: I wonder if Ticket Taker’s or Jester’s acts are based on hypnosis. We already know the circus uses some kind of drug to make people pliant and suggestible. And that people can be “relocated” out of the pink tent (if someone can find the post that mentioned this, I would appreciate it because I couldn’t find it again myself).

If Ticket Taker or Jester can hypnotize humans into forgetting things/doing simple tasks, that would explain a lot about how the circus can operate in such secrecy. I feel like otherwise, how do they keep their operations so secret if they’re kidnapping/eating/sleeping with various humans wherever they travel to. I feel like it would be an obvious link back to them if everyone who had a pink ticket had some kind of bizarre experience or just vanished after visiting the circus.

It’s possible that the drug makes humans forget what happened when they were under the influence, but then what about the food stall sellers and especially the man who gave MC the pink ticket in the cafe? The food stall people could just be hired help. But it would make sense if the man in the cafe had been hypnotized into giving out pink tickets and then forgetting about it afterwards to deflect suspicion from the circus.

It sounds so silly when I type it out, but I feel that the drug combined with hypnotic suggestions could be a really powerful tool.

icarian task: when you have a task you know you’re going to fail at anyways, so why not have some fun with it before it all comes crashing down

cassandrean task: when you have to deal with people you KNOW won’t listen to you, despite having accurate information, and having to watch them fumble about when you told them the solution from the start (most often witnessed in customer service)
