Alan Turing wasn’t just hounded for being gay, he was prosecuted in the UK for his sexuality and chose a probation and chemical castration in lieu of jail time. These treatments not only rendered him impotent, but the hormone treatments also led to significant body changes. In the wake of his conviction, he also lost his security clearance and, therefore, government position (in similar ways to US-era McCarthyism persecuted Americans). He died two years after his trial, from an apparent suicide.

In addition to his work during WWII, and his many other immense achievements, he’s also considered the father of the Artificial Intelligence, developing the Turing Test for evaluating whether or not a computer has developed legitimate artificial intelligence (the plot basis of the recent Ex Machina film).
