THE LAST OF US Season 2, Episode 6: The Price
Trope I will never get tired of: A calling B by their actual name (instead of their usual nicknames) and it immediately alerting B that something is Very Wrong
Every so often I think “learning new things is hard. How can I get good at this skill/know this knowledge/perform this art when the gap between where I am and where I want to be is so large?” And then I realize. I do that all the time with no fear at all, no worry about inadequacy or failure. Because what is entering a new fandom if not learning something I did not know before? What is entering a new fandom if not gathering new knowledge, committing more lore to memory, gathering new names and faces???
Not to get too deep about fandom, but what is it if not the one form of learning where we don’t fear inadequacy, and instead know we will be accepted regardless of our achievements?
The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.
Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.
So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.
Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.
oh shit
As the OP of this post, I’m going to threaten that if this gets to one million notes by the 10 year anniversary on 1 June 2026, one year from today, I will get a lower back tattoo of the loch ness bear monster.
Y'all know what to do Tumblr.
It looks like they’re dropping a teaser trailer for the new Harry Potter reboot tomorrow
Just a few important and gentle reminders:
🫶🏻 DO NOT WATCH THIS FUCKING SHOW 🫶🏻
If you claim you support human rights - not just trans rights but human rights in general - yet still plan to watch this show, unfollow me. You’re a fucking hypocrite and I don’t want you following me.
Do not watch it even if you’re hate watching it, it still contributes to streaming revenue and views!
The adults in this reboot of the franchise are FULLY accountable for choosing to do this show and accepting a pay cheque over supporting a minority group. Even if they claim they support trans rights, they’re cowards and don’t actually support them at all.
The kids do NOT deserve abuse or hate, whether it’s because you’re comparing them to Dan/Rupert/Emma or because you’re boycotting due to the author’s views. They are literal CHILDREN.
Your nostalgia over a children’s series about kids going to school is NOT more important than trans people being respected and having rights. As long as JKR is still alive, she profits off of this.
Okay, so according to this post, @staff says they're listening to us, so...
Sound off, Tumblr! How do you feel about the latest update to the reblog and notes?
Hate it. 👎
Like it. 👍
No nuance. Go ahead and reblog the crap out of this.
we must acknowledge that destiel is still #1 even though it came in #9 because all those ships will come and go. but do you know what has always been in the top 10 and always will be until the day we die? that's right. destiel.
we need to bring back old school tumblr communication and im so serious. sending an ask to a mutual just to say hello. seeing three different asks in your inbox all asking how your dentist appointment went. seeing a post you think one of your mutuals would enjoy and tagging them/sending it to them in the dms. nowadays its just silently liking a post or (if youre feeling extreme) replying under posts. WHAT HAPPENED TO US!! we used to be a proper community!!!! #LetsBringWhimsyBack
reblog if you want ppl to send you random lil' asks
honestly yall just gotta be comfortable reading books that make you feel stupid
Okay this might be slightly-off topic but I feel it relates enough to put here: you also need to be comfortable with letting other people read books that might make them feel stupid.
You’re never going to grow as a reader if you don’t encounter books that are challenging or frustrating.
My mom works as a librarian at an elementary school. Recently, she had a problem with this teacher who won’t let kids read above their grade level.
Today, she had a boy come into the library with said teacher. This boy has a low reading level, something that both my mom and his teacher know.
The kid picks out books that he wants to read—keeping in compliance with his teacher’s rule that he must choose one fiction and one non-fiction—and brings them to my mom, ready to check them out. His teacher intercepts him and, in an extremely loud and dismissive voice, says, “That’s above your reading level. You won’t be able to read or understand that.”
Now, they’re not the only ones in the library. The boy’s entire class is there, his teacher, and my mom. So, as the teacher continues to loudly deprecate him in the SILENT LIBRARY, his entire class can hear.
My mom, attempting to run damage control, tries to intervene and help the kid pick out new books—but she’s the only librarian, and other kids need help checking stuff out. So instead she’s forced to watch from across the room as the kid, under his teacher’s unkind eye, goes to the corner of the room where the books with low reading levels are kept at. It is an extremely small section, shoved in the corner, and on the ground. My mother, who has only recently gotten this job, hadn’t had time to move it yet (she did immediately after this interaction). So, in all honesty, the kid is being publicly humiliated here—he’s pretty tall and being forced to kneel in the corner in order to very obviously grab the low-level books, his entire class is there as his teacher is yelling at him, and my mom can’t do shit because she’s the only one there, she’s new, and she has no real authority over the kids, only the books.
Now, this interaction ended with my mom asking the teacher, as the class was leaving, “what would help him find books he likes better?” Her way of trying to mediate, point out that other books would be beneficial. The teacher, however, just responds with, “well, he’s my only Special Ed kid.”
Genuinely, what the fuck.
1. That kid is never going to become a better reader if you belittle him, publicly humiliate him, and force him to believe that the only thing he is CAPABLE OF READING is something low-level.
2. This will not foster a love for reading in this child. If he does not ENJOY reading, and if he learns to associate it only with your dismissive nature and cruel words, then he is going to grow up to HATE it.
3. Insinuating that a Special Ed kid is incapable of gaining a love for and proficiency at reading simply because he is Special Ed is quite literally one of the cruelest things I’ve heard in a long time.
4. Fuck this teacher, fuck all other teachers like her, and I hope they all quit their jobs before they ruin a kid’s life with their thoughtless actions and dismissive natures. If you don’t love kids, then why are you even here in the first place?
5. That kid wanted to challenge himself, and you took that choice away from him. When he doesn’t grow as a reader, that will be YOUR fault because you told him that he couldn’t and he will believe you, because you’re his teacher and he trusts you. So fuck you once again.
How it feels in some fandoms
Every so often I’m having a good day and then I remember that Joel died thinking Ellie was next and that good day goes flying out the window
okay bear with me here but
Dean Winchester and Ellie Williams would be absolute best friends
we should've had ellie teasing joel about his accent at least once. she grew up in an orphanage where every kid sounded mostly the same you can't convince me she doesn't learn that joel was texan and start teasing him about cowboy hats and how he doesn't say "yee-haw" enough
Happy new year’s. My resolutions are to hide from the stranger things fandom *distant screaming can be heard* things aren’t going well over there *screaming intensifies* someone should help them. where are the destiel vets dear god
I’m so used to OOC writing (in fanon AND canon) that when a character does something wrong and it feels like something they would ACTUALLY DO, I’m not even mad anymore. You do you, buddy, as long as you still act like buddy
