- Mulcair pulls out of UPFORDEBATE debate on women’s issues in Canada. Says there is “no point” because Harper is not attending. This leads to the cancellation of the entire debate and Muclair agreeing to sit through one-on-one interview with the organization. Harper is not attending these interviews.

Lala Lundi: Cold Specks-tacular

You may be familiar with Cold Specks’s 2012 debut—I Predict a Graceful Expulsion—which featured her voice as the main attraction, a sound some folks have described as “doom rock”.  For those unfamiliar with Cold Specks we can only attempt to describe “doom rock”; a melodic call, sounding the alarm, reassessing consciousness because “even the dead can be astoundingly alive”.

If you haven’t checked them out yet, the resonant “Holland” and “Blank Maps” are required listening.

With her sophomore effort, Neuroplasicity, the graceful minimalism of her debut record is infused with a much fuller sound,  by adding drums, beats, and riffs.

Today Lala Lundi presents “Bodies at Bay” – a thrilling love song off of the new record which will shake your consciousness to uncover new depths.

OIL WATCH: CNRL SPILLS 60, 000 litres of crude oil into the muskeg. This is approximately 400 oil barrels/drums. What is a muskeg? It is essentially a bog. Wet, acidic soil type. There are apparently "no reports of impact on wildlife"... which is code for "we looked out our window and didn't see any birds stuck in our black pit of death, so we're good". Hello dear internet dwellers,

Colonial Beaver Shit, the blog you are currently reading, has decided to venture out, to take a walk on the WILD side of blogs, and to focus on CULTURE through art, protests, poetry, literature, street art, etc etc. Continuing in this vein of RADICAL examination, CBS has decided to launch a weekly feature highlighting canadian music! We promise to provoke, to inspire, to question, to be critical, and to be excited about all of the music we will bring forward in the future.

To start of the project, we bring to you Yamantaka // Sonic Titan –a psychedelic noh-wave opera group fusing noise, metal, pop and folk music into a multidisciplinary hyper-orientalist cesspool of ‘east’ meets ‘west’ culture clash in giant monochrome paper sets—and their song “One”, off of their new release, UZU.

Yamantaka // Sonic Titan’s song “One” is befitting the commencement of our musical adventure because, well, isn’t it nice to start at one?

September 21st 2014: “Hey Hey, Ho Ho: Stephen Harper Has Got to GTFO”

Edmonton’s Climate March in solidarity with the NYC (and global) activism in light of the UN climate talks in New York City on tuesday.

I would say over 200 people came out today. As an activist Edmonton seems to be the feisty, quiet type. Lots of cheeky signs, and loud clapping/chatter at the mention of “DOWN WITH THE TAR SANDS”. The activist this rally brought were largely middle aged folks, families, Indigenous folk, with a surprisingly minute student turn out.

Highlight: Elder doing opening regards/prayers gets the entire predominately white/settler crowd to chant (loudly) “IDLE NO MORE” & “NO MORE GENOCIDE” #yegwin.
