Recap from Aug 17-26th: BLUE Â Conservative MP from MTL was found with MRA-like posts on his facebook page. Removed his account and made an apology but did not resign. http://www.cbc.ca/m/touch/canada/montreal/story/1.3203206
ORANGE
- Mulcair pulls out of UPFORDEBATE debate on womenâs issues in Canada. Says there is âno pointâ because Harper is not attending. This leads to the cancellation of the entire debate and Muclair agreeing to sit through one-on-one interview with the organization. Harper is not attending these interviews.Â

May now officially off the federal debate roster for the rest of election season. Still campaigning hard with talks of a federal commercial coming soon. Also some smear of the party platform being âanti-feministâ.

I almost thanked you for teaching me something about survival back there, but then I remembered that the ocean never handed me the gift of swimming. I gave it to myself.

Lala Lundi: Cold Specks-tacular
You may be familiar with Cold Specksâs 2012 debutâI Predict a Graceful Expulsionâwhich featured her voice as the main attraction, a sound some folks have described as âdoom rockâ. Â For those unfamiliar with Cold Specks we can only attempt to describe âdoom rockâ; a melodic call, sounding the alarm, reassessing consciousness because âeven the dead can be astoundingly aliveâ.
If you havenât checked them out yet, the resonant âHollandâ and âBlank Mapsâ are required listening.
With her sophomore effort, Neuroplasicity, the graceful minimalism of her debut record is infused with a much fuller sound, Â by adding drums, beats, and riffs.
Today Lala Lundi presents âBodies at Bayâ â a thrilling love song off of the new record which will shake your consciousness to uncover new depths.Â
"Keep the bodies at bay, guard the house."Â
Enjoy.
Until next time,

OIL WATCH: CNRL SPILLS 60, 000 litres of crude oil into the muskeg. This is approximately 400 oil barrels/drums. What is a muskeg? It is essentially a bog. Wet, acidic soil type. There are apparently "no reports of impact on wildlife"... which is code for "we looked out our window and didn't see any birds stuck in our black pit of death, so we're good". Considering the soil type, all that lives and thrives in the deep, marshy environment will now be perpetually soaking and suffocating in crude oil. #FUCKCNRL http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/alberta-energy-regulator-says-pipeline-spills-60-000-litres-of-crude-into-muskeg-1.2855077
la la lundi: decolonize your music
Hello dear internet dwellers,
Colonial Beaver Shit, the blog you are currently reading, has decided to venture out, to take a walk on the WILD side of blogs, and to focus on CULTURE through art, protests, poetry, literature, street art, etc etc. Continuing in this vein of RADICAL examination, CBS has decided to launch a weekly feature highlighting canadian music! We promise to provoke, to inspire, to question, to be critical, and to be excited about all of the music we will bring forward in the future.
To start of the project, we bring to you Yamantaka // Sonic Titan âa psychedelic noh-wave opera group fusing noise, metal, pop and folk music into a multidisciplinary hyper-orientalist cesspool of âeastâ meets âwestâ culture clash in giant monochrome paper setsâand their song âOneâ, off of their new release, UZU.
Yamantaka // Sonic Titanâs song âOneâ is befitting the commencement of our musical adventure because, well, isnât it nice to start at one?
Come back for more Canadian gems, chaque lala lundi. With fire, CBS
colonial BS takes on canadian/turtle island music and here is our first prescription of what you SHOULD be listening to.... (ps. it's YAMANTAKA//SONIC TITAN... duh)

"Western governments have been able to shape and manipulate their citizenries in the name of terrorism...it's the kind of authoritarian dynamic where if you scare the population enough, they will almost demand that the government acquire more power..."

How will Canada ever accept that its current-day treatment of First Nations peoples is based on a criminal past if it can barely grasp that itâs mired in a criminal present?

"We donât need any more new and shiny schools to show us what we already know. Weâthe peopleâneed space to breathe and to grow outside of the market economy. We demand it. Iâm demanding it."

September 29th, 2014: "FIPA officially comes into effect on October 1, and will have a significant effect on the future development of the oil sands â and by association, climate, economic, and energy policies. Not only does the agreement lock Canada into a deal with China for the next 31 years, but it also allows Chinese investors to seek redress against laws passed by Canadian governments (federal, provincial, or municipal) that threaten their profits." http://www.vancouverobserver.com/news/china-canada-fipa-casts-shadow-over-future-climate
September 21st 2014: âHey Hey, Ho Ho: Stephen Harper Has Got to GTFOâ
Edmontonâs Climate March in solidarity with the NYC (and global) activism in light of the UN climate talks in New York City on tuesday.
I would say over 200 people came out today. As an activist Edmonton seems to be the feisty, quiet type. Lots of cheeky signs, and loud clapping/chatter at the mention of âDOWN WITH THE TAR SANDSâ. The activist this rally brought were largely middle aged folks, families, Indigenous folk, with a surprisingly minute student turn out.
Highlight: Elder doing opening regards/prayers gets the entire predominately white/settler crowd to chant (loudly) âIDLE NO MOREâ & âNO MORE GENOCIDEâ #yegwin.
disclaimer: All photos were taken with permission from subjects, as well as parental permission from underaged folks.
