Colorguard at Bands of America Grand Nationals 2013
Beatrix 2011 “Anne Frank”
This might be the best show I’ve ever watched.
Goddamnit pandas.
“Okay your job is to keep the pandas in their pen.”
“And I get paid to do this.”
“Yes.”
“Splendid.”
First Flight 2013 — "Within the Chaos"
Undoubtedly my favorite show of the year
Tip 12:
If you mess up whilst performing. Don’t sweat it! You actually get points for how quick you recover, just get right back in and still perform as if nothing happened.
I PHYSICALLY CAN’T NOT REBLOG THIS WHEN IT COMES UP ON MY DASH
IT’S TOO COOL
It’s called Winterguard. It’s a sport. Those girls are marching band color-guard girls during the summer touring season, and during the winter they compete against other color-guard teams to music. Costumes, props, mats, everything has to be carried onto the gym floor and then taken back away and counts as part of your performance time.
So when Family Guy or other popular media makes fun of color-guard girls, it pisses me off. We are not rejected cheerleaders. We are what you see above. We kick ass. We spin rifles and flags and sabers.
Tip 11: Always perform up. Now this doesn't just mean looking up, this means not going into auto-pilot mode and keeping your shoulders square to the front.
Tip 10:
Don’t ever. EVER spin when a superior is talking to you or the guard in general. Especially the band director!
Tip 9:
When anyone (especially band peeps) are anywhere close to you, make sure to stay in your planes and be extra conscious of them!
Tip 8:
Always always always ALWAYS count out loud. Not only will counting out loud help you count in unison with everyone else and help you stay on time, it will also help other people who are lost
Tip 7:
Don’t take criticism too harshly. Everyone’s just trying to help and make sure you don’t hit yourself or anyone else!
Tip 6:
When doing tosses, or anything really, don’t be scared of the flag. You can throw the flag and run away a couple of times to feel how the toss should be. But after that you can’t be scared of getting hit. If it makes you feel better, put on your imaginary helmet!
Tip 5:
Always listen to leadership, even if they aren’t in color guard. They are just trying to help.
Tip 4:
One more time NEVER means one more time
Tip 3:
Dropspins. When doing drop spins I used to always roll up my flag and all people would tell me didn’t make much sense. So, if you roll up your flag when doing drop spins make sure to not move your elbows and if you see your flag rolling up, unroll your flag whilst still doing drop spins. Try to roll the other way. Also! Put your thumb in the silk. That’s what helped me and hopefully it’ll help you too!
Tip 2:
Point your toe! Are you pointing your toe? Did you point your toe? Point your toe. POINT YOUR TOE! I dont care what you’re doing. Anything and everything besides walking needs a pointed toe. Have you seen a flexed foot? See how ugly it is?? Exactly. Point your toe.
Tip #1:
Learn to love everyone on your guard. You’ll be spending a lot of your time with them. So it’d be best to enjoy that time!
